I had some of the side effects listed under dangerous side effects and had to stop taking it. So I reminded my doctor of that and he put me on Hydrochlorothiazide. I took this for one day and was extremely sick the whole day. I started with some dizziness, and headache, then went to cramps which turned into very bad cramps. I wasn't too concerned at first because I read that as your body adjusts to it you can get a bit dizzy, and headache, and stomach upset.

Furosemide 40 mg and spironolactone 25 mg. Should I take both at once or take both the same day at different times or discontinue one? Did anyone can share your experience?
My grandmother takes water pills and she gave me something stronger. Furosemide. So far this is the best thing to have work. Not 100% as i still fluctuate back and forth in weight because of water. But it is giving me some relief. But down side is it's depleting my body of potassium and causing some wicked charlie horses.
I don't know what to do. Doctor says nothing is wrong but obviously there is.

Recently I have a feeling that the Hydrochlorothiazide is not working as it used to be.
Will HCTZ lose its effectiveness after a certain number of years?

My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic.
I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?
We have been advised by the doctor to give my mom 20mg furosemide through iv for 3 days because of edema, today was her last day and her bp was 130/50, the doctor told us that her bp should not be lower than 90/60, but we still gave her medcation since her normal should be around 110/60, was it a good idea or a bad one that we administered her furosemide with bp reading of 130/50?
how do you work out the the right does of furosemide. he is on 10mg a day and he is 10 lbs. what is dangerous high level or low level.

I will be transitioning to propanolol 20 mg (and hydrochlorothiazide) twice daily soon - my doctor wants me to transition by taking propanolol - 1/2 of 20 mg twice a day for one week and then the full 20 mg twice daily. Why? Won't that cause rebound hypertension?

For at least 3 years I have been taking a 25mg Losartan potassium tablet and a 40mg Furosemide tablet every morning. I went to a new chemist this morning and he said I should never take the 2 tablets together as they will cause low blood pressure. I went to the doctors last year for a check up and complained of low blood pressure ( I took a list of my last 20 readings) but was told it is nothing to worry about!.
There is no cross-reactivity between Ethacrynic acid and Lasix (Furosemide). These drugs are both in the same family of medications known as Loop Diuretics and are more commonly known as a “water pill” because they cause an increase in the excretion of urine and electrolytes. There are different types of allergic reactions to medications known as hypersensitivities and symptoms can range from a skin rash to swelling and inflammation of the throat causing difficulty breathing and even death.
My old Akita (going on 16) had a cough for about 2 mos that my vet originally through was kennel cough. . However, since it didn't disappear, he put him on 20 mg of Furosemide 3 days ago and the cough has since stopped. I understand Furosemide is a powerful diuretic so I'm wondering if this will harm him in the long run even though his condition has improved.

The usual starting doses of diuretics are 100 mg of spironolactone and 40 mg furosemide. Doses can be changed up to a maximum of 400 mg of spironolactone and 160 mg of furosemide. A ratio of 100:40.

I have been sick and my doctor ordered me to take a regiment of medication being prednisone, doxycycline and furosemide. I have been on the prednisone for 2 weeks now and he has ordered me to take 5 mg every 8 hours (he gave me 80 pills)

This is a follow up to my April 23 posting concerning my severe sweating.
Since my doc does not think my problem is thyroid based, I decided to try a different approach. On May 12, I stopped taking HCTZ. I had read that some had had problems with HCTZ and sweating. Gradually, I seemed to have less sweating. Also, the feeling of being hot most of the time seemed to lessen. It is summer, and I do get hot, but others are hot, also. When I do sweat, it seems like a more normal sweat.
Beginning dosages are 100 mg of spironolactone and 40 mg of furosemide by mouth daily. If weight loss and natriuresis are inadequate, both drugs can be simultaneously increased after 3 to 5 days to 200 mg of spironolactone and 80 mg of furosemide. To maintain normal electrolyte balance, the use of the 100 : 40 mg ratio of spironolactone to furosemide is generally recommended. Maximum accepted dosages are 400 and 160 mg/day of spironolactone and furosemide, respectively.

I was having the numbness and tingling while taking hydrochlorothiazide. I would stop taking it and the numbness/tingle would go away, take it again, and it would come right back. Not sure if he is taking hydrochlorothiazide. They had me on it for edema. I have swelling in my hands and ankles, all tests neg except for CMV. Battling this since April 2008. Hands so swollen, can't open bottles, hold a pen, hold a phone or peel the label off the top of yogurts..ect..
However, this could also be due to some medications such as the combination of lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide that is used to treat high blood pressure. Lisinopril is in a group of drugs called angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) while Hydrochlorothiazide is in a class of diuretics. Tingling in the hands and feet along with dizziness, headache and cough are some of the effects that are observed in this drug combination.
