Common Questions and Answers about Hydrochlorothiazide and exercise

Avatar f tn I will be transitioning to propanolol 20 mg (and hydrochlorothiazide) twice daily soon - my doctor wants me to transition by taking propanolol - 1/2 of 20 mg twice a day for one week and then the full 20 mg twice daily. Why? Won't that cause rebound hypertension? Thanks.
Avatar n tn So, i think we just have to take it slow and not push ourselves too hard on the exercise. The muscle is sensitive and healing and will react when made to work harder than it feels able. I keep depression away by knowing that in a year it will be better if i am kind to my body. I have hashimotos and for the last year have been on thyroid meds. Well, it took about a year for my body to start looking better. So i just realize that change doesn't happen instantaneously.
Avatar m tn Your blood pressure is elevated at rest, and it may worsen with exertion. You should visit your primary physician and if your blood pressure is elevated then medical therapy should be started (since it sounds as if you already have implemented appropriate lifestyle modifications). I would recommend hydrochlorothiazide as a first line agent.
Avatar m tn My medication is Diovan 160mg and 12.5 mg valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide. And yes this was a typo should read 121/71 This whole thing drive me crazy---- blood pressure keeps going down as I further into the squash game --- then I get dizzy.......
Avatar f tn My PDR states that 3 of the medications I take can cause elevated blood sugars.
Avatar f tn t have to work hard at all to maintain a heart rate of about 136 or so and I may start to puff a little at 142 or so. If I am to follow the charts for exercise zones, and to not exceed my maximum heart rate, I am working in the anaerobic (hardcore training) range. I want to work in the weight control to the aerobic/cardio training range but I am barely working to keep my heart rate in the appropriate range. I sweat quite a bit but I don't puff much.
Avatar n tn I stopped the hydrochlorothiazide and am stopping the Atenolol by reducing the dose by 1/2 for 7 days to 12-1/2 mg, then reducing to 6-1/4 mg for another 7 days, then stopping it altogether. I plan on using the elliptical to exercise on, which has lowered my blood pressure in the past; but now I don't know what effects Atenolol has had on my heart long term. Do not trust Doctors or Medication that can screw you up for the rest of your life!!
Avatar f tn I went back to see him a few days later and my BP was lower. So I am going to try the dieting, and exercise, and I have another appointment with him for another follow up. If my BP goes back up again, I will most likely have to be put on a BP medication. Last I had it checked it was 140/86 so it should still be lower than that. If it doesn't lower, than the medication is probably what I will need. Thank you for writing to me and giving me that information. I appreciate it.
Avatar m tn It is essentially the same as Hyzaar which contains a combination of hydrochlorothiazide and losartan. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention. Losartan is also in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Losartan keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow which is exactly how Diovan works.
Avatar m tn My concern is the minimal and maximum size of the ascending aorta and what I should be mindful of in regards to execise and activities.
1398693 tn?1343684738 Thank you so much for the information I knew that there are medications that didn't deplete potassium but I couldn't find which ones. right now I'm taking hydrochlorothiazide and Lisinopril and when I started to take the hydrochlorothiazide I kept ending up in the hospital because my potassium level kept dropping mainly because I have had some problems with diarrhea so no matter how much potassium rich foods I hate I couldn't keep my potassium level any higher than 3.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide (HTCZ) for high blood pressure since May 2007. Recently I have a feeling that the Hydrochlorothiazide is not working as it used to be. Will HCTZ lose its effectiveness after a certain number of years? Anyone know the answer or having similar experience, please let me know. Thank You In Advance For Your Reply.
Avatar n tn My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic. I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?
Avatar m tn I AM TAKING HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE 25MG. I HAVE BEEN TAKEN THEM FOR 3 YRS NOW. THIS MEDICATION JUST STOP WORKING. MY DOCTOR WANTS TO ADD ANOTHER MEDICATION FOR ME TO TAKE. DOES THIS EVER GET BETTER. STAYS THE SAME OR DO THE MEDICATION YOU ARE TAKE ALWAYS GET ADJUSTED. UNTIL YOU ARE TAKEN 10 DIFFERENT MEDICATION. 5799582 tn?1374501603 My symptoms prior to the above exams a were periodic palpitations (which started at the age of 20) and slightly elevated BP 145/90 w/ 25ml Hydro. (elevated BP and hydrochlorothiazide use started in my 40s). No one had ever diagnosed me with AI prior to October 2012 despite regular doctor visits every 6 to 8 months. In November of 2012, I started a daily exercise routine which simulates 6 rounds of boxing for 30 - 35 minutes every morning except for Fridays (rest day).
1355431 tn?1369975306 Im really worried about my husband he is 35 years old and he is on 4 different blood pressure meds. He is on Lisinopril 10mg , Atenolol 50mg, Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg and Amlodipine 10 mg. Even with all theese meds his blood pressure is still way to high! It seems every doctor visit they add more meds. Ok I guess my question is, is it nessasary to be on 4 different blood pressure meds and is it safe? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn This is a follow up to my April 23 posting concerning my severe sweating. Since my doc does not think my problem is thyroid based, I decided to try a different approach. On May 12, I stopped taking HCTZ. I had read that some had had problems with HCTZ and sweating. Gradually, I seemed to have less sweating. Also, the feeling of being hot most of the time seemed to lessen. It is summer, and I do get hot, but others are hot, also. When I do sweat, it seems like a more normal sweat.
Avatar n tn As Per pubmed The effects of diltiazem hydrochloride, a vasodilator often used to treat hypertension, and beta-blockers (pindolol and propranolol hydrochloride) on lipid metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism were assessed by measuring serum levels of total cholesterol, high-density-lipoproteins (HDL)-cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose in patients taking these drugs for three months.
Avatar m tn Hello, I was having the numbness and tingling while taking hydrochlorothiazide. I would stop taking it and the numbness/tingle would go away, take it again, and it would come right back. Not sure if he is taking hydrochlorothiazide. They had me on it for edema. I have swelling in my hands and ankles, all tests neg except for CMV. Battling this since April 2008. Hands so swollen, can't open bottles, hold a pen, hold a phone or peel the label off the top of yogurts..ect..
Avatar n tn However, this could also be due to some medications such as the combination of lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide that is used to treat high blood pressure. Lisinopril is in a group of drugs called angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) while Hydrochlorothiazide is in a class of diuretics. Tingling in the hands and feet along with dizziness, headache and cough are some of the effects that are observed in this drug combination.
1668318 tn?1306416764 Hi weighing yourself and getting on a diuretic is not testing you. Did she run tests? Do you know??
Avatar f tn Looking for good new...found out I am pregnant and am taking Lisinopril 10mg. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Avatar f tn I was placed on potassium citrate and hydrochlorothiazide but the medicines have horrific side effects. Also, has anyone experienced elevated blood glucose levels and elevated LFT's after taking these medications?
Avatar f tn I tried benicar and lisinopril and caused sinus drainage - however, they worked Then tried hydrochlorothiazide which cause major constipation .... Now on amlopidine beselate and coreq cr and have fatigue....seems the latter meds are overkill as I had only one coronary stent over 10 hrs ago and cardiologist a few weeks ago said my heart is fine.
Avatar f tn Diagnosed recently with high blood pressure. New med Hydrochlorothiazide for 2 weeks. Now my upper gum & roof of mouth are red, swollen, and painful. This is not a listed side affect. What's wrong?
1243333 tn?1296446902 High blood pressure is not good for the heart and can lead to decreased function and an increase in angina. Your blood pressure should really be less than 140/90 and if you have diabetes or chronic kidney disease it should be less than 130/80. If you aren't on the maximal dose of Norvasc which is 10mg and the highest dose of Valturna then your physicians should probably start another bp agent such as Hydrochlorothiazide or increase the cattapress patch. Why are you on spironolactone?
