The effects of diltiazem hydrochloride, a vasodilator often used to treat hypertension, and beta-blockers (pindolol and propranolol hydrochloride) on lipid metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism were assessed by measuring serum levels of total cholesterol, high-density-lipoproteins (HDL)-cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose in patients taking these drugs for three months.
I take cholesterol medication and need to have blood work done every six months to check for proper liver function. My cholesterol (and liver) are doing great and kidney function came out fine too when my last tests were done on 12/05/2013. She also did a urinalysis in Jun 2013 which came out fine. The only thing I saw (doctor did not think it was a problem) was my blood calcium had crept up from 9.7 in December of 2012 to 9.9 in December of 2013.
You could also try various calcium channel blockers such as Amlodipine (norvasc). Make sure to quit smoking and take care of your cholesterol. Start with a heathy diet and exercise and if that doesn't work start taking a statin.
I am a 50 yr old female, obese, high blood pressure, otherwise generally healthy. For most of my life I have had high pulse rate, resting or not. I have not always been overweight but have had high blood pressure since my early 20's. I was in emerg in my 20's with tachycardia (125+ bpm) while stressed. My resting pulse rate is around 80 and over. It's not hard to find my pulse at 118 while shopping.
My blood pressure was taken every 10 minutes throughout the night and became as high as 187/130. After finding no other abnormalities, I was sent home and given a presciption for hydrochlorothiazide, a water pill.
It is essentially the same as Hyzaar which contains a combination of hydrochlorothiazide and losartan. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention. Losartan is also in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Losartan keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow which is exactly how Diovan works.
I have been taking Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide (HTCZ) for high blood pressure since May 2007.
Recently I have a feeling that the Hydrochlorothiazide is not working as it used to be.
Will HCTZ lose its effectiveness after a certain number of years?
Anyone know the answer or having similar experience, please let me know.

My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic.
I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?
I AM TAKING HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE 25MG. I HAVE BEEN TAKEN THEM FOR 3 YRS NOW. THIS MEDICATION JUST STOP WORKING. MY DOCTOR WANTS TO ADD ANOTHER MEDICATION FOR ME TO TAKE. DOES THIS EVER GET BETTER. STAYS THE SAME OR DO THE MEDICATION YOU ARE TAKE ALWAYS GET ADJUSTED. UNTIL YOU ARE TAKEN 10 DIFFERENT MEDICATION.

I will be transitioning to propanolol 20 mg (and hydrochlorothiazide) twice daily soon - my doctor wants me to transition by taking propanolol - 1/2 of 20 mg twice a day for one week and then the full 20 mg twice daily. Why? Won't that cause rebound hypertension?

where my BP is 124-138/92 . When I get this attack my feet and hands feel cold, my heart rate increases, and I feel a little bit light headed. this happens maybe 1-2 days in a week or 2. My doctor gave me 12.5 hydrochlorothiazide. This does not help. It does lower by blood pressure further down (106/65) on most days but I still get this "attack" occasionally. 2 years ago I did stress test and the result was good. How long the result is valid?
d me Valsartan with hydrochlorothiazide and my body returned to homeostasis. I was lost and had no clue what was wrong with me. I never considered it might be a menopause symptom. I just thought I had schizophrenic HBP.
I might suggest that you keep a blood pressure diary. My doc loved me for keeping one. Document your blood pressure numbers at least three times a day for a couple of weeks. It MIGHT help your doc figure out YOUR specific issue.
This is a follow up to my April 23 posting concerning my severe sweating.
Since my doc does not think my problem is thyroid based, I decided to try a different approach. On May 12, I stopped taking HCTZ. I had read that some had had problems with HCTZ and sweating. Gradually, I seemed to have less sweating. Also, the feeling of being hot most of the time seemed to lessen. It is summer, and I do get hot, but others are hot, also. When I do sweat, it seems like a more normal sweat.

I was having the numbness and tingling while taking hydrochlorothiazide. I would stop taking it and the numbness/tingle would go away, take it again, and it would come right back. Not sure if he is taking hydrochlorothiazide. They had me on it for edema. I have swelling in my hands and ankles, all tests neg except for CMV. Battling this since April 2008. Hands so swollen, can't open bottles, hold a pen, hold a phone or peel the label off the top of yogurts..ect..
However, this could also be due to some medications such as the combination of lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide that is used to treat high blood pressure. Lisinopril is in a group of drugs called angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) while Hydrochlorothiazide is in a class of diuretics. Tingling in the hands and feet along with dizziness, headache and cough are some of the effects that are observed in this drug combination.
Looking for good new...found out I am pregnant and am taking Lisinopril 10mg. Does anyone have any experience with this?
They did all kinds of test on me and never figured out the cause of the hives and angiodema, and then one day it left. During all the testing they found an Adrenal tumor and said it was fine, so nothing was done with the tumor. I was sent to a specialist during this time because I grew a small hump on the back of my neck to be tested for crushing’s, which I tested negative for.
I was placed on potassium citrate and hydrochlorothiazide but the medicines have horrific side effects. Also, has anyone experienced elevated blood glucose levels and elevated LFT's after taking these medications?
I tried benicar and lisinopril and caused sinus drainage - however, they worked Then tried hydrochlorothiazide which cause major constipation .... Now on amlopidine beselate and coreq cr and have fatigue....seems the latter meds are overkill as I had only one coronary stent over 10 hrs ago and cardiologist a few weeks ago said my heart is fine.
Diagnosed recently with high blood pressure. New med Hydrochlorothiazide for 2 weeks. Now my upper gum & roof of mouth are red, swollen, and painful. This is not a listed side affect. What's wrong?
