My whole body starts swelling up after weeks of Humulin N shots starting from the feet and legs. I am very sure this is the cause because the swelling subsides and my body will return to normal if I stop my injections. Please help.

If it is just running out refill the prescription early 2 days. If you have Humilin R on hand I question how old it is. If more than 30 days it is probably expired anyway. I also question having this Insulin as it has been largely discontinued for use as better insulins are now available.
But the short answer is Novolog and Humlin R do not act in the same manner so substiuting can be very tricky and is probably not recommended.
Zoe - I think Windchimes meant humulin insulin not huminsulin. Humulin is considered an intermediate acting insulin as its duration is 24 hours, but this can vary per individual. LANTUS, on the other hand, is considered long lasting as its duration is up to 36 hours.

You're a good friend to be concerned about your friends well being. If "N" is Humulin N, there is no "standard" Humulin N dose that will work for all people or even for the same person in all situations. This applies to other insulin types too. If your friends at home test results show low glucose levels "several times per week" it is time to have his/her insulin dosages re-evaluated by their physician.
However, the R still blurry and i feel tired on front of my laptop. So i went to another clinic the device report was R (S=0, C=-0.25, A= 73), L (S=0, C=0, A= empty) , VD: 12, CYL:MIX, PD=59mm and the "C letter test" was 6/6 for both eyes. The Dr said fine and -0.25 is very normal and too early to consider it as a correct measure.
PS: i have a photoGray plano glass makes me feel much better in front of my laptop or any room with florescent light.

Some people find that one works more effectively than the other, so which is used is really up to the patient. Humulin, more commonly called Humulin NPH, and even more commonly called just NPH, is a long acting insulin. It is absorbed more slowly, and it's effects last longer, about 12 hours. Usually NPH is used in combination with one of the fast acting insulins. An alternative long acting insulin would be Lantus.
I want to Thank You both fo your answers My dr took me off of novalin and put me on Humulin 15 units twice a day and it is working some what better I take the humulin like I did the Novalin 15 minutes before meals sugars are doing some better not running near as high as it was on the Lantus If I do not see any results in the next couple of weeks will ask to be referred to and endro

After the glucose drink, which was ~60g of sugar roughly
1 hour later - 3.4 mmol / L (normal 3 .6 to 11)
2 hours later - 2.9 mmol / L (normal 3 .6 to 7.7)

My blood does normally shunt, on a regular basis..each test that I've had has shown blood shunting R-L. My concern is that if I have R-L shunting as my baseline, isn't it probable that bacteria could also be included in that? I've very familiar with anatomy, I work in a Cardiac ICU, but this is not something that gets brought up on a normal basis.
If you are in US I understand you can buy the old insulins (Humulin N and R over the counter in wallmart quite cheaply). This will be better than none. You can also get cheaper meter and strips the same way. I assume you do know how to use insulin properly.
You need to check how you can get assistance. Do you have a Dr? Can you get access to any assistance. Sounds like you might be in trouble with really high blood sugars. Juice can make your sugars very high.
How frequent I can take insulin Humulin 70/30. I am taking 25 unit before each meal some just before meal or sometime after meal.

hi, I always have problems with my blood sugar level. I m using humulin. even though I eat a normal portion of meal, my blood sugar goes up after each meal. but it goes down to normal level after 4-5 hours. it makes me confused because I cant inject more because I will get low, what should I do?
I use humulin R for fast acting and sometime I drop hour after but other times I just keep raising. I just started using toujeo for my long lasting and still adjusting to it. Before the switch I had severe sensitivity to the fast acting insulin and that is why the ratio is so low. I'm starting to think its to low with only taking one long lasting instead of two. Timing used to be after I ate because of the reaction i woukd have and now when I eat.
When I fast my sugars stay stable.

I have been using Humulin R and just started using humulog in combination with this to try and put weight back on , lost about 25lbs . I seem to be having trouble with the humulog . I know our readings are different in canada , 5 to 7 is normal.I have had sugars as high as 32 and used 10 units of humalog , half an hour later I am 34 , I don't understand this ? What is the ratio of humalog to carbs ? I had the flu and I know it can really mess up your sugars , but this was a month ago .
l am 49 yrs old with a pacemaker which l got in November 2007, because l was told l have Sick Sinus Syndrome. I have had problems with lightheadedness, dizzy & fatigue. My pacemaker has been adjusted 3 times now & l am still having problems, at my last appointment l got to talk to the Doctor for the first time since l got my pacemaker.
