Humulin fast acting

Common Questions and Answers about Humulin fast acting

humulin

Avatar n tn Humalog and Novolog are different types of fast acting insulin, meaning that they are quickly absorbed into your system to immediately drop your blood sugar. Some people find that one works more effectively than the other, so which is used is really up to the patient. Humulin, more commonly called Humulin NPH, and even more commonly called just NPH, is a long acting insulin. It is absorbed more slowly, and it's effects last longer, about 12 hours.
Avatar m tn For an insulin dependent diabetic the most effective dosing has been found to be a basal (long-acting)/bolus (short-acting before meals) regimen. But I agree with Sally. Talk to your doctor.
2094297 tn?1345389093 Basal Bolus approach (separate fast and long acting insulin) is going to give you better control that the 70/30. Do you have a carb-insulin ratio. You need to dose fast acting insulin appropriately to cover carbs/protein at each meal. other good books are Using Insulin - By John Walsh and Think Like a Pancreas. Don't worry how much insulin you need to take. Just take what you need to keep your blood sugars more stable.
Avatar m tn Sorry this is such a late response, but no, Humilin R (regular insulin) is not a substitue for Novolog, which is a fast acting insulin. However, her insulin supply is still good for up to 30 days after taking it out of refrigeration. Hope she made it there OK and you had a nice visit.
Avatar f tn I don't know why your blood sugar is spiking after insulin-are you eating during that time? What I do know is that novolin (Regular) is a very outdated mode of insulin. The Lantus you were on was a newer basal (long-acting) insulin, but wouldn't work as well unless it was combined with a bolus (fast-acting) insulin before meals. That is the standard of care. I would see an endocrinologist and get on appropriate insulin regimen because 150-300 is much too high to sustain blood sugars.
Avatar f tn You may be better off using a faster acting insulin to better cover the foods you eat. Ask your Dr. about other fast acting insulin such as Humalog. Also you could cut back the amount of carbohydrates (particularly grains; pasta, rice, potato, bread, fruit, added sugars) that you eat to further help stabilise blood sugars.
Avatar f tn You're a good friend to be concerned about your friends well being. If "N" is Humulin N, there is no "standard" Humulin N dose that will work for all people or even for the same person in all situations. This applies to other insulin types too. If your friends at home test results show low glucose levels "several times per week" it is time to have his/her insulin dosages re-evaluated by their physician.
Avatar m tn Zoe - I think Windchimes meant humulin insulin not huminsulin. Humulin is considered an intermediate acting insulin as its duration is 24 hours, but this can vary per individual. LANTUS, on the other hand, is considered long lasting as its duration is up to 36 hours. Windchimes - You kept your Humulin dose a secret so one can only assume you're at max and why your doctor is considering moving to the pump. This link will give an inside on pumps http://tinyurl.com/lvs7o6 .
Avatar n tn I use humulin R for fast acting and sometime I drop hour after but other times I just keep raising. I just started using toujeo for my long lasting and still adjusting to it. Before the switch I had severe sensitivity to the fast acting insulin and that is why the ratio is so low. I'm starting to think its to low with only taking one long lasting instead of two. Timing used to be after I ate because of the reaction i woukd have and now when I eat. When I fast my sugars stay stable.
Avatar n tn My whole body starts swelling up after weeks of Humulin N shots starting from the feet and legs. I am very sure this is the cause because the swelling subsides and my body will return to normal if I stop my injections. Please help.
Avatar m tn How frequent I can take insulin Humulin 70/30. I am taking 25 unit before each meal some just before meal or sometime after meal. Please advice how much I can take in a day ? How much min duration between 2 intakes ?
Avatar f tn my dog was diagnosed this past tues as diabetic. the vet gave him 3 units of novolin N & said to feed him w/d, 1/2 can every 12 hrs & a shot of novolin N after eatting. the next morning we did & he vomited most of his food. vet said to bring him back and monitored his gluc levels & put him on iv for dehydration. when our vet closed at 4 we were told to take him to to the hospital to be monitored if we were able to.
Avatar n tn The concern with the metformin is if they have to put you under for a csection. I did insulin (humulin for long acting and Humalog with meals) as well. I think they prefer the insulin tho.
Avatar n tn I use humulin n as a long acting insulin , generally about 45 units a day , and humulog to keep my sugars down , lately I have been checking my sugars every half hour to try and get a grip on them , my pharmasist told me that humulog lasts up to 2 hours , I have checked my sugars after injecting it , and it generally takes 1/2 an hour to come down 6 points ( 13 to 7 ) but I have become very brittle , a bowl of porage , no milk , can send me up 6 points , should I be using my humulin R as well as
Avatar f tn hi, I always have problems with my blood sugar level. I m using humulin. even though I eat a normal portion of meal, my blood sugar goes up after each meal. but it goes down to normal level after 4-5 hours. it makes me confused because I cant inject more because I will get low, what should I do?
Avatar f tn Why are you running out !?!??!?! If it is just running out refill the prescription early 2 days. If you have Humilin R on hand I question how old it is. If more than 30 days it is probably expired anyway. I also question having this Insulin as it has been largely discontinued for use as better insulins are now available. But the short answer is Novolog and Humlin R do not act in the same manner so substiuting can be very tricky and is probably not recommended.
Avatar n tn Lantus is very slow-acting and really rarely causes severe hypoglycemia, in my experience, for warning symptoms occur long before it gets severe. However, if the warning symptoms are not listened to, I have personally noticed that the hypoglycemia that eventually happens makes me feel worse than some of the quick-acting insulins do.
Avatar n tn MY DOCTOR PRESCRIBED LANTUS INSULIN TO REPLACE THE HUMULIN L INSULIN THAT I HAD TAKEN FOR SEVERAL YEARS. I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN I TAKE THE LANTUS INSULIN PRESCRIBED DOSAGE(S) THAT APPROXIMATELY 15-30 MINUTES LATER I START TO SWEAT PROFUSELY. IS THIS A NORMAL REACTION TO THE LANTUS INSULIN? I VOICED MY CONCERNS TO MY DOCTOR AND HE HAD NO COMMENT. I AM ALSO TAKING SEVERAL DOSES OF HUMULIN R AND HAVE GAINED WEIGHT SINCE I STARTED TAKING THE LANTUS. PLEASE ADVISE. THANK YOU.
Avatar n tn And my son has made the error with grabbing the wrong insulin, gave the injection of his fast acting...at the amount of insulin that was supposed to be slow acting. If we had left, been on our way to my mother's... when my son figured out he was plummeting...it would have been too fast for enough of a response to help him. It took at trip to the ER, an iv of dextrose, and he had drank fast sugars/juices all the way from home to the ER and could not drink anything more because he was full.
Avatar f tn Both my husband and myself have type 2 diabetes we have no health insurance so we have to buy otc insulin . I need to know how many units should be the initial starting dose of Humulin 70/30 until we can adjust according to daily bs readings.
233382 tn?1193658141 If he is having some high spikes and they seem to be happening more often than they used to happen, maybe it is time to rethink his humulin and humalog. Maybe considering a pump or considering the 24-hour Lantus and a quick-acting insulin like humalog or novalog are worth discussing with his doctor. His a1c level is almost where the goal level is set, so this is encouraging.
Avatar n tn If you are in US I understand you can buy the old insulins (Humulin N and R over the counter in wallmart quite cheaply). This will be better than none. You can also get cheaper meter and strips the same way. I assume you do know how to use insulin properly. You need to check how you can get assistance. Do you have a Dr? Can you get access to any assistance. Sounds like you might be in trouble with really high blood sugars. Juice can make your sugars very high.
Avatar n tn t take my Novalog fast-acting insulin pen with me. However, I inject myself shortly after the meal, when I get back to the office. The max. amount of time I inject AFTER a meal is about 30 minutes. Is this a bad idea or should I assume that it's better to be late than never? I'm a 26 year old Type-1 diabetic by the way.
