Common Questions and Answers about Humalog pump

humalog

Avatar n tn Hello Human Pin Cushion, My son was diagnosed at age 3. He is now 10. My sister was dxd at age 24...she is now 33. My sister did the 72 continuous glucomse monitoring last year. I think it was right before she went on the pump, as well. My son went on the pump right before she did, but he never did the 72 hr. thing. My sis had it inserted in her stomach. My sister (before pump) was on lantus and humalog doing what they call a "poor man's pump".
Avatar n tn t mind her four shots per day (lantus and humalog). She is not really interested in going to the pump but has agreed to meet with her diabetic educator to learn more. What would be your thoughts about her situation?
Avatar n tn The problem is that I am on an insulin pump. I know this stuff is different than what I was taking (Humalog, or the equivelent Novolog), but I don't know what it is going to do to me. My doctor isn't knowledgable and I'm stuck with her. I can't go anywhere else. My question is, what's it gonna do to my blood sugars if I have this stuff being pumped in me every 3 min at the same basal and bolus rates as Humalog? I just had to start it today.
Avatar n tn I have also noticed better control with Novolog, which I use in my pump. I had okay control with Humalog, altho' my ups & downs were troublesome. I seem to have tighter ranges with Novolog. I suppose the key is that we work with our docs to find something that works well for us. I'm glad there are several choices for insulin, so that more folks can be successful with their routines.
Avatar n tn I am wondering if anyone else has to change sites so often, and whether it could be the insulin (humalog)? We love the flexibility and precision of the pump, but this has been difficult.
Avatar n tn I know this is different for everyone - but generally, what is the ratio for the # of mg/dml units dropped by 1 unit of insulin. Like Humalog U100 R. Does anyone know? Lilly (the mfg. of Humalog) said that they didn't have those numbers (I didn't believe that). Just curious. I asked a Diabetes Trainers from my hospital and she didn't have an idea either.
Avatar n tn Oldstuff, Logan would have produced some of his own insulin for some time after being diagnosed. This can go on for years. And it is probably why he was able to achieve good control with supplemental insulin. At this stage, he must be totally dependent on injected insulin. Which makes controlling blood sugar levels a lot more difficult. And it calls for a regimen that gives Logan more control. Biphasic and Regular insulin simply doesn't do that.
209227 tn?1242346745 Is there a difference between Humalog and Novolog insulins? I was told there are exactly the same. But is this true?
Avatar n tn My daughter is currently on the insulin pump and only goes on Lantus/Humalog when her pump is malfunctioning. Thankfully (for us), this hasn't happened in so long that I cannot remember what the formula is to calculate the lantus. I do remember that prior to going on the pump, her endocrinologist switched her lantus shot from AM to PM as her morning bg's were higher than they wanted them.
Avatar n tn I have a question for you, are you on a pump? My nephew was on a pump like I am. The pump is filled with Humalog which works right now, so being without it all night and half the next day was why his sugars were so high. My nephew John was sick but coherent so when his monitor read 256, we thought he had the flu and so did the ER until blood was drawn, over 1800.
Avatar n tn I have been using Novolog Pens for about a year now, and recently have had several problems with their quality. My pharmacist is telling me that most diabetics use Humalog (and Novolog use is rare). Has anyone else had problems or switched from Novolog to Humalog? Are there Novolog users out there? Thanks....
10443766 tn?1410724207 I was on metformin lantus and humalog then they took me off metformin and changed to levimer and humalog. My Dr made me a high risk patient so I get more visits. Its harder because I need to test more but its worth it. My Dr is also very curious on my body and my baby though because once I begay second trimester insulin made my sugars spike (600+) and ice cream, cake, candy etc would make me low (75-90) so I haven't been able to take my insulin.
Avatar n tn I am waiting for supplies to come that will allow me to change from shots to the pump, but in the meantime, my after dinner blood sugars still dive very quickly. I cut my Humalog and NPH doses in half and eliminated the use of Ultralente but I am still having the same problem. My blood sugar will go down 100-150 mg/dL or more within an hour of eating (even when eating carb-rich meals). No matter what I seem to do, this trend occurs. Are there any other individuals with this problem?
Avatar n tn I know our readings are different in canada , 5 to 7 is normal.I have had sugars as high as 32 and used 10 units of humalog , half an hour later I am 34 , I don't understand this ? What is the ratio of humalog to carbs ? I had the flu and I know it can really mess up your sugars , but this was a month ago .Also , I generally feel better when my sugars are around 13 , anything below that and I feel the efects of hyperglycemea , I know that does,t make sense , but it is how I feel.
Avatar n tn ) I am giving you my input based on my experience with my son who was diagnosed almost 7 yrs. ago at the age of 3. (now on the pump as of 3 months ago)I am not a medical professional. I know you realize this, but I just had to reiterate it:) If I understood your question correctly, you were wondering if it was HARMFUL to NOT take any Insulin during a time period where you were not going to eat something with carbs???? My inclination would be to ask you what type of insulin you are on?
Avatar m tn Me to have had type i for thirty year my ac are better controlled with a insulin pump fill better now i get my humalog all the time.I was in a motocross crash in 2013 broke my clavicle all my ribs ripped my right lung hurt my pelvis and both hips 36 hours major surgeries 16 months of physical therapy.now i have diabetic neuropathy.legs are numb and feet are always hurting and cold and numb.but my blood sugars are always good my last a1c was 6.9 vs 11 five years ago when i got on a pump.
Avatar n tn My son recently changed from NPH/R/H to Lantus and humalog pens. This is his fourth day on Lantus. He is doing fine but I am having problems trusting the Lantus - when his b/s drops below 100, I want to give him a can of apple juice, and of course that causes a moderate high. Also, he is not interested in stopping to eat as many snacks and meals because he does not have to 'feed' the NPH. Are these common problems in families starting on Lantus?
Avatar f tn I would ask your doc about getting an insulin pump. Im a type one and im on the pump. I use humalog. That would be the best bet. The pumps are simple to use and they seem to work really well for me.
Avatar f tn Me Endo is now talking about putting me on an insulin pump. She says she has 2 patients who have switched to the pump and had great success. Right now I am on Lantus 30 units AM and 40 PM and Humalog three time a day depending on the my carb intake. Is anyone out there on a pump with type 2 diabetes?
233382 tn?1193658141 If he is having some high spikes and they seem to be happening more often than they used to happen, maybe it is time to rethink his humulin and humalog. Maybe considering a pump or considering the 24-hour Lantus and a quick-acting insulin like humalog or novalog are worth discussing with his doctor. His a1c level is almost where the goal level is set, so this is encouraging.
Avatar n tn s digested more slowly that what the carb coverage with Humalog allows. I usually end up doing a correction bolus of a couple units of Humalog something like six hours after the meal to get my readings down to normal. Some people have problems with potatoes, others with white flour breads -- so you'll have to discover what carbs you're sensitive to and keep an eye out for higher than normal readings if you eat them.
Avatar n tn My daughter was taking Lantus a few years ago to prepare her body for the insulin pump. There were adjustments that were made while she was on it, such as changing the dose from PM to AM which seemed to make a positive difference in her bg's. I do not believe that we experienced any specific issues with stability or delivery at that time though. Have you searched this website for previous postings? There are many of them regarding the use of Lantus that you may find helpful.
Avatar n tn I had Gastric By-Pass January 7, 2007 and have lost about 74lbs. I still want to lose about 25 more lbs but since surgery I am having a really hard time controlling my blood sugars. I take 35 units of Lantus and I'm on a sliding scale of Humalog (I take anywhere from 3 to 10 units of Humalog). I just got back from lunch (I ate about an hour ago) and when I checked my blood sugar it was 310. It has gotten to where 250 - 300 is more the normal than before when it was about 80 - 120.
Avatar n tn t normally wear-- say, a Live Strong bracelet, or the Cure Diabetes one, or even a rubber band-- and seeing it on your wrist when you get out of the water will remind you to pump up again. As for testing your BG, the pump doesn't replace the need for doing that, as you know, so just make a deal with yourself-- no food without testing first. That will ensure that you test at least three or four times a day. Just a couple of thoughts. Good luck to you.
485772 tn?1208701878 I have type 2 diabetes and my new daughter in law has type 1 She has a Paradign Insulin pump 715 LNAP She has no money and my son is in school and has no money ether. My wife and I have very little oursleves ( I'm Not taking as good of care my diabetes as I should but this is for her it is not for me) what We need is Belt clips She keeps breaking her's and any other supply's as possible she is using Humalog anything and everything can be used.
Avatar n tn When my daughter was on shots she took NPH (LONG actinG) at breakfast and dinner along with Humalog ( short acting) occasionally short acting at lunch depednding on what her numbers were. She has been on the pump now for several months.
Avatar n tn His physical activity during the 2 hour periods after taking Humalog are about the same. The dosage criteria for Humalog are about the same (He takes one unit of Humalog for each 10 carbohydrate grams in the morning and one unit of Humalog for each 12 carbohydrate grams at dinner). The only other difference is that he takes NPH at the same time as Humalog in the am and does not take NPH at the dinner meal.
Avatar n tn ve been fine leaving it alone. Mostly, however, 80% is my number. Given the activity profile of Humalog, I turn down my pump about 30 min before I start exercising and normally turn it back up (assuming I didn't fall too low) once I'm done. For youngsters who are growing, I wouldn't be surprised if there were other considerations. I've long ago stopped growing, and this works well for me. I'm interested to look at that web site reference you were given, too.
