Humalog onset peak duration

Common Questions and Answers about Humalog onset peak duration

humalog

Avatar n tn I currently take humalog before meals and such.. The peak time is around 2 hours with a duration of like 6. So anyway I was wondering, When I go out with my friends and eat ice cream or something like, right now the sugar peaks way before my humalog, but what if I injected my humalog into muscle tissue, so it was absorbed rapidly. I think this would better match the peak of the sugar. Lets say im eating on an empty stomach so it is absorbed very fast.
Avatar n tn 5 hours so at two hours would probably drop a little more. From the ADA website Humalog onset less than 15 minutes, peak .5 to 1.5 hours duration 2-4 hours and maximum duration 4-6 hours. And then throw the fat content of the food in the mix which slows digestion and we almost have to be a rocket scientist. Also from the www.diabetes.org website: "Hypoglycemia unawareness tends to happen to people who have had diabetes for many years.
Avatar n tn Insulins generally tend to have three general characterisitics -time of onset, duration of action, and peak of onset.
Avatar m tn older insulin Humalin-N has an onset of 15 - 30 minutes compared to the modern insulins such as Aspart (novorapid for me) and Humalog, which have an onset of about 10 - 15 minutes. Moderate acting insulins are the ones we use for basal (background) insulin. Examples are Humalin-R (older insulin), levemir, lantus etc. Then we have the action profile: whether there is a peak or not. The older insulins, particularly humalin-R do not have a flat action profile.
Avatar n tn I would check with your doctor on how to adjust your insulin to avoid the highs and lows. For example, Humalog is supposed to peak in 2 hours. In my daughter it seems to peak in 3 hours. Your doctor can advise you as to how the Lantus is affecting you, and how to adjust your food, and time you take the insulin. You might also want to ask about the insulin pump, Which does the same as the Lantus.
Avatar m tn Hi! I'm in a 20ui HUMALOG after meals regiment, however, in between meals and during the night my blood sugar levels drop below 70. Should I stop taking the HUMALOG?
Avatar n tn His physical activity during the 2 hour periods after taking Humalog are about the same. The dosage criteria for Humalog are about the same (He takes one unit of Humalog for each 10 carbohydrate grams in the morning and one unit of Humalog for each 12 carbohydrate grams at dinner). The only other difference is that he takes NPH at the same time as Humalog in the am and does not take NPH at the dinner meal.
Avatar m tn I just started on Lantus and Humalog and my blood sugars seem to keep going up, I take 30 U at night Lantus and I take Humalog 10 before meals if my bs is 180 or higher, does this sound right, I was diagnosed a Type 2 about 6 years ago, but the Glipizide and Metformin I was taking has been stopped, but my fasting bs has been 270 or higher any suggestions I know control my diet I get that, I also weigh 239 my Dr's say to loose weight, and I am going to try.

636562 tn?1223667445 The onset of action of chlorpheniramine is about 30—60 minutes, with peak concentrations occurring in about 2-6 hours and peak effect in about 6 hours. The duration of action is between 4—8 hours. Hydrocodone is well absorbed from the GI tract. Onset of analgesic action is achieved in 10—30 minutes. Peak analgesic effect occurs in 30—60 minutes and lasts for 4—6 hours. Antitussive activity also lasts for 4—6 hours.
Avatar n tn Type 1 for 40 years, good control but disagree with the constant increase in Lantus she adds every visit) Too many lows, not associated with Humalog, then too many rebounds after eating. I have almost perfect days when I slightly reduce the Lantus she prescribes. It's very frustrating, and she thinks this would be a good thing.
Avatar f tn Good for you! Your symptoms should peak (be a the worst) and then each day after start getting better. It's amazing how something that makes you feel good can eventually turn on you physically and mentally. Learning to live each day without the pills is the hardest part, even if you don't want them. It's become such a part of us and our routines. Keep yourself busy and force yourself to do things and the time will pass more quickly.
Avatar f tn if you did a slow taper you might not have a severe onset of withdrawal symptoms.some havent had any symptoms for up to 5 days.just take it if and as it comes. the methadone detox is just a longer duration. sleep and energy issues take longer to return to normal then other opiates. are you planning on counseling and/ or support groups to prevent relapse? congrats on your decision to stop using.
Avatar n tn My Novolog shots don't seem to work when I take it with food resulting in a lot of high blood sugars. When I take a shot to counter the high blood sugars the shot almost always works. My endocronologist doesn't know why and has never heard of this happening unless it is do to sloww digestion. I am 35 years old and have had type 1 for 20 years. What I don't get is that if my food hasn't digested wouldn't my blood sugars crash? Instead they peak!
Avatar n tn I am a 27 year old, juvenile onset diabetic. I am thin for my height and have never had a problem with cellulite until the change in medication. Can this be linked to either of the new insulins that I am taking?
Avatar n tn Great name, there, Oldstuff, I'm writing to echo what SS wrote to you. Seems that many Type 1 need the greater flexibility that a separate Long-acting & short-acting insulin provides. This is exactly what your son is doing by taking extra shots. Regular used to be our only choice in short-acting insulins, but now we have access to even quicker-acting insulins (Humalog & Novolog).
Avatar f tn I have been diabetic fro 12 years but found out his information about insulins. You need to know the onset and peak times. The article i read is Levemir onset is 3-4 hour after initial injection and then peaks at 6-8 hours after injection. I do not see a 24 hours effect when taking Levemir.
Avatar f tn My dog is 9 years old. He started having sudden onset seizures about a year ago. About a month apart. Then for 24 hours he has cluster seizures and then fine again for a month. Very said puliminary tests look good but to go into more detailed testing is much more expensive so we couldn't afford it but he was fine otherwise so just once a month we would make him comfortable for the day, allow the seizures to pass and continued on with life. This past episode has been so much worse.
Avatar n tn My son recently changed from NPH/R/H to Lantus and humalog pens. This is his fourth day on Lantus. He is doing fine but I am having problems trusting the Lantus - when his b/s drops below 100, I want to give him a can of apple juice, and of course that causes a moderate high. Also, he is not interested in stopping to eat as many snacks and meals because he does not have to 'feed' the NPH. Are these common problems in families starting on Lantus?
