Humalog action time

Common Questions and Answers about Humalog action time

humalog

Avatar n tn 7:30am (breakfast), 9:30 am, noon, 5:30 pm (dinner), 7:30 pm, and 9:30 pm. My concern is the apparent difference in effectiveness of the Humalog which he takes at 7:30 am and 5:30 pm. He measures his blood sugar two hours after taking the Humalog (@ 9:30 am and @ 7:30 pm). Over a seven week period his 9:30 am reading has averaged 214 and his 7:30 reading has averaged 113). His physical activity during the 2 hour periods after taking Humalog are about the same.
Avatar n tn There is a big difference in the action of humalog 50/50 compared to regular. You should really only change your medication with the supervision and guidance of your doctor. Please do discuss this with your doctor.
Avatar n tn It would involve one daily injection of a long-acting insulin like Lantus, which has a flat action profile over 24 hours. And a shot of Humalog or Novolog before each meal. Doing this would minimise the carb/insulin mismatch when you skip a meal. The basal/bolus regimen would give you more flexibility and better control. You may want to discuss this with your doctor.
Avatar n tn Hello Geek, I didn't see your msg until today and hope I can be of some help to you. I'm not a physician, but I have been a pumper for ~9 years and have had DM for ~35. When I starated pumping, the only insulins available were "Regular" insulin and the main difference, as you know, is "how quickly" the insulin starts working, when it peaks and how long it lasts. Regular normally kicks in later than Novolog or Humalog will.
Avatar n tn Hello MKH2, As you may know, we're all volunteers here and none of us is a medical professional. We all have learned about diabetes in the same ways you are. I happen to be a pumper also and have a few suggestions for you to discuss with your son's endo. I'm sure you know how important it is for a physician who knows the details of your son's condition to evaluate the ideas that work for someone else. So, with all those disclaimers, here's what I've found ...
Avatar n tn 17 yrs? and now your asking? You R Serious, right? Go ahead take just the Lantus and test every couple of hours after and of course before meals and see what happens.. and I surely Hope you got the book > Think Like a Pancrease my friend..
Avatar n tn If you read the paperwork in your Lantus box, you will read that it lasts anywhere between 20-24 hours. It seems to peter out sort of slowly sometime in that time frame, leaving very little Lantus working to help with his dinner-time quick-acting insulin. So it may take more insulin in the evenings than at other mealtimes to cover the same amount of carbs. Some of us prefer to split the Lantus dose, taking some in the morning and some in the evening to equal the complete dose.
Avatar n tn For me, a major benefit of switching from NPH to Lantus has been the reduced variability in action. And delivery via the Humalog pen appears to be very consistent.
Avatar n tn Oldstuff, Logan would have produced some of his own insulin for some time after being diagnosed. This can go on for years. And it is probably why he was able to achieve good control with supplemental insulin. At this stage, he must be totally dependent on injected insulin. Which makes controlling blood sugar levels a lot more difficult. And it calls for a regimen that gives Logan more control. Biphasic and Regular insulin simply doesn't do that.
Avatar n tn I am not a doctor and I can not say this will work for everyone but if you can test a few time to see how much you bs drops with 2 units of humalog you can gage yourself pretty well this way and just take the humalog after you eat instead of before you eat and test after eating to tell where you need to be. I hope this helps. If anyone disagree please post your concern.
Avatar n tn His behaviour became worse overnight and continued like this until just before Christmas when we made the decision to take him off the humalog again for good. It took 3 days this time for his behaviour to return to normality. I mentioned these problems to his consultant who was very scathing and dismissive and told me the behaviour problems were due to his low blood sugar, even though he regularly has bad hypos on his normal insulin.
Avatar n tn I started controlling my blood sugar using Regular insulin About 3 years ago, my doctor moved me to humalog. Using humalog was not easy. I looked at the study that was done and it never reacted as expected when I used it. It was taking 2 hours to start working and in by the third hour my glucose level would drop 200 to 250. It was also hard for me to sense when my blood sugar is low. That was very frustrating. After six month of roller coaster, my doctor put me on Novolog.
Avatar n tn Insulins generally tend to have three general characterisitics -time of onset, duration of action, and peak of onset.
Avatar n tn I know our readings are different in canada , 5 to 7 is normal.I have had sugars as high as 32 and used 10 units of humalog , half an hour later I am 34 , I don't understand this ? What is the ratio of humalog to carbs ? I had the flu and I know it can really mess up your sugars , but this was a month ago .Also , I generally feel better when my sugars are around 13 , anything below that and I feel the efects of hyperglycemea , I know that does,t make sense , but it is how I feel.
Avatar n tn I know this is different for everyone - but generally, what is the ratio for the # of mg/dml units dropped by 1 unit of insulin. Like Humalog U100 R. Does anyone know? Lilly (the mfg. of Humalog) said that they didn't have those numbers (I didn't believe that). Just curious. I asked a Diabetes Trainers from my hospital and she didn't have an idea either.
Avatar n tn Sometimes he just was not hungry and other times he wanted to eat more at one time. If we had opted for lantus and then humalog to correct and to cover food, I would be running back and forth to school because he was not ready to give shots and we talked about the pump and watched a video about it and decided together.
Avatar n tn I use humalog before bed time and lantus at night. I notice that eversince my sugar levels have been in a ok range, ,my weight has increased by 4 lbs. Does insulin make u gain weight even if you eat healthy???I was thinking of starting to take lantus in the morning....
Avatar n tn I have recently been switched to Lantus & Humalog and I have some questions. I take it in the morning. If I awake with an abnormal blood sugar (too high) I assume I would take a small dose of fast acting. Would I also take a small dose of fast acting if my blood sugar is normal, as to cover my breakfast? I know to count the carbs before the lunch meal and the dinner meal, but didn't ask about the breakfast meal.
1452593 tn?1285187324 My Dr has prescribed a glucose 2hr PC as part of my regular HA1c bloodwork, and I wonder what he hopes to learn. I use Lantus in the morning for my baseline and Humalog for meals/high sugar etc. His instructions have never been clear when I go for the bloodwork after fasting ( the other tests he runs at the same time as the HA1c require a 12 hr and 8 hr fast). Should I administer both insulins as I would normally (Lantus at brreakfast time and Humalog if the fasting sugar is high, ie.
Avatar n tn my fathers blood sugar is 224 how many units of levemir flexpen do i give him his Dr put him on a sliding scale. i dont know what the dosage is ???? i give him humalog the scale is 200 to 250/ 5 units and so on. Is there a guideline of units for levemir ?
Avatar n tn I currently take humalog before meals and such.. The peak time is around 2 hours with a duration of like 6. So anyway I was wondering, When I go out with my friends and eat ice cream or something like, right now the sugar peaks way before my humalog, but what if I injected my humalog into muscle tissue, so it was absorbed rapidly. I think this would better match the peak of the sugar. Lets say im eating on an empty stomach so it is absorbed very fast.
