flexibility

Avatar f tn Stretching isn't the best way to improve flexibility—lifting weights through a full range of motion is, according to a recent study at the University of North Dakota. Pausing for 2 to 3 seconds at the "down" position of the lift (where you feel the stretch) without relaxing your muscles is even more effective.
7980557 tn?1395954094 Hello I quit dance when I was about nine and I recently started doing it again. I also started stretching to improve my flexibility. I've improved a lot and can now do the splits however I recently strained my right leg muscles, especially in the thigh. It's not getting any better and I am getting stiffer and less flexible as it is too painful to stretch. Is there any way I could stretch again soon and make the muscle loosen again?
Avatar n tn Perform yoga or stretches after each exercise session to improve your flexibility and reduce your risk of soreness and injuries. Stretching helps to elongate your muscles to give your legs a leaner appearance. No excess sodium and improve your diet to reduce water retention. Your knees and other areas appear larger when you carry excess water. Cut out processed meat, table salt, salty snack foods, canned foods and most frozen dinners.
Avatar n tn s advice, you need to be in some sort of physical therapy to strenghten and improve flexibility of muscles related to your spine. Also, if your accident was fairly recent, you need to rest a lot, so not being able to get out of bed is your body trying to tell you something. You also need to be on some sort of medicine, either pain killers or antispasmodics, to help control the discomfort you are experiencing in your back, since the shots are not enough.
Avatar f tn Research has shown that stretching can inhibit your performance and doesn't reduce your risk of injury. One study performed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill showed that subjects who performed dynamic warm-ups had higher performance in the vertical jump test than those who just did standard stretching.
Avatar f tn Today I woke up and felt fine, went for a quick EASY bike ride and then sat down afterwards, and when I stood up it felt like my quad muscles had turned to bricks and the back pain came back suddenly, my legs were so tight and fatigued that I could barely walk! I just have no idea what's going on. I've recently tried drinking electrolyte powder thinking my stiffness and spasms were caused by lack of electrolytes, but that is not helping!
Avatar n tn I've been quite sedentary since taking an early retirement several years ago. I'm 53 years old now and trying to get out of a state of being very deconditioned. I've been walking for 20 minutes a day, which is pretty minimal, so I decided to buy a Lifefitness 9500 elliptical trainer. The trainer certainly used some new muscles, my legs were like rubber for the first few days, and I only used it for a few minutes.
Avatar n tn I am not an expert on this but acupuncture helps relax muscles and improve the circulation in the area thereby causes flushing of the pain modulators. Avatar m tn I have also had injections of Kenalog. Nothing I have done seems to improve my flexibility or the soreness. I know there is minimal arthritis behind the knee cap which may be some of the contributing factors. I am feeling a bit frustrated that I am not progressing any faster and thinking I may need another MRI to see if there is another tear maybe? What is the normal healing time for this kind of injury and what more could I do?

1936411 tn?1333831849 Can we talk a bit about physical therapy and/or exercises intended to improve gait and build strength in the legs? Since my last flare, I have some very mild gait/balance issues that my neuro probably wouldn't assess as requiring physical therapy. But I would like to be proactive and begin building a repertoire of exercises which will help me improve my gait and leg strength now (rather than wait to see if things get worse later).
1734735 tn?1413778071 I do neck stretching like this as part of my morning wake up routine. I'm not sure it builds neck strength so much as it increases muscle flexibiilty and thus redces the risk of injury to the neck muscles. It has made me more comfortable with less neck strain, but has had no impact, positive or negative, on my Lhermitte's.
Avatar m tn Went through physiotherapy but joints flexibility does not improve no matter how much i stretched. Wrists hurt after stretching for a few hours up to 2 days. Wrist hurts if i spend long hours using computer sometimes it hurts even when im not doing anything. I seem to have tendonitis in my wrist too. I'm not sure whether the pain in my wrist and the flexibility issues are related.
Avatar f tn I’ve been doing some deep massage to the quad origin muscles, because that seems to be the area where the sharp and stabbing pain originates. I cannot be too inactive though because I have two toddlers, who are quite demanding. Once I’ve been standing for a good long while, eventually my hip pain fades away and I’m able to get around without restrictions. But when I sit down and rest for a bit, the pain is back again.

1697806 tn?1339083319 Powders and pills won't produce muscles!! Do no more than 20 sets per muscle group closer to 12 is even better. Your reps should be between six and 12 per set for the most muscle growth, and your workouts should never last much longer than 45 minutes. use heavier weights and move through each rep at a controlled speed. Your sets should last between 40 and 70 seconds any less, and you're not tensing your muscles long enough to shock them into growth.
Avatar f tn at 13, in 2009, i had a spinal fusion and rods inserted for my s-curve scoliosis. i believe it was somewhere around L2 or L3 to T4 or 5. basically my entire spine. with 2 years passed, i've found my daily pain to be much worse than it was before my surgery. i've tried everything to reduce pain, from massages to physical therapy and even prescription drugs, but all of those had either no results or temporary ones. now, at 16 years old, i've made the decision to try to go back.
Avatar f tn She prescribed valium to help relax my muscles at night and omeprazole for the morning. She also said to conintue the Ranitidine at night with the fluticasone spray. She also put in for a CT scan and allergy testing. I'm still waiting to hear to be called for all this. All of this is making me miserable and affecting my quality of life. I feel like that is being dramatic, but it's the truth. I wake up miserable and just want to feel myself again.
Avatar f tn I was planning on using the same exercises after surgery. I am just trying to give my self time to heal and I am not sure how long that is suppose to be. .
1007653 tn?1259385967 The reason is that, for one, huge muscles inhibit flexibility, and flexibility is much more important to human survival and reflex movement than huge muscles, and, second, muscle requires too much nutrition, which makes survival harder. So if you want muscles that go beyond what your genetics will allow, you have to cheat one way or the other, including eating too much protein or taking substances not meant to be taken such as creatine or steroids.
