Common Questions and Answers about How much is valtrex with insurance

valtrex

Avatar f tn I talked to my doctor about it today and she said it costs $50 for a tube! That is before insurance - I had her call in a prescription but still not sure how much with my insurance, as I'll ask WHERE do you get it for $20?? Thanks for that lead to the westover heights handbook, too!
1831849 tn?1383228392 I just received my first bill for Copaxone. They are billing my insurance company over $3K monthly, which is much higher than the monthly cost I had heard others discuss on the forum. My copay would normally be $250, but I somehow qualified for a financial assistance program in which Shared Solutions will cover all of my copay except for $35/month. I have no idea what I did to qualify, since there was no application. It's all quite strange.
Avatar f tn The ones covered by insurance we don't see the price they send it straight to the ins. company.
Avatar f tn The daily suppressive therapy are the ones that I will have to take every day for the rest of my life right? do you know how much they cost? are they expensive like the valtrex? and also. I have been this burning sensation for about 2 days. Could that be linked to the herpes virus. can how can i reduce the burning sensation I tired the epson salt bath and it works for a little while and stops.
Avatar n tn Hello Uwantmetodowaht, I am very sorry you are in so much pain. It is sad that you are having issues with insurance and PM Clinics. Unfortunately our Health Care Delivery System is not always conductive to our needs. You are taking a dangerous cocktail. Liver and kidney damage are often not reversible. Please do not take the chance of permanent injury to either or both vital organs.
Avatar f tn I didnt really know where else to put this, but does anyone know how much is the general cost that it would be to go see someone for help?
Avatar f tn No one really knows this for sure. The chances of a quick kiss without a sore transmitting this is low - not impossible, but low - so try not to worry overly much about this. (I know, easier said than done, and it's not my daughter.) If you are getting a lot of outbreaks, and since transmitting this is a big concern for you, have you thought about suppressive therapy?
Avatar n tn Hey Guys- So i have Genital Herpes :-( I'm currently in mist of my second outbreak WHICH HURTS!!! I have more lesions than my first outbreak and really need to figure out if there is any relief during this time. Is Valtrex worth going on? I am still under my parents insurance and I'm DEF not ready for them to find out. I haven't even told ANY of my friends. I know that Valtrex is expensive and I was wondering if any of you take it, and if so how much difference does it make?
Avatar m tn t be a money issue for most folks if they have decent prescription coverage with their insurance. Acyclovir is still way cheaper but if you have insurance coverage that makes generics low cost, valtrex is, as of this month, going to be WAY cheaper for you now :) the technicality to the answer to your question is this - only valtrex has been studied for reduction in transmission to a partner.
Avatar f tn Ive been taking acyclovir (generic for zovirax) for about a year now. my doctor said its the same drug as valtrex but with valtrex you can get away with taking it once a day. I also dont have insurance and can not afford valtrex so thats why im taking this generic. I take 400mg acyclovir twice a day (which was very hard to get used to, but you have to!) and I get 180 pills (90 days) at Hy-Vee (grocery store) and Sam's club for $10. Other pharmacies charge upwards of $80 for just 30 days.
Avatar m tn To get the same effectiveness from Acyclovir how much should I be taking daily during out breaks? I have tried 600mg Acyc 3 times a day but it takes 7 days to clear up. Please advise.
Avatar n tn What do yo think about the difference in the medications acyclovir and Vatrex? My insurance does not cover much for Valtrex which I am taking as a suppressive medication. Does Acyclovir prevent outbreaks and prevent me from passing the virus to an uninfected person? I have not been able to sleep well, since all this happened, could you please answer this questions for me? Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn Now my eyes are aching and the tissue behind the eye is growing over it and I was asking how much it would cost to do the surgery to take the tissue out. So does anyone know how much for the orbital decompression surgery? Thanks.
Avatar n tn What is the procedure for getting a Valtrex prescription?? Every time I go to this doctor I go to, he writes me a prescription for 3 months. And when the refills are up calling in to ask for more is not an option. They actually want you to come into the office. I don't have time to keep doing this. And I really don't see the point!?!? What needs to be looked at? Nothing is going to change!
2093716 tn?1344094995 Yeah you should call your insurance company to see what's going on. I think my first appointment or two were more expensive (although not $300 expensive) and from that point on they were actually free unless I had an ultrasound. I picked up another specialist during the pregnancy for a complication, and they tried to charge me $300 a visit for that. Since I'm not a multi-millionaire, I did a little battle with my insurance company.
Avatar f tn I have read in various places that Valtrex is the only suppressive medication that has been proven in clinical trials to reduce transmission. I am under the impression, however, that this is simply because Valtrex is the only drug that has been tested for reduction in transmission. My question is....since Acyclovir also suppresses the HSV-2 virus, is it likely that it will also reduce the risk of transmission? Or, is Valtrex a more effective drug and should I consider switching to that?
Avatar f tn They also said that if I took valtrex for 2 years its suppose to help with outbreaks in the future. ?? Thanks so much for your help..
Avatar n tn Also as a fyi - valtrex will be going generic in december of this year. It should be going down in price then so if you find that taking medication 2x/day is too hard to remember - check back with your pharmacist next january to see if the price has come down a lot more for you or not with valtrex. If you've never read the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com - it's free and has all the medications and their doses listed there - bookmark it for easy reference!
Avatar f tn I have been tested since he was diagnosed, but it was several months ago. He is not on the daily suppressive therapy, he takes Valtrex when he feels an outbreak. Isn't the daily pill much more expensive? We don't have insurance, so that's why I ask.
Avatar m tn There is no definite answer. Your right, it is an expensive drug, acyclovir (sp) is much cheaper but is taken 3 (or maybe 2) times a day. You need to find the solution that is best for your situation. For me, Im in a committed relationship. My partner does not have HSV2 that he is aware of. We do not use condoms, refrain from sex during an outbreak and I take Valtrex daily.
Avatar m tn So what is the best advice, how safe is it to take 2 or 3 grams per day? If a patient is suffering, is 3 grams per day the "consensus" upper limit for dosage? Does 3 grams per day cause any liver damage or warrant special testing or precautions? Is 3 grams per day ever worth the risk if a patient is not immune compromised or having serious complications in terms of the disease? Thank you.
