I haven't tried Mirapex, but find that a tens unit works wonders at helping the pain and spasms anywhere on the body, except over the heart or on the head. I think a tens unit confuses the pain signals and tones them down a lot.

I think the one you are thinking about is called Hylands and it is a supplement.

I never realized what a good night's sleep felt like until Mirapex....I started out on a drug trial when this medication first was introduced; my dosage was .25mg. Now, 20 years later, I'm up to 1.5 mg per night, but still sleeping like a baby. The OTC "restless leg" drugs are helpful, but nothing works for RLS like Mirapex. If you are without prescription drug coverage or can't afford it, the manufacturer will supply your drugs if you qualify.

I hope that you find something that works for you and I commend you on giving up the Mirapex for your family. Before I was diagnosed, I thought RLS was a crock - now I know differently.

Because of the Mirapex and Gabapentin I can sleep at all. I still get uncomfortable though. It is pain really, except in my left arm anyway. But, the uncomfortablnes and pain in left arm is toerable. I just need more sleep than i am getting.

I tried the Gabapentin and got up to 1200 mg - which was also taken before bed, but it did nothing for me. I have been told that Mirapex works much better than Ropinerol - you may want to talk to your doc about Mirapex as an option - it just went generic.

Yes, mirapex works wonderfully for me. There are some things that only the Gabbapentin seems to work on though. Although, without Mirapex makes a big difference.

I had been having a lot of unexplained symptoms such as tremor, muscle twitching and jerking, tingling in my extremeties and severe eye pain and facial numbness. Migraine was ruled out. Since I started on the mirapex most of my symptoms have either gone away completely or greatly diminished. Could they have been simply caused by the sleep deprivation? Thanks for your time.

First, let me say how glad I am to have come across this site. It is great to be able to track the pain and other symptoms that I experience with my illness. This makes it much easier to keep track of what I need to talk to the doctor about since memory is also something that I have difficulties with. I am not sure how I found out about your site, but am thinking that it would be excellent if doctors would give the URL out to their patients to help track symptoms.

I have never tried requip but my doctor has me on Mirapex which works wonders for me. I have also be told that there is an otc called hylands restful leg that works well too. eating bananas and hot baths before bed, helps alot too also stretching exercises, I lay on my stomach and hold on to my ankle and gentle pull back(towards buttocks) just until I feel the tightness, if you do this ever evening just before you go to sleep it helps.

I have found that I can only take the Mirapex during an actual flare. Otherwise it makes me anxious the next day. I hope it works well for you. It certainly does help with the RLS that my antipsychotic gives me!

s 0436, day 7 no vics and I did sleep about 6 hours, but I take 1mg klonopin every night for fibro and I take mirapex for RLS -- the vicodin also helps with RLS but the mirapex works better I promise...I get it in my legs, hips and arms and I just want to scream.......see if you can get some samples of that or requip bcuz even with insurance they are expensive. You can get through it - it will get better, oh, just remembered...mirapex.

Lots of things do trigger RLS and make it worse, but I have no idea how the thyroid works with that. There is an rls.org website that has a list of stuff that can make RLS worse. Remember "worse" is generally temporary, like a lot of standing one day will make your legs hurt more for a while, until you've had a chance to rest.

I do know that taking an antidepressant without a mood stabilizer can cause mania, also I take Mirapex (a dopamine drug) to help treat my fibro and I'm under "special watch" because the dopamine meds can cause mania even in people that aren't bipolar. My husband was taking Mirapex as well for his fibro and he had to stop because it made him feel manic, and he's not bipolar. So I can't speak for the seratonin, but the dopamine can definitely make someone manic.

Secondly, I have been put on Pramoxile (sp?) Mirapex for it. Started at 1/8 mg and increased over time to now 1 mg. I hate the side effects but it seems to be working for the most part. I understand it is mainly used for Parkinson's diasease and sometimes RLS. Does anyone take this for their RLS? If so how much? Supossedly it helps increase Dopmine levels which PLMD and Parkinson disorders have in common.I'm not sure if RLS is caused by low Dopamine or not. I feel like YUCK.

I have severe Restless leg Syndrome. I have been on Mirapex for about 6 years now, and never had a problem. I am unemployed now, and do not have any health insurance. My doctor has been great to give me samples, however; they are out of them right now. My doctor tried giving me clonazepam 1 mg 2 nights ago, I walked the floors and tossed and turned all night. I called my doctor, and she said to increase my clonazepam to 2mg before bed.

The doctor put me on mirapex. She told me it would make me very sleepy and help to control the jerking and twitching at night to allow me to get better sleep. I spent most of my sleep time in phase 2 sleep with very little time in REM. My question is about the mirapex. Have any of you ever had issues falling asleep while on the mirapex? I find that once I do get to sleep it helps me stay asleep better.

Lyrica works very well. I don't know if you would call it addictive, but it is a long term medication that you start out low dose and increase, then cannot stop without doctor's approval and reducing slowly. But it is helping many people with nerve pain from fibro. You might look into it.........

t know about the Monavie but what I take and is wonderful is Mirapex. I take it 3 times a day and have no restless legs unless I skip a dose or run out and then the RLS returns. I hope this has helped.

I'm on .25mg of Mirapex for RLS and am gaining weight. Has anyone else experienced this. Any idea as to why. Suggestions? Thanks!

apparently it has worked for lots of people, I agree with avisg contact your doctor for a script, there are medications available that are not narcotic, I take mirapex at bedtime and it works well for me. also try taking super hot baths with epsom salt right before bed.

Anyway I hope thsi helps abit. Mirapex is actually a Parkensons Disease drug but tests have found it works for RLS.

I loose a lot of sleep. I get in day and night. My arms even jerk and have that restless feeling. Mirapex is taken twice a day and don't help. No drs will address it and I'm miserable . Is this a lack of a vitamin or mineral. Do I ever get rid of them?

would be nice if it were that simple, also would be very pissed when i think of what it would have stolen from me. Will keep you posted on how i do without the Mirapex.

I have read the awful side effects of behavior with Mirapex and also think anything that works on the dopamine in your brain is risky and they warn of gambling or other things, like shopping. That is me. I like to look nice and shop too much. I use a walker and handcontrols on my car - somehow, I think my style counteracts the walker and the hand controls. Crazy, ins't it?. The last five years before I retired was before Mirapex and it was literally HELL.

From the many times I have went thru wds I know this is the last thing u wanna hear but I have found nothing that helps wih rls I have even tried mirapex which is made for rls and it did not help a lick some ppm say hymena rls helps but it didn't me but u coul try it they sell it at walmart it's OTC and not expensive but I think nothing works because the cause of the rls when in withdrawals is not what causes people who actually have rls so the Mesa don't help but I am no doc and don
