Common Questions and Answers about How maxalt works

maxalt

Avatar f tn t mean to interrupt but I am actually a pharmacist and thought I could clarify the maxalt questions.... Maxalt is not a beta blocker. It is a 5HT1B receptor agonist. Basically it's a triptan drug that is used for vascular migraines. Vascular migraines cause vasodilation of blood vessels and that dilation causes pain. Triptan drugs cause vasoconstriction of those blood vessels and thus reduced the pain caused by pressure.
Avatar f tn Hello! I am 34 years old for the past 2 years I have been getting nausea with constant headache for 6 days before my period. It's to the point where I'm on zofran and have maxalt for headache. I can't leave my house because I feel like I'm going to vomit but I don't. I guess that's a good thing, lol zofran works. Once I get my period it goes away! Anyone experience this or have any feedback thank you!!!
768044 tn?1294223436 I use Maxalt 10mg tablets. I'd never be able to handle the disintegrating tablets due to throwing up. The Maxalt works wonderful for me and I've been using it for the last 2 years. I've never had any side effects while using this medication.
Avatar f tn Has anyone used Remeron for depression, while taking Maxalt for their migraines? I have migraines about every other day, and take 5mg maxalt for them. I was just given Remeron for depression, as the doc said i cannot take any SSRI's because of serotonin syndrome. I cannot find and interactions for Remeron, but just wondering if anyone else has tried these together. Any info appreciated.
655875 tn?1295695107 My friend had called me and I told her that I was too sick to talk and that I had run out of my Maxalt. My friend is a life saver! When she got off of work, she picked up my Maxalt and brought it to me. She also brought me some hot dogs, chips and pop because I had nothing to eat in the house. Hubby left on Wednsday and took the kids up to the cabin, so I've been here alone. I thought that was extremely nice of my friend to go and do that for me.
Avatar f tn I also get migraines. have you paid attention to any of the known migraine "triggers" like red wiine & chocolate, hard cheeses etc. You probably have but I thought I'd mention it. Like the others, I take Maxalt for mine & it always works. Maxalt is from the migraine interrupter family & also includes imetrix & Zomig. Good luck - it sounds very difficult.
Avatar f tn ve had a headache that put me in bed every week, usually Sunday through Wednesday. I have taken Norontan and Amitryptiline; both had negative affects. Maxalt does me no good. Feverfew and other herbs like that were not recommended for grown women. I take nettle tea. Alieve seems to be the only drug that helps. My doctor said that atmosphere can have a lot to do with it--and advised me to relocate. Is there anything else that works which I could take?
1102283 tn?1257817472 I personally use Zomig Nasal Spray and find it works extremely well. I also have found great success with Maxalt-MLTs. Although, everyone is different and all of the triptans on the market have been proven effective in clinical trials, so please discuss with the doctor in the clinic which triptan would be the most appropriate in your situation. Although, if you want to go in suggesting something...
655875 tn?1295695107 Right now I'm on my 7th migraine in the last 4 weeks. I have a herniated c5-7 that is compressing on the spinal cord. I've been taking Maxalt with some of my migraines, which does help, but insurance only allows so many in a month and they are expensive. I've been also taking percocet in place of the maxalt, but it does not work as well for the headaches. Is there something I can do to try and prevent these migraines? Are there other natural alternatives rather then medication?
Avatar m tn She proclaims that she diluted and injected her migraine medicine (Maxalt) because she keeps throwing it up. Her symptoms, however, where those of an opiate overdose....blue hands and face, low respiration, eyes rolling backwards, staggering, tremoring arms upon waking up, disorientation, etc. Does anyone know what the side effects would be of injecting maxalt? I find this impossible to believe that it would knock her out and turn her blue.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
564491 tn?1320360393 I have sleep apnea, insomnia, Diabetes Type II, hypertension, chronic headaches/migraines, hypothroidism, dysthymia, genralized anxiety disorder, elevated cholesterol (all controlled with medication). I take Rozerem for the insomnia. Works a bit. I use a C-PAP machine for the sleep apnea, but it doesn't seem to help my migraines and chronic headaches as I was hoping it would do. I am at the end of my rope, as it seems nothing and noone can help me.
Avatar m tn Probably the 5mg Zomig Nasal Spray which works in 10 minutes or the 5mg Zomig-ZMT which works in 30 minutes would be best for SS. So... it really depends on how long your SS lasts for. If it lasts for more than half an hour usually, a quick dissolve tablet might be an option for you. Otherwise, if it lasts half an hour or less, then a nasal spray triptan looks like your best option for treatment. In case your SS DOES last for more than half an hour usually...
Avatar n tn Hi my name is Jessica I have had migraines for the last two years. I am olny 14 and my doctor precribed me Elavil 25 mg every night before I go to bed and Maxalt 10 mg when that dosen't work. I was wondering if Elavil is safe for a child my age (14). Or if there is something safer for me. I have noticed feeling sleeper lately. Thats definately not normal for me I use to have alot of energy and stuff, now I just like to lay around and I never feel like I have done anything when I do that.
Avatar f tn Maxalt rocks. I love it and carry it everywhere with me. www.maxalt.com Another new med www.relpax.com (I have some, just not had a headache lately to use them) because I take my magnesium :0-). Here is a good site with migraine info. http://www.achenet.org/ And you need to get your migraine "bible" I got mine off of half.com cheap. This book helped me a lot in understanding my headaches and lots of good info.
573622 tn?1217279489 I have been to a Neorologist and given Topomax and did nothing for me and my migraines or headaches. My Internal doctor is treating me now because my Neorologist said he had done all he could. I am still have terrible headaches or migraines. I hurt mostly on my left side. I have them everyday and I can't bear the pain. I can't go to the hospital everyday so my dr. has given me Loritab to take when I have one. Well, I have one every day. What should I do? I'm at my wits end.
Avatar f tn For several years I have dealt with headaches, and recently they have gotten worse and more often. They start on one side of the head first, and extremely painful. Pain is in my nose, temples and contiunes to the back of the neck. I try tylenol, motrin combined wtih a sinus reliever and that only makes me sick to my stomach. After a few days with the pain on one side it will fade and go away then come back on the opposite side for another few days always the same type of pain.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone, I have taking Inderal for migraines for roughly a year now. I started on 2 x 3 times a day and then went up to 3x 3 times a day (recommended by my neurologist). I went to visit my GP and she recommended that I try and lower my dosage to 2 x 3 times a day and then eventually down to 1 x 3 times a day (on account of the fact that the tablets seemed to be giving me bad nightmares).
1549468 tn?1345468736 If you can, ask your doctor about a medication for migranes called Maxalt. its specifically for migranes and works like a charm. hope you feel better soon.
Avatar n tn They have been increasing in quantity and severity until about a year and a half ago I had to stop working completely. I am on a combination of darvacet, tramadol, topomax and maxalt. The combination leaves me in bed about 18 hours a day. I have had two MRIs. One with contrast and one without. Neither shows any good reason for my pain. The headache never goes away and I have no idea what makes it hit so hard every few days (room blacked out and crawling to the bathroom). Am I the only one.
Avatar n tn By the time I got there she was having seizures and the doctor gave her Maxalt and had called an ambulance. The hospital did numerous tests; blood, urine, CT scan, spinal tap. They couldn't find anything wrong and sent her to a neorologist. He put her on Maxalt and Topomax and ordered an MRI and a sleep deprived EEG. They both came back clear. Three days later she was in the hospital with another migraine and seizures.
Avatar f tn When I was having frequent migraines and my insurance would only pay for one refill of Maxalt each month, I obtained prescriptions for both Maxalt and Relpax and filled both each month. They worked equally well for me.
549637 tn?1316705828 I was on topomax for over 6 months for migraines but I believe it might be partially responsible for putting me into a huge suicidal depression especially since I have been up to 100mg. Should I go off it? My Doctor doesn't believe it is the cause and wants me to take an antidepressant. I have been on several anti-depressant meds and haven't found one that really works for me. The most recent I have been on is Cymbalta and it made me nauseated all the time.
Avatar f tn try a different triptan. imitrex help some. i have added maxalt to my repertoire, and it actually works better then the imitrex. it is worth a shot!
