Common Questions and Answers about How long for asacol to work

asacol

Avatar n tn Thanks for the info...I was getting too anxious for the Asacol to work as this is day 5. I was worried that it could be Crohns Disease as My Brother died from Crohns. My Dr. said my Blood Markers did not show for Crohns...however, I am waiting on test results for Celiac. I appreciate your time, Thank You.
Avatar f tn I started Asacol almost two weeks ago, and it worked very well after a couple of days, but after almost two weeks, I got very weak, dizzy spells, fatigue, like the flu. It's been five days, and most of the time I need to lay down. I couldn't go to work today. When does it stop? I stopped the medication four days ago. It was for colitis.
Avatar m tn Some drugs that work well for some people may not work for others, so it may take time to find a medication that helps you. If diet and lifestyle changes, drug therapy, or other treatments don't relieve your signs and symptoms, your doctor may recommend surgery. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Regards.
Avatar f tn i believe that pentasa is more for management of colitis once it's under control from steroids like once the steroids bring down your flare up u will continue to take pentasa to maintain your colitis control so you could be on it for quite sometime i have never taken pentasa myself thought they have me on salofalk which i believe is for the same thing, just to keep uc under control. not sure if that helped at all but anyways good luck wishing you the best.
277836 tn?1359666174 You need to get this under control ASAP, as it will get worse, if left untreated. Pred may be a necessary evil but only for short-term use. Long term if you do not respond to asacol/ pentasa there other other options eg. azathioprine. I would also recommend avoiding dairy (although you should take calcium suppliments and yoghurt is ok as it is live), seeds, nuts, the skin of fruit and veggies - as this can irritate the colon.
Avatar m tn I've had UC for 18 years so I understand from mans point of view and can't stand thinking from a Women's or child. I first have a quick question, is she taking the Prednezone for the bleeding? I know when I go into a flare and the bleeding is bad I go on a regulated decline dose to 0. Now some start a lot lower than me but I have to start a 70 mg then decrease by 10 mg every three days until it stops.
Avatar m tn My 18 year old daughter spent the last 4 months weening off Pristiq and now feel she really needs something for depression and anxiety. So my question, how long to start feeling the effects of Zoloft? She is starting at 50 mg for a week then moving up to 100mg. Any information would be helpful.. I realize everyone is different, but would like to know some experiences.
Avatar f tn If you are planning on working after you have the baby, it is good to work for as long as possible before the baby comes. here's why--- that time you take off counts toward your short term disability and the family medical leave. There are maximum days associated with both of those and you'd be using them to have the baby early. I worked until close to my due date with my first taking a few vacation days.

Avatar m tn I should have said how long will it for the symtoms to begin to go away?
Avatar m tn m trying to get to work as soon as possible. Anyone can help me out by giving me tips on how to decrease gas and the nausea feeling I am getting. I am on Asacol and take vitamin pills as well.
Avatar n tn eat less carbohydrates; drink less alcohol; eat more vegetables, protein and the right fats; drink raw vegetable juices; take a good liver tonic containing milk thistle to support your liver function; take N Acetyl L Cysteine (NAC) to support production of glutathione in the liver.
Avatar m tn This is a clear criminal act. How come FDA is not allowing the safe to use Mesalazine Enema, which has been used for years in Europe and Canada? I am not certain how I can spread the word so that all UC patients who are suffering can get benefited. Please spread the word and let CCFA know that this drug needs to be made available in US. I have to buy it from UK or Canada at my own expenses. This is outrageous when I am paying so much for insurance. Please advise.
Avatar f tn Good luck to you and I would be happy to keep you posted about how things work out for me. Everyone is different as you know with UC so you may be lucky and not have a flare. Several doctors kept telling me my UC would get better!

I am currently taking ASACOL HD 800mg 2 tabs twice a day.. i also have ulcerated colitis... I have ocasional diarrhea nothing to bad.
277836 tn?1359666174 Okay I am now down to 5 pills a day started at 8 for 2 weeks then 7 for 2 weeks then 6 for one week now 5 for 1 week and on and on. Talked with nurse she is going to get back with me. Problems I am having moderate dirreah 5 times a day or more getting thrush in the back of the throat which is from the medicine I am sure.
Avatar n tn Hi there, I was diagnosed with sigmoidal colitis in 2005, but I reckon that it went unchecked for about 4 years prior to that. I was initially treated with mesalamine (Asacol) but it had no effect. My GI guy then hit me with prednisone and that knocked it down. I have been on Asacol in a prophylactic capacity since (800mg tid). Does it keep me in remission. Maybe, but maybe it is the tremendous quantities of fentanyl, diacetylmorphine and morphine I abused as well for all I know :P.
