Common Questions and Answers about How long before asacol works

asacol

Avatar m tn Has anyone tried Lialda? Does it perform any better than Asacol? How much more is your co-pay for Lialda than Asacol. I want to ask my doc to make a switch.
Avatar f tn Many, many people have taken Asacol without any side effects. I had Ulcerative colitis for 10 years before surgery and never had an issue. The goal is to protect the colon from creating long term damage.
Avatar f tn I have been on it for the last year straight and am not totally sure how much it really works. I had some side effects from it such as nausea and hair loss to a certain extent. The nausea was fixed by taking it at night which seemed to really help. Being on it did not eliminate me from other meds as I am currently back on prednisone 40mg for a month due to a flareup. Pentasa and Asacol never worked for me either. I guess in short every medication works for different people in different ways.
277836 tn?1359666174 Could this be something else besides ulcerative colitis ? How sensitive is this test he had done (false positives) ?I am 33 years old. How bad is it relly going to get if I dont do his method of treatment?
447130 tn?1225470866 I just went back on Abilify since Geodon sent me into another world. I took it before and it worked but I gained weight so they took me off. I can't remember how long it was before it started to make a dent in my BP. I've been manic and this is the 1st time this has happened. Maybe it was the meds? I'm scared because I'm technically not medicated until the Abilify kicks in. Anyone know from experience?
89592 tn?1391274422 Before you take Asacol, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, a stomach condition called pyloric stenosis, a heart condition such as congestive heart failure, or a history of allergy to sulfasalazine (Azulfidine). http://www.drugs.com/asacol.html Before taking Remeron, tell your doctor if you have bipolar disorder, liver or kidney disease, seizures, heart disease, a history of heart attack or stroke, or a history of drug abuse or suicidal thoughts. http://www.drugs.
Avatar m tn I have a NEW G.I. doc who keeps referring me to a colonoscopy and an MRCP before she decides to do anything but I've had a flare-up of UC for a month and need some relief. Today I saw a whole Asacol HD tablet excreted and the G.I.doc said "that's ok--it's still absorbed." Ok--so now I must be reasonable and ask a question as how is it absorbed when NONE OF IT--repeat, NONE OF IT---is degraded at all? This woman doesn't get it. Anyway, what should I do now?
Avatar m tn i was prescribed asacol 2x 400mg, 3 times a day for two weeks. after this time i was also diagnosed with CKD at stage 3a with a GFR of 53 and a creatinine clearance of 87.14ml/min. i took asacol again for one month at a reduced rate of 1x 400mg, 3 times a day (3-4 tablets recommended for prevention of relapse). then i stopped taking it for 2 months. i took asacol again at 1x400mg, 2 times a day for 2 months.
Avatar f tn i believe that pentasa is more for management of colitis once it's under control from steroids like once the steroids bring down your flare up u will continue to take pentasa to maintain your colitis control so you could be on it for quite sometime i have never taken pentasa myself thought they have me on salofalk which i believe is for the same thing, just to keep uc under control. not sure if that helped at all but anyways good luck wishing you the best.

Avatar m tn I have been hospitalized four times in last two years. Finally I met a doctor in UK who prescribed Asacol Foam Enema. I was unable to get into remission for last so many years with all drugs, however, with this foam enema, I got in full remission in just few weeks. I was surprised to find that drug industry that makes Enemas for UC has been dominated by company that makes Rowasa Enema (Israeli Company). I am shocked to find that Rowasa has complete monopoly over this industry.

1869943 tn?1322654497 I had a lot of pain, and waited about 1 month before I went to see a doctor. I have had 3 colonoscopies since April. I was having pain on my right side above my belly button, so the dr. thought it was Crohn's. After the 3rd colonoscopy the dr ruled out Crohn's and said I had UC. I was on steroid for 4 months along with Asacol, Canasa. Every time the steroid was finished my symptoms would come right back. I have not been in remission yet since April.
Avatar n tn I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?
Avatar m tn I have chrons and I'm 18 I totally understand how she feels they told me the same thing I didn't listen I continued to take 10 mg there are so many other ways around 6mp look for a specialist in your area .. trust I found a good one and she switch up my medss and now I'm doing great ..
Avatar n tn Keep in mind the hospital floor that I worked on was full of patients with cdiff. I have never had any problems before and have no family history of IBD. I noticed blood in my stool and saw a GI who did a stool study which came back neg for c diff, he then did a scope which showed pancolitis and upon biopsy showed crypt cell abscesses. That day he started me on Asacol which I had no response to for months. He also did a IBD serology 7 which he says showed that I had ulcerative colitis.
Avatar n tn I had changed from Asacol to Pentasa the week before and the rectal pain had come back-significant burning pain. Went to another doctor and had more bloodwork-borderline IBD tests. Went off Pentasa for a few days in Dec and had severe RLQ pain and right hand pain. Got better after a week back on Pentasa. Had another colonoscopy-essentially negative in late Jan. I continue to have burning pain in my rectum and RLQ and right hand, general fatigue. Stress makes it worse.
Avatar n tn Diagnosed w/ Ulcerated colitus -Asacol prescribed. Have had disease since I was 16 -- I'm now 61. The days and weeks of diahrrea limit my life and activities. Outside of Colostomy, I know there is no cure, but can taking over the counter drugs like acidolphus bring any relief. Taking Immodium Ad only adds to the problem with severe stomach cramps. I know steroid treatment is out there, but not looking forward to side effect.
Avatar m tn The Gastro doc wants to treat me with Asacol, but I am suffering from CKD GFRaround 45%.......I told doc and he said ok entercort would be the alternative. that is also an issue as i am a diabetic I have read that just taking imodium and fiber works quiet often also pepto bismol is this correct, Immodium is what i have been using for the last four years any where from 1/2 a pill per day to 1 pill depending if I have not had a movement for day then i back off until I do.
