as I never heard of these problems with Lantus. Lantus is a 24 hour basal insulin that starts to work in an hour after injected and lasts most of the day without peaking. Also, I have never heard of a Lantus pen but have a call into our local rep to ask. My teenage son has Type 1 diabetes and there is never a dull moment with diabetes, is there.
I am wondering whether this is some hormone related issue ,or whether I have developed some resistance vs humalog so it doesnt work well (and the lantus is too much). I have given up using any alcohol or doing demanding exercise(jogging) for a while becuase they make the matters worse (though i really enjoy exercising).
any suggestions to why this is happening or how i can take care of this would be greatly helpful.

ive tried numerous pills for diabetes over the past 20 years. Efficacy never enough- so we tried lantus.
Is it Lantus? That one is known for stinging, though I don't have the problem with it. Only ideas I have is to try a different site and see if it helps. The belly is actually the best site for absorption, but not sure if it will help the stinging.

But your doctor should guide you in this.
I remember my switch to Lantus. They weight gain is normal because it is a long lasting insulin. Just remember that the more insulin you shoot, the more weight you gain. Try cutting back on your carbs and that will cut down on your Lantus and that will cut down on your weight.
Remember that human insulin, like Lantus, is not like switching from tylenol to advil. There are more significant signs your body will give you.
t know why, but she said that Lantus works better if you give the shots on your tummy and buttox and novolog/humalog (fast acting) works better if given in your legs... anyway, this is a lot of information and if you can, please have him see a Diabetes Educator... al least once! If this low dose of lantus twice daily is working for you without any problems, there is no reason to change it. Lantus is written as once daily but many doctors(including myself) and patients split the dose because even though it is supposed to be "peakless", it is not for some people. At low doses it works especially well as a split dose. Levemir can be used instead, and is more commonly written as twice daily.
The high levels at night are probably happening because the evening Lantus is not truly lasting 24 hours. See if this makes sense to you... Lantus is marketed as a 24-hour insulin, but it doesn't work full force for exactly 24 hours and then -- poof -- suddenly quit. If you read the paperwork in your Lantus box, you will read that it lasts anywhere between 20-24 hours.
t like that. The Lantus is a much longer acting insulin without the drastic peaks which can give you a lot more flexibility. I don't know how long you were on the Lantus before you switched back to the NPH, but your blood sugar swings may not have been totally related to the insulin, since you are still having problems on the NPH. My own preference would be to go back on the Lantus and give it another try. Perhaps eating a smaller snack or taking a littl less Lantus might do the trick.
I just started on Lantus and Humalog and my blood sugars seem to keep going up, I take 30 U at night Lantus and I take Humalog 10 before meals if my bs is 180 or higher, does this sound right, I was diagnosed a Type 2 about 6 years ago, but the Glipizide and Metformin I was taking has been stopped, but my fasting bs has been 270 or higher any suggestions I know control my diet I get that, I also weigh 239 my Dr's say to loose weight, and I am going to try.

One final note: I find it curious that your doctor keeps increasing your Lantus dose even if you are having lows that don't seem to be related to your humalog. Perhaps you need to have a discussion with your doctor to find out why he or she believes that tthis is necessary.
These are called "lantus lows" and it is to do with how the insulin is absorbed. If you continue to have problems you may ask your dr if you can be changed to an alternative long acting insulin such as Levemir (dosed twice a day) or Tresiba (dosed once a day).
I have been on lantus since about 2003, and in 2007 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I ve just been reading how lantus may cause cancer . im afraid the lantus may have caused this. did anyone else have anything like this happen? as well im type1 diabetic and my bloodsugers are really up and down all the time and i take a split dose of lantus. my suger will drop and stay down all day or for hours!
t mention the time of day that she is taking her bath. If it is after dinner (before bedtime), it is likely that her dinner insulin is peaking while she is in the bathtub, bringing her sugar low. You don't say whether the baths happen every night or not. I would be more likely to suspect that the timing of insulin peaking is the problem if it is happening every night.
And yes, do make sure her hands are very dry before you test her.
I have had so much problem with that Lantus Opticlik that my Health Providers will switch me to the Levimere Flex Pen after I use up all the lantus cartridges. Is lantus a better insulin or is Levimere just as good as Lantus using it as a basal 24 Hour insulin???. I get my supplies from the Military Hospital because I am a retired service member and they do not have the lantus solostar flex pen but they do have the levimer flex pen.
The only insulin that I am aware of that cannot be mixed with others is Lantus -- it ALWAYS must be given as a separate shot. But the other insulins can be given by themselves or mixed. It shouldn't change a thing. The reason that they are usually mixed is so the diabetic person only has to have one shot rather than two. Giving them separately should not change the dosage in any way. It is wonderful that your daughter can have this special time with her grandma.
And as for the sweats about a half hour after taking Lantus, there IS a slight peak action with Lantus, although this peak action for most people is several hours after taking the Lantus. In my case, I usually take my Lantus at about 6 am, and I notice a peak that causes my glucose levels to drop by about 8 am. This happens even if I have not taken any Novolog or eaten breakfast (sometimes I wait until I get to work to take Novolog and eat breakfast), so it has to be the Lantus peaking.
Yesterday was told by a nurse that the Lantus I take is really low compared to amount of Humalog I take, but she never told me HOW much she thought I should be taking.
I take 1.5 u Humalog per carb for all meals (for last 3 weeks - has changed many times). I'm supposed to take 11 u Lantus in am. My morning BS is usually 300-500. I think the Lantus is not lasting 24 hours. If I try to split the dose, I'm wondering if I need to just take 5 and 6, or if I need to up the overall dose.
You did not mention how old the bottle of Lantus is that you are using. Lantus comes with instructions saying to not use any "open" bottle longer than one month. My twin and I, both type 1 diabetics and both on Lantus, do notice unpredictable things happening when a bottle is older than one month, or occasionally when a bottle seems to go "bad a little bit before the one month deadline.
