Heartburn causes smoking

Common Questions and Answers about Heartburn causes smoking

heartburn

Avatar m tn it can produce heart disease and cancer is now common knowledge. Many are not aware that smoking also may produce chest pain. Smoking increases the heart rate, blood pressure and work load upon the heart. If there is pre-existing coronary artery disease, but with adequate blood flow at rest, the increased work produced by smoking, as well as the increase in concentration of carbon monoxide carried by the blood in place of oxygen, may be enough to produce chest pain.

Smoking can damage the esophagus, leading to a high incidence of GERD among smokers. In addition to weakening the LES muscle, smoking creates another disadvantage for patients. Under normal conditions, your saliva contains an optimum amount of bicarbonate. Bicarbonate is needed to help neutralize and dissolve stomach acid quickly.
Avatar n tn I have had anxiety that seemed associated with heartburn too. I treated the heartburn with 1/2 tsp of baking soda in 1/2 glass warm water,(it will cause you to burp because it is neutralizing the acid) and the anxiety seemed to lessen.
Avatar m tn Hey everyone. Does anybody else get bad acid reflux from smoking and alcohol? Smoking sometimes bothers me but anytime i drink a few beers it seems to cause alot of reflux but very little actual heartburn. The next day i get this lump feeling in the middle of my throat, i belch, acid comes up and i can sometimes taste it. Drinking water helps and so does taking OTC reflux meds but its sometimes thats just not enough... I also wonder if sleeping with mouth open will cause any throat discomfort??..
Avatar f tn My daughter is a cosmetologist and she told me the topo causes the hair follicles to close. What has fallen out, wont grow back, but the hair loss should stop when you discontinue the drug. The Topo really messed up my cycle too. I think my adrenals took a hard hit from just two weeks on the drug. For me it was not worth it. I was stupid, depressed and started having panic attacks on it. I would loose blocks of time. Huge blocks.

Avatar n tn Does anyone have any idea as to what causes this condition to begin in the first place? I'm very frustrated by suggestions that it "must be stress" in the absence of an obvious physical cause. I know myself well, and stress is not the answer, nor is caffiene, alcohol, etc. Could a virus have triggered this? If so, is this type of condition generally life long, or time limited? I somehow feel either hormones or a virus must be the underlying culprit.
Avatar n tn The underlying cause chest pain can be gastrointestinald disorders that includes ulcers, esophagitis, reflux or heartburn can also produce chest pain. Alcohol, smoking, caffeine and spicy foods may contribute to these symptoms. Bloating from gas, esophagitis, reflux or heartburn can also produce chest pain. Hope this helps, and thanks for sharing.
Avatar f tn Hello, This intermenstrual spotting can be due to hormonal imbalance. Other causes can be hormonal imbalance(can be due to PCOS),hypothyroidism, cigarette smoking or underlying Chlamydia infection while on birth control, ectopic pregnancy. You should get it evaluated from your doctor and start with the treatment if the repeat happens. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.

Avatar n tn A chest x-ray will generally find the serious causes of your cough. The most likely cause of your occasional dry cough while sleeping is irritation of the airways of your lungs from smoking. Perhaps this is combined with breathing dry air through your mouth during sleep. Your cough could also be due to other health problems, such as heartburn, postnasal drip, or sinus problems.
Avatar m tn Nausea is a general symptom and has many possible causes. Do you have any other symptoms? If you are simply feeling nauseous, this can be due to anything including upset stomach, dehydration, stress, ulcer, heartburn, food allergy, etc. As far as saying you have "too much candida," that is also a very general statement. There are a variety of candida infections from vaginal candida to thrush, both of which produce noticeable physical symptoms beyond nausea.
Avatar m tn For the last few days I have had this strong annoying burning in my lower chest, above my stomach. It's like a very strong heartburn. With have been body aches, slight headaches, trouble sleeping. The main part is the feeling in the middle of my chest. Food brings it on worse, but it is this annoying feeling while i'm just sitting.
Avatar n tn In hiatal hernia a part of the stomach sticks upward into the chest and causes chest pain, heartburn, and swallowing difficulty. Your husband’s symptoms can be explained by his hiatal hernia. Treatment aims at relieving the symptoms and preventing complications. Medications for controlling gastro esophageal reflux will be helpful. He should avoid large heavy meals and reduce weight if he is overweight. Avoid smoking. In cases which do not respond to these measures surgery may be needed.

Avatar n tn ) I am not a doctor but I myself, in the past, have noticed that the effects of heartburn can be elevated by smoking. Based on this fact I can presume that air/climate could play some part in stomache related issues. P.S. Since quitting smoking and improving my diet I rarely ever experience heartburn, formerly a problem I dealt with on a daily basis.
Avatar n tn I had a topic about this and my new ENT says it's GERD although without heartburn. My throat is now better since I been on Nexium for 2 weeks. My 2 symptoms are, a feeling as if I have slim or paste in my throat and it causes my to half-way clear my throat and then swallow to clear that but I can't always fully clear it and I have to repeteitely do it constantly.
Avatar n tn Now almost everything I eat causes gas, extreme cramping/pain in the lower left part of my abdomen, sometimes chest pains, and my intestine gets puffy and sticks out whenever I eat.I am scheduled for a colonoscopy in 2 days.Meds to prevent colon spasms has not helped.Sometimes even just a banana causes puffiness and cramping. My doc is convinced I have IBS but my stress level is not high and I exercise regularly. Also, I have never had any problems with any foods, especially milk.
1787041 tn?1315006696 He went to the doctor for a check up about 2 months ago and his primary physician told him he had high blood pressure. He had been smoking for a few years and quick when he was told. At the hospital after this most recent episode the doctors took an X-ray of his heart and told him they saw nothing abnormal there. He was still experiencing pain in his chest and he told me they prescribed him something for the pain called "Buerosen"?
Avatar m tn There can be many causes of chest pain related to your heart, lungs, esophagus, muscles, ribs, tendons, or nerves. Even exercising on full stomach can also cause some discomfort. Angina is a type of heart-related chest pain. Typically stable angina presents with mild chest discomfort precipitated by mild activity like running and walking. Chest pain can also be caused by pleurisy, pneumonia, heartburn, gastroesophageal reflux, gall stones and stomach ulcers.
Avatar f tn Sometimes I'll smell it without being around anyone who's been smoking. It's like I can taste it in my mouth! It really bothers me when it happens. I also get a burning sensation in my esophagus, but I always thought that was just heartburn?
Avatar f tn For the past few months before my endoscopy I have been taking PPI's (Somac) prescribed by my regular doctor for heartburn and nausea symptoms, which he believed was from acid reflux, but guess we have to wait until I get my biopsy results back next week.

Avatar m tn I suffer from anxiety and depression and wanted to know if those could be causes of this weird sensation? I recently quit smoking ciggarettes (1 Month STRONG!) after smoking pretty heavily for 2-3 years. I have smoked marijuana heavily the past 5-6 years and have quit that as well. I recently had an ultrasound looking at my pancreas, liver, and gallbladder, and was diagnosed with a fatty liver. I also had in-depth blood work which came back fine with no flags.
