guaifenesin with dextromethorphan

For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!

Whats with the Mucinex/ robitussin????? I've heard a couple people take this???? I dont know it might be me.... Or just the posts i read?

In the mean time there are some OTC cough meds that are safe. Dextromethorphan, Guaifenesin, halls lozenges, Robitussin (plain), sucrets, Sudafed and Sudafed PE, Tylenol plus, Vicks formula 44, Zinc lozenges. A cup of honey and lemon can be soothing for a cough also .

I've been waking up with a runny nose and a sore throat... which means is about to get bad. Can I take anything to prevent it getting bad?

Many people recommend Mucinex because it doesnt have Dextromethorphan. It only has guaifenesin which is the drug that thins CM. So I hope you ladies do your research before you put all your trust on any drug that "Helps you to conseive"....

You just solely need Guaifenesin as the active ingredient. Also if you do not do well with elixirs you may want to take Mucinex instead. It is Guaifenesin as well in an oral tablet form. You are supposed to use this before you ovulate and not after because Guaifenesin is thought to cross the placental barrier which means your fetus would be exposed to it. I have no clue what affect it has on the fetus.

The other source is the combination of drugs commonly used in over-the-counter cough suppression medicines - Dextromethorphan and Guaifenesin. Not doubt, itching is also the side-effect of other medicines.

I too took Mucinex in November and just got my BFP yesterday and today. With my 2 year old, same thing. My doctor told me that with both of her pregnancies, she was sick and taking Robitussin and that's when she got pregnant. Anyway, I intentionally took it with my 2 year old and got pregnant the first month I tried. But this time, I was genuinely sick and had horrible post-nasal drip with crazy thick mucus, so that's why I took it. And dontcha know...it did it again.

Two days ago I woke up with a slight sore throat and cough. While the sore throat is gone I am still coughing up mucus, have a headache dizziness and at time extremely hot. I do also have a slight ear ache on both sides. I did have diabetes in the past but was able to get off medication because of diet and exercise but have gained a lot of the weight back.

Has anyone ever gotten guaifenesin with codeine prescribe. Want to know feed back on it I'm 12+4 days. Help please trying to get rid of this plhuem I had still. But kinda un sure.

Codeine is a cough suppressant and it works well in cough syrup but not for us addicts. I agree with pharma9. Get some cough syrup with dextromethorphan and guaifenesin and take as directed. Get the Walgreens/CVS brand because it's cheaper and works just as well :) Good for you for not taking that syrup and for declining pain meds. You're being extra vigillant which we HAVE to be. Oh and I've taken percogesic and it's a decent otc pain reliever.

So I currently have a sore throat, and 5 days my doctor gave me dextromethorphan syrup to treat it. I went back today again because my sore throat didn't go away, and a different doctor (in the same clinic) got me this thymol gargle that contained alcohol. The dextromethorphan specifically stated to avoid alcoholic drinks, so can I use both dextromethorphan and the alcoholic throat gargle together?

Guaifenesin, how much is an Overdose? My daughter 11 years old 100 lbs (big for her age), took (the correct dose) 5mL cough and cold medicine that had the following in that dose. Guaifenesin, USP 100 mg, Dextromethorpan HBr, USP 10 mL. Phenylephedrine HCI, USB 5mg. But then she also took (the correct dose) 10 mg of a prescription medicine Guaifenesin-Codeine syrup (generic for Robitussin AC syrup). It doesn't state on the label the quantity of Guaifenesin mg in the 5mL dose.

I do know you only need the plain kind, nothing else should be in it just guaifenesin. If you get the one with that is mixed it can have the opposite reaction. Also you need to drink plenty of water!! YOu have to do this in order for it to work. I just started taking clomid and i read to start the guaifenesin on day 10 till ovulation. On a website for fertility i read that you need to take 200mg three times a day!

yes, well sort of. It's Guaifenesin an ingredient found in cough meds. You can usually find a store brand of robitussin that has only Guaifenesin in it. The ingredient is made to break up mucus, but if taken while you ovulate it can make your CM more compatible with sperm.
