FDA pregnancy category C. It is not known whether dextromethorphan and guaifenesin will harm an unborn baby. Do not use this medicine without a doctor's advice if you are pregnant.
I have a cold, I had to Google guaifenisen and it told me that there were birth defects reported but no clear link to the drug. I decided not to take the risk and just went with acetaminophen and diphidramine separately because even dextromethorphan and phenylephrine (dayquil) is not safe at all.
It has acetaminophen, phenylephrine HCI, dextromethorphan HBr, pain reliever/fever reducer, nasal decongestant, cough suppressant.
Any bad?
For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!

The ingredients are acetaminophen, guaifenesin, and phenylephrine. Will any of those ingredients caus a positive drug or alcohol test?
I recently had a really bad attack which lasted several days When i had a cold and i found that i had a very bad reaction to taking Beechams all in one which contains paracetamol , guaifenesin , phenylephrine & Contac dual relief tablets which contain pseudrephedrine , hydrochloride , paracetamol , I know that i am ok with paracetamol but the other ingrediants in these cause me to have really intense migraines.
ve also had a cough for about the past three weeks, which was dry to begin with, then slightly phlegmy, then treated with a cough medicine that includes suppressant (dextromethorphan), expectorant (guaifenisin) and nasal decongestant (phenylephrine), and then dry again and still comes up every now and then. So I'm also entertaining the possibility of an allergy to the cough medicine which I discontinued after coming out in the rash.
In the mean time there are some OTC cough meds that are safe. Dextromethorphan, Guaifenesin, halls lozenges, Robitussin (plain), sucrets, Sudafed and Sudafed PE, Tylenol plus, Vicks formula 44, Zinc lozenges.
A cup of honey and lemon can be soothing for a cough also .
Were allergic or cold symptoms the reasons you were taking benadryl, dextromethorphan, and phenylephrine?
However, you mention unusual visual symptoms, too, and none of this seems related to any of the drugs you were taking.
In your situation, I'd recommend writing this down:

The only active ingredient is guaifenesin, and it contains 100 mg per teaspoon. It is very important to avoid the versions that contain decongestants as those may dry up cervical mucus. Also, there is some conflicting information about whether dextromethorphan, the DM in some cough medicine names, may be linked to birth defects such as neural tube defects and cleft palate
The recommended dose for improving cervical mucus is two teaspoons (200 mg) taken orally three times per day.
The other source is the combination of drugs commonly used in over-the-counter cough suppression medicines - Dextromethorphan and Guaifenesin. Not doubt, itching is also the side-effect of other medicines.
