graves-disease

Avatar n tn Hello. I'm 36 and I am almost 9 weeks pregnant. I have Graves' disease and had radiation treatment back in 2009. I hadn't been taking my thyroxine constantly for a few months as I was super stressed and now that I am pregnant haven't missed a dose. My thyroid levels are still very high and I'm worried that this will affect my baby's brain development/IQ levels. Has anyone else had similar experiences? I'm scared and worried.
Avatar f tn Im 7 weeks preganant with my first and I have Graves disease which is a thyroid autoimmune disease. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced pregnancy with this disease or something similar??
Avatar f tn Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies to make sure you do, in fact, have Graves disease and are not simply in a hyper phase of Hashimoto's? Both Graves and Hashimoto's are autoimmune. While Graves is always connected with hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's is most often connected with hypothyroidism, however it's not uncommon for one to have periods of hyperthyroidism in the beginning stages. You should ask for thyroid antibody tests.
Avatar n tn If you don't mind. I see you posts starts out as Graves Disease and you are looking for a surgeon? While I would have to do some checking around on this can you post the reason for the removal? - Is it for Graves disease?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with graves disease and had the radioactive treatment to destroy it a few years back. I have had a few times where I did not have my meds for a week at a time. Is it normal to feel so tired and cranky? Also I took Zirtec for my allergies and I felt like I was cloudy and just wanted to sleep and tightness in my chest..... I am currently on 137 mcg of Levothyroxine.
Avatar f tn Hello My daughter is 26yrs old and is pregnant and found out she has Graves disease. I am going crazy, I've never been Depress I am so sad she lost weight .. She just starting to do testts for this and that.
Avatar f tn Graves Disease is never cured BUT it is managed better without a thyroid or after RAI. You still have the antibodies but no thyroid for it to attack. As for meds, you swap one lot for another. You go from anti-thyroid meds to a T4 medication so basically you are on meds for life. The thyroid regulates every organ in your body and if no thyroid, meds have to do the job. Hyperthyroidism is a lot easier to manage without a thyroid.
Avatar n tn Well, I don't have graves disease, but I have hasimoto's. I have NEVER been hyperactive in my life and all of a sudden, during my 1st pregnancy (I ended up loosing it) I became HYPERactive!! So, they just lowered my levothyroxine. I am assuming you do have graves and are having a hyper problem?
Avatar f tn If you decide to become pregnant as an example, that is a huge physical and hormonal stressor to the human body. One of the high risk factors for Graves, is pregnancy. If your Graves returns while you are pregnant, you run serious health risks not only to yourself, but to that of your child as well. If you are taking blocking medications, and the dosage suddenly becomes inadequate, you could be forced for your own safety into a dosage no longer considered safe for unborn children.
Avatar n tn s a possibility that you never had Graves Disease. While Graves Disease is always associated with hyperthyroidism, not all hyperthyroidism is Graves Disease. Hashimoto's is often characterized by periods of hyperthyroidism in the early stages, which later switch to hypothyroidism. Some patients swing back and forth for years, before finally settling into permanent hypo.

Avatar f tn I am a 25 y/o female diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at 16 and later with Graves Disease and Goiter. I have been on Tapazol along with Atenelol (for the Tachacardia) off and on for the past 9 years with no results. Every doc I see wants to discuss nothing but RAI or surgery. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a few years with no success. I finally found out that I was pregnant the beginning of last year and made it to 4 months and suffered a miscarriage for no apparent reason.
Avatar f tn I just went to a new doctor. I saw 2 doctors(endos) they said continue taking these meds and test in 6 weeks. They also agreed that my tests really don't fit Graves disease anymore. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? I had my cortisol tested in August and it was normal 17 after a fast. Maybe it's piuitary related. All I know is I don't feel well at all. Thanks.
Avatar f tn she's had an immune disorder since she was a kid. shes 23 now and has a 4 year old boy. she was diagnosed with an over active thyroid when she was pregnant and graves disease after that. that's what I've been told. all I can go off is what she had said to me so definintly over active not under active.
Avatar f tn I am 27 years old ... have had thyroid problems since pregnant with my daughter almost two years ago! they were watching my thyroid levels prior to that pregnancy though. They say that I have hypothyroidism (thyroid don't work) buut I also have antibodies for graves disease ... although my thyroid jumps from hypo to hyper frequantly ... my question is will I ALWAYS have the antibodies for Graves disease? Makes it possible to get graves disease and most importantly ... is it heretitery?
Avatar f tn My baby girl was healthy!!!I had graves disease its a thyroid disease.. They took her a month early. 6 pound 15 oz. My thyroid was triggered cause of pregnancy and two years later my thyroid went back to normal!! I'm on my second pregnancy and I don't have any problems with it! Hope all goes well for you and your baby.
Avatar n tn Graves is an autoimmune disease and unfortunately for life. Controlling whether they raise or suppress is key to beating the symptoms of the disease. If you are on Levo now - your labs must be abnormal and now lean towards hypoT levels. You would feel like cr@p right now with the swinging patterns you have been on. "Once Graves.... always Graves" is the saying here. But I am positive your endo or ???
Avatar f tn Just recently was the antibodies test was taken to confirm it is indeed Graves. My question is that I am trying to get pregnant, am 35, and going back and forth on which treatment to choose. Please help!
