Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with graves disease and had the radioactive treatment to destroy it a few years back. I have had a few times where I did not have my meds for a week at a time. Is it normal to feel so tired and cranky? Also I took Zirtec for my allergies and I felt like I was cloudy and just wanted to sleep and tightness in my chest..... I am currently on 137 mcg of Levothyroxine.

Avatar f tn Similarly, sarcoidosis of the thyroid gland may develop in response to an established thyroid disorder including Gravesdisease, nodular goiter, and thyroid cancer. Patients with Gravesdisease may also have concomitant conditions of sarcoidosis affecting the lungs. Patients with systemic sarcoidosis may also develop sarcoid lesions in various organs including the thyroid gland.
Avatar f tn My 6 yr old daughter was diagnosed with Graves & did not respond well to Methimazole. We are now on PTU but that is not going well. Surgery seems to be inevitable. Trying to do research on surgeons. Any suggestions? Where is the BEST place for treatment?
Avatar n tn Can you have graves disease so bad that it would seem like bipolar and I thought Graves disease was an overactive thyroid, so how can you be hypro?
Avatar n tn Hello. I'm 36 and I am almost 9 weeks pregnant. I have Graves' disease and had radiation treatment back in 2009. I hadn't been taking my thyroxine constantly for a few months as I was super stressed and now that I am pregnant haven't missed a dose. My thyroid levels are still very high and I'm worried that this will affect my baby's brain development/IQ levels. Has anyone else had similar experiences? I'm scared and worried.
Avatar n tn He was diagnosed with gastroparesis recently. He has a positive small bowel biopsy, intraepithial lymphocytosis. Graves disease runs in the family, paternal grandmother. Please help! He can't go to school and has to quit his beloved soccer. Thank you.

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed in April 2011 with Hashimoto's (the dx came after several different rounds of bloodwork, a thyroid ultrasound and the nuclear uptake scan.) I was prescribed synthroid and was told "we'd have to wait and see" how my symptoms responded to the meds. I would go for labwork every 6-8 weeks and each time, either I had to increase or decrease my synthroid dosage.
Avatar f tn I have had graves disease for 5-6 years now. I take one 10 mg of Methimazole at night time and that is all. I have been very stable on my medicine for years now. I have also been very lucky to not have any problems with my eyes or other symptoms of that nature. I always get concerned when thinking about pregnancy because I want to make sure it is safe for me to conceive. Also, I know that your thyroid can get worse and better during and after pregnancy.
Avatar n tn Regardless of whether you have surgery or RAI, the answer will still be the same. You HAVE to get the levels stable in order to have a good pregnancy with no risk to the foetus. Hyper and Hypo can cause brain function irregularities in foetus's and also miscarraige and stillborn births. But then again, there are people who give birth to beautiful babies being Hypo and Hyper. There has also been pregnancies with women taking PTU whilst pregnant.
Avatar f tn You must still be hyper, if additional treatment is being considered. About 15% of Graves patients will still be somewhat hyper after one dose of I-131 and will need additional treatment. we use surgery fairly frequently for Graves, particularly in younger patients with eye disease. The eyes will often get much better - but may take a year.

"It should be pointed out that, especially in the US literature, the term ‘hashitoxicosis’ is sometimes used to describe an autoimmune thyroid disease overlap syndrome of Graves’ and Hashimoto’s disease. Avatar n tn "The "Ask a Doctor" forum has been shut down since June 2014; MedHelp has not indicated whether or not they plan to reactivate it." - Wikipedia. Excerpt from Hashimoto's thyroiditis following Graves' disease. Acta Med Indones. 2010 Jan;42(1):31-5.... Avatar n tn s an autoimmune disease that unfortunately always plagues you in one shape or another even after the radiated iodine treatment. Since thyroid disease runs in my family, and I have borderline hyperthyroid tendencies, I always keep an eye on the thyroid board on MedHelp. The folks there are very knowledgeable. You may want to pop in there for some advice as well. Both diseases (FM and Graves symptoms overlap) Make sure you stop back in both places. Take care.

Avatar f tn I am glad I found this site, I found out today that I have graves disease, I also have a multinodular goiter and I had a thyroid scan and it showed a cold area, so I have to have a biopsy. I am so scared, I have never really been sick and now all of a sudden I get this. Has anyone had a biopsy on a nodule and how long does it take for the results to get back? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Avatar n tn Thanks for your quick answer. No to question about graves disease. Armour thyroid is for hypothyroid. So are you saying that this would not have any effect?
Avatar n tn I believe the hallmark of Graves Disease or Hashi's is antibodies...however, an upatke scan also helps confirm the disease. My Paternal and Maternal Grandmother's had Graves Disease and my mother has Hashi's...I wound up with Graves Disease but mine showed up at 22...their's did not show until into their 40's...strange little process autoimune thyroid disease is...
