Avatar n tn Sadly, there can be significant early death with these patients. As mentioned in my last posting, surgery involves not only fixing the defect inside the heart, but making the larger pulmonary arteries smaller. Sometimes airway intervention is needed, as well, to improve respiratory status. Not infrequently, these children can have prolonged ventilator courses post-operatively; some even require a tracheostomy. However, as much as 75% of these babies survive their surgical repair.
Avatar n tn Thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulins (TSI) can be detected in the majority of patients (77.8%) with Graves' disease. These antibodies have also been associated with a small portion (15.9%) of patients with toxic multinodular goiter.[2007 by Laboratory Corporation of America] They will not be found among the patients who are hyperthyroid due to the thyroid inflammation.
Avatar n tn Hello. I'm 36 and I am almost 9 weeks pregnant. I have Graves' disease and had radiation treatment back in 2009. I hadn't been taking my thyroxine constantly for a few months as I was super stressed and now that I am pregnant haven't missed a dose. My thyroid levels are still very high and I'm worried that this will affect my baby's brain development/IQ levels. Has anyone else had similar experiences? I'm scared and worried.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with graves disease and had the radioactive treatment to destroy it a few years back. I have had a few times where I did not have my meds for a week at a time. Is it normal to feel so tired and cranky? Also I took Zirtec for my allergies and I felt like I was cloudy and just wanted to sleep and tightness in my chest..... I am currently on 137 mcg of Levothyroxine.
Avatar f tn And occasionally sarcoidosis of the thyroid gland occurs in association with Gravesdisease and less commonly in patients with toxic multinodular goiter. In addition sarcoid lesions may occur as cold thyroid nodules and be mistaken for thyroid cancer. Sarcoidosis has been found to be associated with T-cell activation. Consequently, sarcoidosis is suspected of developing as an inflammatory response to a single provocation, which can be another disease.
Avatar n tn Excerpt from Medpage Today - Full Thyroid Removal May be Best in Graves' Disease... "Removing the whole thyroid lessens the chance of hyperthyroidism recurrence in Graves' disease compared with partial thyroidectomy, but it also leads to increased temporary hypoparathyroidism, researchers found." "Overall, they evaluated four trials totaling 674 patients with Graves' disease -- 342 of whom had total thyroidectomy, 332 who'd had subtotal thyroidectomy.
Avatar n tn I am a 40 year old male diagnosed with Graves Disease in 2002. I recently suffered my third bout with Vertigo in 1 1/2 years. I had blood work done last week that determined my TSH levels were low as well as B-12. Has anyone ever experienced this? Are the two related in any way?
Avatar f tn I am glad I found this site, I found out today that I have graves disease, I also have a multinodular goiter and I had a thyroid scan and it showed a cold area, so I have to have a biopsy. I am so scared, I have never really been sick and now all of a sudden I get this. Has anyone had a biopsy on a nodule and how long does it take for the results to get back? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn Hi goolarra, Thank you so much for your response. I had also posted another question about this problem on this thread & got a couple responses from Barb135. I thought the first post was to a doctor, then realized it wasn't, so I reposted it again in another thyroid area thinking it was the doctor area, but found out that there are no doctors monitoring this forum. Sorry, I was confused & that's why I had made the 2 posts.
Avatar n tn Can you have graves disease so bad that it would seem like bipolar and I thought Graves disease was an overactive thyroid, so how can you be hypro?
Avatar m tn This explains why Graves’ patients with very high TSI levels can have mild symptoms and Gravespatients with moderate TSI levels can have severe symptoms. It’s suspected that there are several subtypes of TSI. Presumably, these subtypes determine the type of epitopes or binding sites on the TSH receptor that TSI can bind to. TSI may bind to epitopes that result in stimulation of thyroid cells or they may bind to epitopes that are less potent.
1081992 tn?1389903637 FDA approves new drug for chronic lymphocytic leukemia in patients with a specific chromosomal abnormality http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm495253.htm April 11, 2016 The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved Venclexta (venetoclax) for the treatment of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) who have a chromosomal abnormality called 17p deletion and who have been treated with at least one prior therapy.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed in April 2011 with Hashimoto's (the dx came after several different rounds of bloodwork, a thyroid ultrasound and the nuclear uptake scan.) I was prescribed synthroid and was told "we'd have to wait and see" how my symptoms responded to the meds. I would go for labwork every 6-8 weeks and each time, either I had to increase or decrease my synthroid dosage.
Avatar f tn It should be pointed out that, especially in the US literature, the term ‘hashitoxicosis’ is sometimes used to describe an autoimmune thyroid disease overlap syndrome of Graves’ and Hashimoto’s disease.2 In this article the term is strictly limited to the ‘leakage’ symptoms of active Hashimoto’s disease.
199177 tn?1490498534 My husband was diagnosed with graves disease this last week .He sees the endocrinologist Monday is there anybody that can help me understand this and are the partiular questions he needs to be asking the doctor .
Avatar f tn I see that you have Graves Disease. Do you, also, have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis? Some people do have them both. Do you still have your thyroid? While some people do very well taking Iodine, it's not usually recommended for those of us with Hashimoto's, unless under the very strict supervision of your doctor. I'm not sure about Graves disease, but I'd not take iodine without doctor supervision, since most people get enough in the foods they eat, via the salt.
Avatar f tn t know much about it other than what my doctor has told me in reference to my autistic seven-year-old son. After many blood tests, his geneticist discovered he is missing part of his 2 chromosome which, in studies, has been linked to autism. Any thoughts?????

Avatar f tn And doctors do not believe anything I say about what has been going on with my body, my symptoms, and my weight. With the weight gain from graves and graves; eye disease..I do not want to be seen or go out and run into people.
1445110 tn?1388209711 I was wondering if I read this correctly or remember it right that 68% of childern of a parent or parents with thyroid disease have the chance of having it also. My boys are now in their 20's but I think I am starting to see some symptoms. I also am thinking it could just be me being paranoid since I have had such a hard time with Graves and Hashimotos. My brother also has Graves and many relatives in the family. Just wondering if anyone knows if that information might be true.
