iam apatient who suffers graves disease. My question is : Although I am almost 4 months on Carbamizole treatment 60 mg + Taking inderal ( propanalol), but the levels of my T4 & T3 are still high and the levels of TSH is less than 0.01.
what do you think , should i sstop the medication and think of the other allternatives like the radioactive iodine or surgical removal?
My mother has graves disease and went through the RAI. It caused her to have the Graves Eye Disease, and left her open to other autoimmune diseases. She has lupus now and really bad arthritis. I know we are two different people, but she is only 50 and just had a hip replacement. I dont want to end up like my mother. I have been trying everything to get as healthy as I can. I started running 6 months ago, but they made me stop because of my heart rate.
I found an article online of a study done in Italy where (and I'm going off a foggy memory) where they performed IV Methylprednisone (pulse therapy) for 3-5 weeks and over 87% showed significant long-term improvement. There was only 25 patients in that study, but, I am a 42 year old male diagnosed when I was 24 and I still have the inflammation around the eye lids and some minor proptosis. Health and nutrition is excellent, I'd like to "get back to normal".
I was diagnosed with Graves Disease approximately 10 years ago and have been treating it and dealing with it fairly well. I have even gone off maintenance meds (methimozole) was on very low dosage, did not respond well after a long time. Recently was put on PTU and it has been suggested that I do Radioactive Iodine Therapy or Thyroid Surgery even though I am responding to PTU positively. I am on 150 mg a day and it is said that might be lowered to 100mg/day.
My daughter was diagnosed with Graves on June 4th. She is 6. Luckily, I'm a teacher and have been able to stay at home with her the past couple of months to get this under control. I feel like our lives have been turned upside down. We started out with a sore throat and a diagnosis from an ENT of Thyroiditis......We ended up seeing a pediatric endocrinologist in an emergency visit because of her heart rate. We've been on methimazole since.
I finnaly got in to the Endocrinologist i was told i have graves disease i was given the option to do pill therapy or I-131 i talk with both my sisters (both have graves) both did the pill therapy with no sucsess so i decided to do the radioiodine treatment will i have to do the iodine tretment again? i was given a very low dose both my sisters say thier dose was much higher. is it also normal to be put on Prednisone after the treatment?

Graves is an autoimmune disease and unfortunately for life. Controlling whether they raise or suppress is key to beating the symptoms of the disease.
If you are on Levo now - your labs must be abnormal and now lean towards hypoT levels. You would feel like cr@p right now with the swinging patterns you have been on.

I have been going to an Endocrinologist for almost 1 year. He has done several ultrasounds showing that I have 5 tumors on my thyroid. I have a biopsy which showed they were benign. I recently had another ultrasound which showed one of the tumors had shrunk but another one appeared.
Hyperthyroidism lists fatigue as a symptom. This can be due to insomnia and difficulty sleeping, a rapid pulse, and/or higher blood pressure.
Conventional treatment options for Graves' disease include:
* Anti-thyroid medication:
In the US:
- Methimazole [brand name Tapazole]
- Propylthiouracil [PTU]
Approximately 30% with Graves' disease will have a remission after prolonged treatment with anti-thyroid drugs.
Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies to make sure you do, in fact, have Graves disease and are not simply in a hyper phase of Hashimoto's? Both Graves and Hashimoto's are autoimmune.
While Graves is always connected with hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's is most often connected with hypothyroidism, however it's not uncommon for one to have periods of hyperthyroidism in the beginning stages.
You should ask for thyroid antibody tests.

While I would have to do some checking around on this can you post the reason for the removal? - Is it for Graves disease?
Has your doctor told you, you have Graves Disease? Yes, your TSH is extremely low and your FT4 is extremely high, indicating that you are hyper, but your antibody tests indicate Hashimoto's. TSI is the definitive test for Graves Disease and I don't see that listed.
Have you been put on antithyroid med?
