Avatar f tn Thyroid inferno refers to the colour Doppler appearance of the thyroid gland in active Graves disease (inclusive of variants such as Marine Lenhart syndrome), and consists of multiple small areas of colour flow seen diffusely throughout the gland representing increased vascularity and arteriovenous shunting.
Avatar f tn Yes it is possible to have more than one autoimmune disease and there is an organization dedicated to researching multiple autoimmune diseases, MADGC or Multiple Autoimmune Disease Genetics Consortium. Interesting to look at the website, because Graves Disease and MS are 2 of the 5 diseases listed under "Do any of these diseases run in your family?" http://www.madgc.org/madgc/WhatIsMADGC.
Avatar f tn Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies to make sure you do, in fact, have Graves disease and are not simply in a hyper phase of Hashimoto's? Both Graves and Hashimoto's are autoimmune. While Graves is always connected with hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's is most often connected with hypothyroidism, however it's not uncommon for one to have periods of hyperthyroidism in the beginning stages. You should ask for thyroid antibody tests.
929504 tn?1332585934 Just googled it as a big fan of baseball here in Australia and am friends with George Lombard and Pookie Wilson who played here a few years ago. Seems Hyperthyroidism is the issue but at first they thought he had taken a growth hormone because of the TSH being low. Also says hes had it for a few years so who knows? I just hope he gets it treated. Says nothing about Graves Disease and they usually test for that with Hyperthyroidism. Maybe he has it and was in remission.
Avatar n tn Have been combing the sites to find where I fit in. Have Graves Disease. Had RAI nearly 6 wks. ago. It has been complicated by several gallbladder attacks. Can't get gallbladder removed until thyriod levels come down. Endo put me on PTU. He doubles my dose from 300mg to 600mg after two weeks. With each blood test my levels kept rising. One test showed my WBC to be very low. So Edno takes me off PTU completely.
Avatar f tn hi I have recently seen my doctor about 2 lumps on either side of my neck, he done blood tests which he said were basically fine, I am now having blurred vision and the lumps are causing uncomfortable ache in the back of my head, I have read about graves disease and many of the symptoms I have, could the doctor have missed graves disease?
Avatar f tn m sorry to hear that. Losing a loved one is never easy, and words are generally just...words. hopefully in time you can come to peace with George's passing.

Avatar f tn Lol. I love the comment above. I agree! My hubby wants to name our little man George and i keep telling him i cant picture myself yelling "George get your finger out of your nose"!
Avatar f tn Jen, first of all dont let the doctor scare you. What was the % for 24 hour scan? The TSI antibodies are present in 90% of the patients which help to discriminate between Grave's and nodular toxic goiter; in many cases the Grave's disease results in uniform and symmetrical thyroid swelling, http://static.*************.org/v/0.11.3.0.6833.29/images/comprofiler/plug_profilegallery/11459/pg_1727852508.
Avatar f tn Check with your doctor as well, I wish I knew if you could take them when you're pregnant.
Avatar n tn Can you have graves disease so bad that it would seem like bipolar and I thought Graves disease was an overactive thyroid, so how can you be hypro?
Avatar f tn Most thyroid disease in the developed world is autoimmune, either Hashimoto's thyroiditis (hypo primarily, although in early stages it can be characterized by swings from hypo to hyper) or Graves' disease (hyper). Basically, neither is treated until symptoms present themselves. When we have autoimmune thyroid disease, our immune systems create antibodies against thyroid tissue becasue they see it as "foreign" protein.
Avatar f tn I want to ask your opinion on a book called GRAVES DISEASE practical guide by Elaine Moore. And were r you located??
Avatar n tn Graves is an autoimmune disease and unfortunately for life. Controlling whether they raise or suppress is key to beating the symptoms of the disease. If you are on Levo now - your labs must be abnormal and now lean towards hypoT levels. You would feel like cr@p right now with the swinging patterns you have been on. "Once Graves.... always Graves" is the saying here. But I am positive your endo or ???
Avatar n tn I need help.I have an obese 8 year old siamese cat that underwent intestinal surgery last week for an obstruction. He ate my baby's bath toy- alphabet letter made of foam. The surgery went well as the foam was already in the colon and was "milked" out. I brought "George" home the next day due to the impending hurricane-IKE. George did well the first two days and then began vomiting bile. He was unable to eat, pass stool or keep anything down.
Avatar f tn "In conditions of chronic urticaria, thyroid antibodies are not only indicators of chronic inflammation, but they appear to play a role in the disease process. In most cases, improvement of urticaria with thyroxine replacement hormone suggests that chronic thyroid inflammation may initiate a hypersensitivity reaction and an underlying thyroid hormone deficiency. However, rarely, patients with chronic urticaria have undiagnosed conditions of Graves' disease.
