glucose

Avatar n tn At 126 mg/dl and above preprandial (fasting glucose) you would be considered Diabetic Type II. Since you didn't provide us with your preprandial level or an A1c (HbA1c, HGBA1c) results its hard to say where you stand. My blood sugar was still high 2 hours after eating.." This is normal. Glucose (blood sugar) peaks 2-4 hours after a meal. However, "going over 200 mg/dl quite often" is not normal. You should aim for <180 mg/dl after meals. Better nutrition is the goal.
Avatar n tn I believe a blood sugar of 16 is an emergency--did his doctor provide him with quick disolving glucose tablets or some other advice in dealing with very low sugar levels? The flickering vision should also be checked out. If these conditions persist you may want to think of calling 911 or taking him to the emergency room. Please let us know how your husband is doing over the next day or so.
Avatar m tn There was just a report on the news last week that statins have been linked top type II diabetes. My wife is on 80mg of Simvastatin while I'm on 20mg. Coincidence or not, we both contracted type II in recent years. I believe that the benefits pf statins outweigh the risks and have altered my eating lifestyle so to nearly exclude carbohydrates. This has enabled me to continue statin regime while keeping my fasting blood glucose levels at acceptaptable unmedicated levels.
Avatar m tn Glucovance is a well accepted medication used for Type 2 diabetes and will most likely help bring her glucose levels down. Changing dietary habits is crucial to doing well: specific things to avoid include regular sodas, sweet drinks such as sweetened tea and juices, cakes, cookies, candies etc. Try to keep carbohydrates(starches) more complex instead of simple, for instance wheat bread instead of white, brown rice instead of white.
Avatar n tn that diabetes may go from type II to type I meaning that in time even though at first your pancreas was producing insuline this "production " stops at one time. Is this true ?
Avatar n tn I believe if you are in the low range and change your lifestyle reversing diabetes type ii is obtainable, if diagnosed early. My sister is the latest. This past September her fasting glucose was in the 130-140 mg/dl range. She is now below 95 mg/dl fasting and 145 mg/dl postprandial. Everyone caught their diabetes early and were able to reverse it.
Avatar f tn The most common types of diabetes are Type 1 and Type 2. Which type are you? Basically, Type 1 diabetes are hereditary, genetically transmitted from parents to offspring. Normal treatment would be a daily doze of insulin. Type 2 on the other hand, is more on lifestyle (sedentary - without regular exercise), eating habit or being overweight, etc. Normal treatment would be regular exercise, well balance diet with some minor medication as prescribe by a doctor.
Avatar n tn However, given your age and the fact that you are no longer overweight, please be sure and have your doctor test to make sure you are in fact Type II and not LADA/Type 1.5. Fifteen percent of us who were diagnosed Type II are in fact LADA (which is an autoimmune disorder and closer to Type I). The tests to do would be C-peptide to see how much insulin your body is producing and GAD65 which confirms if you have antibodies (Type II's do not, as it is not autoimmune).
Avatar f tn There are a lot of misunderstandings in your post and you really should speak to an endocrinologist. Type II diabetes does not "turn into" Type 1, though some people (myself include) are initially misdiagnosed as Type II when they are in fact LADA/Type 1.5 or just Type 1. GAD antibodies, as Waverider says indicate Type 1 (or 1.5). They do not exist in Type IIs. You don't "reduce your GAD antibodies", all the GAD does is indicate type.
183933 tn?1290216962 m very exctied, however, she was diagnosed with type II D when she was only 5-6 weeks pregnant. Her OB took her A1C levels and it was 5.8. However, in the weeks since, I know her levels have been generally ranging inbetween 117-150 after meals. After reading on the web I saw that in the first trimester if levels are not under control there could be major physical/mental problems with the baby(ies). My OB confirmed the same thing, but he said if levels are in tight control it should be fine.
Avatar n tn Now a dx of Diabetic Type II has been made based on a 3-hour Glucose Tolerance Test. Told that Dr a year ago there was more going on that merely Thyroid and Perimenopause. Was I ever right! Turns out that in an overview of regular blood tests, I don't indicate any problems. Because of that, he turly believed nothing would be found abnormal. Fasting blood glucose is still in the Normal range despite it takes 3 hours on the GTT for my glucose to get back to a normal level.
Business man2 What type of diabetes do you have? Type I or Type II? Basically, they both require a low glycemic diet, but weight loss is more difficult with type II than with type I, because of the possibility of other conditions, accompanying it.
Avatar n tn m a 29 year old male in relatively good shape (work out a fair amount, but I could lose a five or so pounds), and a recent blood chemistry exam I took as part of my life insurance qualification showed that my glucose levels were 5mg/dl. Is that possible considering that the normal range is 70-125 and according to everything I've read online, levels below 20 can lead to unconsciousness? All my other readings--cholesterol, tryglyc, blood pressure, etc.--came back normal to optimal.
118225 tn?1278654940 order another glucose test about 12 weeks after you deliver. They often fail to diagnose type II diabetes until several years later. GD can definately lead to it. Took me 6.5 years after my son was born to realize I had type II now. It couldve been caught and under control a lot earlier. So stay on a good routine and stay on your dr!.
1925135 tn?1323307656 Taking supplements will not help control or lower your glucose levels nor reverse diabetes. Your first step is to do what asok mentioned.
Avatar n tn My Doctor told me (Type II) that I needed to get my A1C under 7.0. I am currently at 6.5 and with my weight loss, he is slowly cutting me back from medications.
Avatar n tn Hi Karen, I am a Type I Diabetic and not a health professional. It seems that your daughter has been diagnosed with Type II diabetes. Without knowing more about her situation: her blood glucose numbers and other factors, it would be hard to determine whether or not the doctor made the best choice by putting her on medication. Type II diabetes can be treated with diet and excercise but that's not always the case.
Avatar f tn m in a position to I will take a nap. I asked my doctor to give me a test for either hypoglycemia or diabetes II (as my grand father had this) but he refused. He said I wasn't heavy enough and more than likely my condition was down to my "low" iron count ( he said 17 it should be 20??). Any ideas what this could be down to?? I tend to need to urinate ALL the time, I don't perticularly drink loads but normal amount I would say. Any help would be most appreciated.
1310035 tn?1305621642 If the lab tech said something like "insulin resistant." Most doctors have stopped calling it insulin resistance and they refer to it an "metabolic syndrome." It has a few diagnostic indicators: elevated fasting glucose, elevated hemoglobin A1C, waist > 40" in males or >35" in females, decreased levels of HDL, etc. I don't remember the whole list. It is normally considered "pre-Type 2 Diabetes.
728239 tn?1265137327 Doctors may prescribe oral medicines (those taken by mouth), insulin, or a combination of both, as needed. People with type 2 diabetes may not need to take diabetes medications if they can reach glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol goals through meal planning, eating the right foods, and physical activity. Drugs. Understand your diabetes medication. Understand the side effects and interactions, if any, with any medication or supplement that you may be taking.
Avatar f tn is this common practice for people with diabetes? Are those numbers that endocrinologist usually use for ppl with type II? My father says he checks his sugar before he eats and uses those results. What are the levels that doctors hope to achieve with people with type II?
Avatar m tn I am a Viet Nam veteran that has Type II diabetes and sleep apena. The V. A has given me a disability for diabetes caused by exposure to agent orange. My question is in your opinion could my diabetes have caused the sleep apena?
Avatar n tn I'm a type II diabetic diagnosed this year with food allergies: corn, peanuts, soybeans, eggs and lettuce and various things in those families. That puts a great many "health" and low fat foods off my list and diabetic staples like eggs are a fond memory. I can't find any information out there to help me balance these evils (diabetes and allergies) against each other.
