If either one lets glucose levels run high, then complications such as kidney damage or eye damage or nerve damage can happen. But both should be equally able to keep glucose levels close to the normal range if they test often and take appropriate medications. The outcome truly depends on the patient's own hard work. Studies have shown a direct correlation between the risk of complications and the diabetic person's control over his or her glucose levels.
Your doctor may have introduced a higher dosage to see if you and the higher dose can stabilize and/or lower your glucose levels. Doctors normally introduce higher dosage when they see a patients levels elevate or remain at high levels.
Please do not depend on medication alone to control or lower your levels. They don't, meds are there to "help" you. You must make lifestyle changes in order to control and manage your diabetes.

Hi. So, the exact number for everyone as to fasting glucose level and what they'd see after 3 hours after eating is unique. There is a 'range' of normal. between 70-126 is the number range that many doctors use. But this is for fasting glucose levels only. After meals, it is normal for glucose levels to rise above this, and the numbers quoted as 'normal' vary, depending on which doctor you talk to. I have read that a number of about 140-150 is considered healthy for after-meal sugar levels.
Their fasting glucose levels were in the range of 160-180 mg/dl. I believe if you are in the low range and change your lifestyle reversing diabetes type ii is obtainable, if diagnosed early. My sister is the latest. This past September her fasting glucose was in the 130-140 mg/dl range. She is now below 95 mg/dl fasting and 145 mg/dl postprandial. I have had my TSH levels tested before and all three times they have been 1.7-1.9. My doctor refuses to look into this, he put me back on ferrous sulphate as he says my HB is borderline? Before meals, a range of 70-126 is considered normal. After meals, glucose levels up to 140-something are considered normal. Your little one was probably crying so hard when his glucose levels were low because he felt bad... when glucose levels drop below about 70, we feel pretty awful. The high reading over 200 certainly is way above where the normal level should be, so I agree that he should be checked by a pediatrician.
My glucose level was 103 in February 2011 without fasting which was within the range of 85-120. May 30 2011 I ended up in the ER due to a gallbladder attack. My glucose level was 115 which was high since the range used was 65-99. A week later the surgeon repeated the tests to prepare me for surgery. The glucose level was 86 which was normal since the range used was 65-99. Three days ago my blood was drawn an hour or less after eating.
Hi Sally, my fasting glucose readings have bounced around in the pre-diabetic range for the past several years, with the highest being 126, I think. I've had several A1c tests, with results ranging from 5.5 to 5.9. My doctors (both primary and endocrinologist) have said these results are okay and don't require treatment of any kind.
I've tried controlling glucose levels with diet and exercise - sometimes it works, sometimes not.
140 is the American measure.
