The strain should ease up in a few days, and in the meantime, don't put him through any particularly strenuous, or athletic movements. Just gentle exercise, like walking. t do any harm is to start her on Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplements. This really works, and is completely natural. (if the arthritis is not TOO bad, the Glucosamine/Chondroitin can work wonders)
You could ask your vet's advice about this, and about the correct dosage (I would give her the maximum for her weight.) But ask advice first.
After discovering that my arthritis is linked to a 'stealth pathogen' (tiny mocroscopic organism) that became active after a surgery, it could be that the surgery exposed you to something - it may not necessarily be the implants. I take anti-inflammatory (boswellia serrata, turmeric, sea buckthorn oil) supplements for pain and glucosamine with chondroitin for my joints. Juicing vegetables also helps.

5 pound schnauzer and has been limping a bit after exercise. I have started giving her 500 mg of glucosamine a day and wanted to know if this is the right dosage?
My lab started limping really bad. I went to human vitamin store and got her some glucosamine supplements. I got the liquid flavored glucosamine and the glucosamine soft flavored chew. I know some cannot swallow pills. My dog eats the chews if I slightly warm them. She will not touch the liquid. I would rather put a pill in some meat or something. It is much easier for her to take. I put her back on a food with glucosamine and she isnt having any problems.

Glucosamine and chondroitin are part of normal cartilage. Cartilage acts as a cushion between the bones in a joint. When these supplements first became available they were even suggested by physicians.
Many people take glucosamine and chondroitin, alone or together, for osteoarthritis. Some people believe this helps - and I am delighted you are one of them.
I'm not sure about what surgery odds are. Does your vet think that joint supplements, weight reduction maybe with a special food at first and then gradual excercise would help? I know things like glucosamine and missing link can be helpful. I also believe German shepherds are prone to hip dysplasia if I remember right. An orthopedic bed and keeping your dog sleeping indoors may also help.
