His front leg angles out at the middle joint, and is very painful to him. I tried DVM Feline Joint Gel two years ago, but stopped because he would throw up after taking it. Our vet says you can't give a cat pain meds because it affects their kidneys. I've been giving him massages, and he loves it, but cries when I pick him up

m taking Ameriden Olive Leaf Extract - 6 caps a day, I was instructed to take only this brand. Plus Glucosamine 1500mg 3 X a day and hyaluronic acid (cushions joint) 100mg 3X a day. My dog weighed 28-30lbs and the correct dose for her was 500mg Glucosamine per day. The vet said the 'human' Glucosamine was fine to use, so long as the dosage was correct for the dog's weight.
So it depends what your dog's weight is, how much you can increase the dose.
As far as I can make out, dogs (and humans too) respond differently to Glucosamine. With some there are great results, and with some, not much improvement.
You could mention this to your vet perhaps.
I do, but it's, alas, very expensive. I take Inflazyme Forte by American Biologics. If you look on the internet you can find the lowest price, and they make a huge bottle that costs about 90 dollars. I take them because of chronic disc problems and a bad knee.

It is very common for dogs 13 years or so to have degenerative joint disease (arthritis). The parts are just wearing out. The problem can occur anywhere there are joints in the body, which include her spine, hips, knees, ankles, feet, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and even in her tail. Lyme disease can contribute to joint pain and should be checked often and treated if necessary.
I also have arthritis in my fingers, which is getting worse. A friend advised me to take glucosamine but considering it is made from the shells of sea creatures I wonder whether it contains iodine. Does anyone know if it would effect the thyroxine?
There are a number of possible reasons for this to happen, though really only a doctor can diagnose you. I would look into taking glucosamine pills for now to help with joint pain and see if it helps at all. I'd make another doctor's appointment to get your hand looked at and see what they say. It could be from a genetic condition, from trauma, or from a malformation in growth, among some other possible reasons. I hope you can get some answers soon.
m not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. N-acetyl glucosamine is prescribed because of joint pain, I believe. There is no direct evidence I can find which shows a causation between n-acetyl glucosamine and lower blood sugars. Likely the lower insulin requirements you're seeing are because your son's body is under less stress, so his blood sugars are lower.
