Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine hcl human

glucosamine

Avatar f tn He may not have the enzymes to utilize the Glucosamine like he did before the gastric tube. Glucosamine Hcl is cheaper and it is harder for the body to utilize than the higher quality Glucosamine sulfate. With that being said, Glucosamine sulfate is commonly use in people who have GI problems because it helps to protect the mucus membranes and heal injuried tissue. It is a very important supplement in IBS, Chrones disease, ulcers etc., I feel really bad for you and your dad.
Avatar n tn My lab started limping really bad. I went to human vitamin store and got her some glucosamine supplements. I got the liquid flavored glucosamine and the glucosamine soft flavored chew. I know some cannot swallow pills. My dog eats the chews if I slightly warm them. She will not touch the liquid. I would rather put a pill in some meat or something. It is much easier for her to take. I put her back on a food with glucosamine and she isnt having any problems.
Avatar m tn My dog weighed 28-30lbs and the correct dose for her was 500mg Glucosamine per day. The vet said the 'human' Glucosamine was fine to use, so long as the dosage was correct for the dog's weight. So it depends what your dog's weight is, how much you can increase the dose. As far as I can make out, dogs (and humans too) respond differently to Glucosamine. With some there are great results, and with some, not much improvement. You could mention this to your vet perhaps.
675347 tn?1365460645 I read an article a few weeks ago about giving the human glucosamine to dogs, the person writing the article was not a vet but a knowledgeable expert in dog breeding. They said that the vet and pet store glucosamine is not as good because it contains a lot more salt than the human form.
1093971 tn?1257833640 Not all glucosamine products are created equal. In order to best evaluate a product, you need to consider several things. When your healthcare and joint discomfort is at stake, take a moment and consider these criteria: What form is the glucosamine in? What is the total daily dose? Are there any other ingredients? What type is the glucosamine? How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame.
Avatar n tn Hello there, The protocol that your dog is currently on is excellent, so please continue. Glucosamine would be an excellent addition to the protocol. Due to your dog's digestive issues it may be best to use an injectable version such as: Adequan. Adequan is available be prescription by your vet. It can be given at home by injection with instruction by your vet. Giving an injection is not difficult, for instance ; millions of pet owner give injections to their diabetic pets twice daily.
Avatar m tn Have a bad headache and no pain meds at home. Have a little of the Buprenorphine hcl left from when my cat was neutered. It was given to him orally at a dose of 0.3cc. I looked it up and it looks like a "human" drug also, but am wondering if I am able to take this. I do hae a little chronic bronchitis, but not full blown copd i don't think. What do you think? Could I take this. Should I add to water or put under my tongue,.
Avatar f tn Will my 12 year old yellow lab/siberian die because he ate 12 tabs Glucosamine Chondroitin for dogs from Trader Joes, 250 m g ea??
1388999 tn?1370042814 I was giving Shane glucosamine forte 1500 one human dose a day 1500 upped after a month to two a day helped maybe a bit but worried I was giving him too much and not much result. He was very active in his younger years and still tries to be.sneaks off to the dam and when he comes back into a hot shower with me as he seizes up and takes a long while to get up so swimming not so good.
Avatar n tn It's OK to give "human" grade Glucosamine and Chondroitin to dogs. But you seriously need to watch out for any additives in the capsules or tablets. Artificial sweeteners, Xylitol, sugars, or any other additives, and I would say no -don't give them that stuff. Toxic for them. However, the basic Glucosamine/Chondroitin is EXACTLY the same substance whether for humans or dogs. The difference is -the price. My vet told me that.
6669309 tn?1462648142 Arthritis is very common in older dogs and the longer dogs live the more common it is becoming. Nutritional supplements Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate are two substances that have fast become the standard treatment in canine age-related arthritis. These are often sold as a single combined substance in good pet shops and quality supermarkets. Alternatively, just look up "Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate for dogs" on Google and you should find a supplier.
441382 tn?1452810569 I had the same question a while back, in the Spring. Misty had been showing a bit of possible arthritis in her right hind leg which was broken once. I asked the vet about this because I didn't want to pay premium prices for a "pet brand" Glucosamine, and he said Glucosamine is exactly the same substance, whether it's formulated in a preparation for dogs, or people. And Chondroitin is the same. I believe they are both natural substances obtained from shellfish.
Avatar f tn s arthritis or just joint pain with age. May I give him a small dose of human motrin....or??? What do you suggest? He is a bit overweight so am trying to manage that also.
Avatar m tn 5 pound schnauzer and has been limping a bit after exercise. I have started giving her 500 mg of glucosamine a day and wanted to know if this is the right dosage?
161647 tn?1280608163 The only thing I can think of was that my mom started taking Glucosamine last year. Can the Glucosamine affect eye vision. Or does anyone have any suggestions. My mom is worried that there is something seriously wrong because the doctor said the next step is too see a retina specialist. Thanks for any advise.
Avatar f tn I also buy the Pedigree dog food which has one where it has glucosamine in it for healthy joints. Ofcourse ask your vet if Glucosamine would be ok for your dog to take because I don't know if hip arthritis and hip dysplasia is the same thing. I hope and pray your baby gets better.
Avatar f tn I just recently started taking glucosamine and Chondroitin to help my knee recover from a dislocated patella. but for some reason my contact lenses have become very dry is that a side effect of the glucosamine??. I have used this type of soft contacts for a long time but never experienced this problem. Thanks.
Avatar n tn When he first told me, I understood the chemistry he was teaching me, but his solution was to take about 6 HCL tablets with half of a glass of milk. SCARY! Here my throat and mouth were burning like hell and he wants me to put in lots of hydrochloric acid!!! Lots... to bring the pH back down to VERY ACIDIC like it is supposed to be. I didn't do it... too chicken, until one night the reflux was sooooo bad, I got up and took the 6 HCL tablets with 4 oz of milk..
Avatar n tn Glucosamine is fine for dogs. There are many formulas made specifically for dogs but its often cheaper to buy the human ones. MSM is a natural anti-inflammatory that is safe and may help too. Some of the dog powders/treats etc include MSM w/the glucosamine & chondroitin or you can get it separately.
1356964 tn?1302087435 that they seem to put in anything labelled for pet use. the human form is Glucosamine/Chrondroitin and cheaper to buy that way. Donna I'm doing some more indepth checking on this thru the holistic ppl I will get back to you so don't do any ordering until I do....continue with the cosequin.
Avatar m tn I take a throid pill every morning. Would glucosamine Chondrotin interfer with it?
