He may not have the enzymes to utilize the Glucosamine like he did before the gastric tube. Glucosamine Hcl is cheaper and it is harder for the body to utilize than the higher quality Glucosamine sulfate.
With that being said, Glucosamine sulfate is commonly use in people who have GI problems because it helps to protect the mucus membranes and heal injuried tissue. It is a very important supplement in IBS, Chrones disease, ulcers etc.,

However, Italian researchers have found that the LD50 (the lethal dose at which half of the animals die) of glucosamine sulfate is 8000 mg/kg. In humans this would be equivalent to ingesting over 500,000 mg at one time or 1,000 pills each containing 500 mg.
I hope this is useful... I got the idea from the site that max safe dose is 1500mg, and your dog had twice that much. You may want to see the vet anyway, even tho it says in the previous paragraph that a lethal dose is 8000mg.
Has anyone tried using n-acetyl glucosamine in conjunction with their normal insulin regamin (UCI study in August showed it might help)?

i just found out that i am pregnant but when i went to the doctor he had exam me and he say im 7 weeks pregnant but since i dont know my last menstrual cycle he had me go for a sonogram they could not see anything . so he did a blood test for my hcl level and it came back 1080 now he wants me to go for another sonogram tmrw . is there something wrong please help ..
I also have arthritis in my fingers, which is getting worse. A friend advised me to take glucosamine but considering it is made from the shells of sea creatures I wonder whether it contains iodine. Does anyone know if it would effect the thyroxine?
It's probably just age creeping up on him. What type of glucosamine product are you using on him? How long has he been on it? Those products don't work right away. Oftentimes you don't see any results at all for at least 30 days, and you don't get to peak performance until the pet has been taking it for six months or more. So unless he has been on the glucosamine for half a year or more, I wouldn't give up yet and say that it hasn't done much.
RLS is often more severe with tram wd than with narcotic wd..tram has along half life compared to oxy or hydro so wd from trams lasts alot longer as well
For a drug that provides very little pain relief..this drug is too risky to even bother with if addiction is an issue..Being a chronic painer..and an addict as well...and i HAD to choose btw oxy or hydro verses tramadol/I would choose oxy or hydro cos at least there is some sort of pain relief available/only for a while due to tolerence...

I just bought Osteo Bi-Flex with 5-Loxin advanced (Glucosamine, Chrondroitin, MSM, AKBA complex) at Walmart for my dogs. One dog weighs about 120lbs, and the other weighs about 65lbs. I need direction in knowing how many caplets to give to each of them daily. Very grateful.
5 pound schnauzer and has been limping a bit after exercise. I have started giving her 500 mg of glucosamine a day and wanted to know if this is the right dosage?
