There are also senior dog foods that contain varying amounts of these ingredients you may want to try as well. You could also check with Dr. Cheng on the Pet Health board here at Med Help for dosages. Does your dog have osteoarthritis or something more serious like hip dysplasia?
1093971 tn?1257833640 What form is the glucosamine in? What is the total daily dose? Are there any other ingredients? What type is the glucosamine? How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame. Since you didn’t ask about the latter I’ll stick to glucosamine by itself. If you search the Internet you’ll see inconclusive evidence of glucosamine having negative effects on blood sugar.

1295500 tn?1272459927 Glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM are good supplements for maintaining joint health, but they are not curative substances. Your dog could be suffering anything from simple arthritis; to hip dysplasia; to a pulled muscle, tendon or ligament; to a ruptured spinal disc; a tumor or cyst in a bad place; or any number of other issues. She's obviously in pain, so get her to the vet as soon as possible.
Avatar n tn Glucosamine and chondroitin are very good for joint health...even better if you can find a combination with MSM in it. I have never heard any negative things about it or interactions with any meds. Always check with your local pharmacist if concerned about any interactions with supplements, herbs and meds.
Avatar n tn I recommend that all dogs over the age of 3 who do not have joint problems take a good Glucosamine and Chondroitin combination supplement for joint health. If the pet is less than 3 and has congenital joint disease such as hip dysplasia, luxating patella, and others, to start as soon as they learn of the abnormality.
Avatar m tn s fish oil with enhanced DHA and EPA (15 grams daily), megadose vitamin E, and megadose glucosamine+chondroitin+MSM daily for anti inflammatory effects for my joint and tendon problems. I am looking to treat trauma of the brachial tendon to treat pain during bicep workouts by using a glucosamine cream. I have heard anecdotally that the cream format increases bio-availability by a staggering amount and that the oral supplement is essentially a snake oil product.
Avatar n tn s natural glucosamine is used to make and repair joint cartilage, taking glucosamine as a nutritional supplement is thought to help repair damaged cartilage by augmenting the body's supply of glucosamine. Avatar n tn The problem can occur anywhere there are joints in the body, which include her spine, hips, knees, ankles, feet, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and even in her tail. Lyme disease can contribute to joint pain and should be checked often and treated if necessary. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories such as Rimadyl or Previcox do help with joint pain and work to decrease inflammation which can further help to deteriorate joints.
Avatar f tn I have a older dog and use glucosamine and chondroitin supplements. There are many brands on the market that are "soft chews" for dogs and they all have diffrent quantities of active ingredients in them. The brand I favor has 4 different levels so you can put your pup on a higher dose to get them started and then lower it to a matainence dose once your pup is doing better. It will take some time but you should see some progress in 30-60 days.
Avatar f tn His front leg angles out at the middle joint, and is very painful to him. I tried DVM Feline Joint Gel two years ago, but stopped because he would throw up after taking it. Our vet says you can't give a cat pain meds because it affects their kidneys. I've been giving him massages, and he loves it, but cries when I pick him up Before I try the Bayer Joint Gel again, is their anything different anyone has had any luck with for arthritis?
Avatar m tn ) Here in the US, any store that carries vitamins and supplements almost always has glucosamine. Pharmacies or drug stores, health food stores, even 'big box' stores like Walmart. If you don't have anything like that in your area, try online. vitaminshoppe.com has a wide variety of brands in all price ranges; often the best deal is the Vitamin Shoppe "store brand", as you can get big bottles for a relatively low price per dose.
Avatar f tn I take anti-inflammatory (boswellia serrata, turmeric, sea buckthorn oil) supplements for pain and glucosamine with chondroitin for my joints. Juicing vegetables also helps.
2187849 tn?1338068981 The Phycox does contain Glucosamine, but also has Antioxidants (Vitamins) and other nutrients for Joint Health.....The only duplication in these two supplements is Turmeric....Turmeric is a wonderful pain relieving spice w/Anti-Cancer properties......The extra amount (If you combined both) is not harmful & probably is an added plus....So yes, both of these supplements can be given together.......Each are completely different! I'm more concerned about his food......
