Avatar f tn I was losing weight, but now the glipizide is keeping me at the same weight. Has anyone had the experience that is the same? and is there a lower does that anyone has still been able to lose weight with? and yes I'm on a low carb diet and excercise plan. I'm doing better with this than I did before and I lost 33 pounds. It's the glipizide. also when do people take there dose, I may cut down to one pill a day to see if its helps me.
2053416 tn?1330411192 Due to a lot of weight gain. My doctor took me off actos and put me on glumetza. I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.
Avatar n tn Currently taking glipizide for high blood sugar, but is causing side effects. Weight gain, extreme low blood sugar, restless sleep. What can I take instead that will not affect the liver?
Avatar f tn glipizide is in the Sulfonylurea class of drugs. Sulfonylurea drugs work by forcing the pancreas to make more insulin, insulin lowers BG. So if you dont eat and continue to take glipizide you run the risk of getting hypos. I say the risk as it depends what your BG is and how much glipizide lowers your BG. If you are on glipizide you should have a BG test meter to check your BG. So test to see how your BG is doing.
647391 tn?1275016633 "Do you take Glipizide once a day? " Yes, usually around 5-6am. I eat breakfast 30-45 minutes later. "If so, what is your blood sugars at the end of day." <120 mg/dl "I think the glipizide helps, but doesn't last the day." Don't rely on medications to do all the work for you. There there to 'help' you. Do you exercise and break sweat for 60 minutes daily? Are you at normal body weight? Are you eating a proper diabetic diet?
1273125 tn?1365077526 You do have to watch the weight gain / carbs thing as the whole inulin thing does promote weight gain, esp. if you are prone to it.
Avatar f tn Yes, please go back to the hospital. This level is terribly high. It would seem that he needs to be on insulin already if he can't control his sugars on oral meds. If you have to wait to see a doctor, you need to cut out the carbs until he can be seen. Lower carb diet actually works well to help control blood sugars. Educate yourself and your husband. It is a steep learning curve, but it can be done.
Avatar n tn is glipizide 10mg the same as glyburide 5mg / because my husband was drinking the gyburide and when we went for the new prescription it had changed to glipizide and he hasn't felt good since the change do i call his doctor
Avatar n tn Recently my 19 month old grandson got a hold of his dad's glipizide and chewed up 1- 1 1/2 tablets, they got most of the second one out of his mouth. took him to the hospital where they immediately ran serum glucose levels, which came out to 47. this was within 45 min. of the ingestion. they started a glucose drip and fed him graham crackers and gator aide and monitored him overnight. My question is .....
Avatar n tn I also take 500mg metformin after a meal(breakfast and dinner) and was advised to take 5mg glipizide before meals (breakfast and lunch) but sometimes I measure my bs before and notice it's sometimes 70-90 . A little about me: I don't eat at regular intervals, I don't snack , I have 3 meals a day . Wake up at 530 go to work, eat breakfast at 9 and then my lunch around 12 , dinner between 5-630. Avatar f tn i have problems lower my blood sugar. I take 2500mg metforman, 10mg glipizide per day. My morning blood sugar averages 146-162, mid-day average 110-113 and night average 138-168. Avatar n tn I'm a novice when it comes to diabetes so I could use some help. I'm on 2.5mg of Glipizide and have been for about four years. My doctor discourages blood glucose testings -- says that's only necessary if I were on insulin. However, I will occasionally check my blood sugar -- maybe once or twice a month or if I'm not feeling well. I checked it on Sunday and found it was running somewhat high.
Tbd I take Metformin Extended Release 1000 mg two times a day and Glipizide 10mg two times a day. Still the numbers are almost same at 170 and sometimes crossing 200. I do moderate exercise. Any suggestions?
4117735 tn?1349962369 Is it OK to double, or tipple, your medication? I take Glipizide 10 mg. The reason asked is that I have been monitoring my glucose and it has been between 200 - 300, and I would like to lower my readings.
Avatar n tn my blood sugar rates have been consistently 140-180 morning fast @6am. i take glipizide 5mg andmetformin 1000mg. now my level is suddenly 233-300. i do not drink last one 3 weeks ago and watch diet. i have been losing weight 15 lbs in last 2 months. why is my sugar so high?
Avatar f tn don't give up! You need to reduce your carbs. think of everything white as evil, and exercise as your drug. I was diagnosed almost three years ago now. I have been on a few different drugs and have been up and down. I know a lot now. I have had major back surgery 10 months ago and have ulcertive colitis. I feel your pain. I'm now on glipizide. I just cut it down to one pill because its causing me to gain weight. It is working, but only if I eat low carb, and exercise.
Avatar f tn htm This is obviously only going to be the case if a patient undergoes changes that will lead to this outcome. This would include losing weight and maintaining an appropriate BMI, eating a healthy diet that is friendly to diabetes recovery, and exercise. Losing weight and keeping off seems to be a signficant factor for this reversal to happen. Have your numbers fallen in the area of type 2 Diabetes?
1767171 tn?1328018842 I have Type II Diabetes, which went untreated for about 3 years, so Ive gained about 45lbs over that time period. I take both Metformin and Glipizide for the diabetes. Here is my problem. With all my meds I have zero appetite and eat maybe once/twice a day and small meals at that. With my PTSD I am unable to go outside the home for excercise without having panic attacks followed by seizures.
Avatar n tn am now taking glipizide 5 mg along with colestipol 1gr twice daily and gabapentin 300mg 3 times daily and my blood sugar levels are staying high. First time on all these meds and my sugar levels were fine on lisonpril. Could one of thse being causing the high readings. My diet is the same if not lower in sugar and calories.
Avatar f tn Look up weight gain according to BMI and it will give you a good idea on the amount of weight you should gain according to your body type.
