glipizide metformin side effects

I am a type 2 diabetic as well and Metformin upsets my stomach as well along with my cholesterol medication that I take in the evening.

Currently taking glipizide for high blood sugar, but is causing side effects. Weight gain, extreme low blood sugar, restless sleep. What can I take instead that will not affect the liver?

Are there any diabetics taking treatment? One of side effects is elevated blood sugar . Can someone help!

Hello.........you are not alone...I have been having effects of metformin and glipizide since May 27, 2015. I am going into the clinic tomorrow. My pharmacist said "oh there is a bug going around". This is clearly not a bug this is either the meds are in too warm of a temperature and not being as effective or I've got another kidney infection. Been up with abdominal pain, bloating, gas ..just can't get comfortable and my numbers are not coming down as fast as they were.

I also take 500mg metformin after a meal(breakfast and dinner) and was advised to take 5mg glipizide before meals (breakfast and lunch) but sometimes I measure my bs before and notice it's sometimes 70-90 . A little about me: I don't eat at regular intervals, I don't snack , I have 3 meals a day . Wake up at 530 go to work, eat breakfast at 9 and then my lunch around 12 , dinner between 5-630. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a year prior to HCV. I've used metformin, glipizide and actos (pioglitizone) for eight years now for DM2 management; including during both HCV treatments. I was eventually successful with interferon therapy, for what it's worth. I can't comment on the victoza; I have no personal experience with it. Reducing insulin resistance might be critical to succesful inteferon-based therapy as well.

I am now on glipizide and really no side effects except my heart raced periodically in the first couple weeks. It has lowered my numbers to 100-125 but I have also incorporated lean eating, water aerobics and just added strength training. I track foods and exercise through myfitnesspal.com and hopefully A1C test in October will show good results. You may just need a different diabetes med and may not need the insulin. See if your doctor can find an alternative med to lower your numbers.

For the first couple of weeks the side effects were really bad as far as gastrointestinal disorder. I called the doctor and she said that this was normal and to give it time, I would adjust. While that calmed down a bit I continued to feel nauseated and started to have muscle cramps in my shin, rapid heart rate, feeling out a breath, etc. I looked up adverse reactions to metformin on WebMd and saw that many sx were the same as what I was experiencing. My question is this.

Why are you on metformin? Do you have pcos? I was on metformin too and don't remember having any side effects. I guess once it adjusts to your body you might feel better. Also, there are good chances of getting pregnant while taking clomid with metformin.

I am on 3 tablets a day of each of Glipizide (5mg) and Metformin (500mg). I take the Glipizide equally spaced out during the day but the Metformin one at lunchtime and two with my evening meal as instructed.

i have been lucky with metformin, no side effects. However, some folks have experienced feeling dizzy, light-headed, tired, or very weak; A call to your doctor may be prudent. Perhaps the dose is too high Nonetheless a call will put your mind at ease.

I am at present taking metformin 2 tablets a day & 2 1/2 Gliclazide the metformin doesnt agree with me so would rather not increase these I 'm asking please if is it possable that if i take the drug sitagliptin it would mean i could reduce the gliclazide and stop the mrtformin my Diabetes is well controlled on the whole but my nurse as requested i increase the glicazide

Hi Ladies I just have as question about metformin whats the side effects some of you may have had? I start to take metformin today so maybe this will bring on my period. I had a natural m.c in nov 2008 and no AF as of yet.

My doctor wants me to try a new drug called onglyza,,,brand new,,had my druggist print out some info for me, and he was most helpful,more than my doctor! though does cause some side effects,,,there is little stomach distress,,I don't know, its so hard ...I am thinking of trying a more holistic approach?? anyway, this new drug,,,235.00 a month!!!!!! I am apalled...there should be a law!

That happened to me with metformin and my doctor switched me to glipizide. Now my numbers are going in the right direction. I think you need to complain to your doctor and find what works for you.

Maybe you need something else. Maybe a smaller dose of glipizide with the metformin.

I took metformin 500mg twice a day, then 1000mg twice a day, then added glipizide 5mg twice a day, then glipizide 10mg twice a day, now have added Levemir injectable at night. This all occurred since 2003.

I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.

Recently whenever I checked my fasting blood sugar it is not below 170. I take Metformin Extended Release 1000 mg two times a day and Glipizide 10mg two times a day. Still the numbers are almost same at 170 and sometimes crossing 200. I do moderate exercise. Any suggestions?

Hm, so you are diagnosed as PCOS or they just started the metformin for the reason of the adrenal gland issue? I'm trying to understand. LOL I know things that affect any part of our hormonal system will result in some mood changes. Are you taking the metformin as they intended? Have they also considered clomid? You've been working with a fertility doctor--- and done all the testing and this is the only issue they see with regards to getting pregnant?

I tried Metformin but was allergic so now they have me on Glipizide. So far my numbers have been in 100-125 after taking meds. It can drop you down low if you don't eat enough carbs in your meal so you have to be very strict on your routine when taking this med. I eat lean with a healthy balance of lean meats, carbs(fruits and healthy carbs) and tons of veggies. I also do water aerobics and just added strength training. Track with my fitness pal.

I recently got put on Metformin 500mg twice a day for diabetes. The other day my sugar dropped down to 60. Now I hadn't been eating much that day but my Grandma takes the same medication and says she has never had that happen. Should I be concerned?
