647391 tn?1275016633 "Do you take Glipizide once a day? " Yes, usually around 5-6am. I eat breakfast 30-45 minutes later. "If so, what is your blood sugars at the end of day." <120 mg/dl "I think the glipizide helps, but doesn't last the day." Don't rely on medications to do all the work for you. There there to 'help' you. Do you exercise and break sweat for 60 minutes daily? Are you at normal body weight? Are you eating a proper diabetic diet?
Avatar n tn is glipizide 10mg the same as glyburide 5mg / because my husband was drinking the gyburide and when we went for the new prescription it had changed to glipizide and he hasn't felt good since the change do i call his doctor
2053416 tn?1330411192 I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.

Avatar f tn Hi, I recently went on glipizide after a very bad reaction to victoza. I was losing weight, but now the glipizide is keeping me at the same weight. Has anyone had the experience that is the same? and is there a lower does that anyone has still been able to lose weight with? and yes I'm on a low carb diet and excercise plan. I'm doing better with this than I did before and I lost 33 pounds. It's the glipizide.

Avatar f tn You need to learn more about managing diabetes with diet, exercise and medication. Consider reading Blood Sugar 101 online or another basic diabetes book. Diabetes education classes are also good IF they give you up to date information which is not always the case. There are many websites and much information online written by people who are successfully managing their diabetes. Remaining consistently over 250 is very dangerous and can lead to complications.
Avatar f tn In addition he was also given medication for Diabetes Type II, metformin 850 mg, glipizide 5mg, lisinopril 5 mg, simvastatin 20mg, Asprin 81 mg, Ranitidine 150 mg. Additionally he was also prescribed Naproxen 500mg and Alumina Magnesia 360 ml. I think this is too much medication. Any suggestions? The pain meds are for arthritic hip and knee and rotator cuff surgery.
Girl I went on Glipizide about a month ago. Can not get the blood sugar level down. I also take Metformin. I have noticed since going on the medication I have bad breath. Is it me or has anyone else had this side effect?
Avatar n tn Gliclazide? Did you mean to say Glipizide? When writing names of medications it is important to spell them correctly as printed on the bottle/vile/container. Medication adjustments and/or changes only can be answered by your attending physician as he/she has access to your medical records/history to provide the correct evaluation, not strangers on Internet public health forums.
Dog I recently got put on Metformin 500mg twice a day for diabetes. The other day my sugar dropped down to 60. Now I hadn't been eating much that day but my Grandma takes the same medication and says she has never had that happen. Should I be concerned?
Avatar n tn I'm a novice when it comes to diabetes so I could use some help. I'm on 2.5mg of Glipizide and have been for about four years. My doctor discourages blood glucose testings -- says that's only necessary if I were on insulin. However, I will occasionally check my blood sugar -- maybe once or twice a month or if I'm not feeling well. I checked it on Sunday and found it was running somewhat high.
Avatar n tn It’s possible that Metformin isn’t the right medication for you. There quite a few other medications you can try. I’ve read about Berberine, but wouldn’t use it unless the doctor okays it. From what I’ve read, Berberine is supposed to work the same/similar way as Metformin, so if Metformin isn’t working, it’s likely Berberine wouldn’t work either. You should talk to your doctor and ask for a different medication that might work better.
Avatar n tn Recently my 19 month old grandson got a hold of his dad's glipizide and chewed up 1- 1 1/2 tablets, they got most of the second one out of his mouth. took him to the hospital where they immediately ran serum glucose levels, which came out to 47. this was within 45 min. of the ingestion. they started a glucose drip and fed him graham crackers and gator aide and monitored him overnight. My question is .....

Avatar n tn I took metformin 500mg twice a day, then 1000mg twice a day, then added glipizide 5mg twice a day, then glipizide 10mg twice a day, now have added Levemir injectable at night. This all occurred since 2003.
Avatar f tn Yes, please go back to the hospital. This level is terribly high. It would seem that he needs to be on insulin already if he can't control his sugars on oral meds. If you have to wait to see a doctor, you need to cut out the carbs until he can be seen. Lower carb diet actually works well to help control blood sugars. Educate yourself and your husband. It is a steep learning curve, but it can be done.
Avatar m tn That happened to me with metformin and my doctor switched me to glipizide. Now my numbers are going in the right direction. I think you need to complain to your doctor and find what works for you.
