glipizide dosage

Hi, I recently went on glipizide after a very bad reaction to victoza. I was losing weight, but now the glipizide is keeping me at the same weight. Has anyone had the experience that is the same? and is there a lower does that anyone has still been able to lose weight with? and yes I'm on a low carb diet and excercise plan. I'm doing better with this than I did before and I lost 33 pounds. It's the glipizide.

To offer counterpoint to FlGuy’s experience, I had to increase my Lantus insulin dosage to 110 units toward the end of treatment; insulin wasn’t working very well. I was already maxed out on Glipizide, Metformin, and Actos as well. Post treatment, I continue to use the oral drugs, but no longer require *any* insulin… pretty cool stuff.

I also take 500mg metformin after a meal(breakfast and dinner) and was advised to take 5mg glipizide before meals (breakfast and lunch) but sometimes I measure my bs before and notice it's sometimes 70-90 . A little about me: I don't eat at regular intervals, I don't snack , I have 3 meals a day . Wake up at 530 go to work, eat breakfast at 9 and then my lunch around 12 , dinner between 5-630. Is it OK to double, or tipple, your medication? I take Glipizide 10 mg. The reason asked is that I have been monitoring my glucose and it has been between 200 - 300, and I would like to lower my readings.

Yes, please go back to the hospital. This level is terribly high. It would seem that he needs to be on insulin already if he can't control his sugars on oral meds. If you have to wait to see a doctor, you need to cut out the carbs until he can be seen. Lower carb diet actually works well to help control blood sugars. Educate yourself and your husband. It is a steep learning curve, but it can be done.

My doctor just prescribed for me Glipizide along with my Glucophage because my sugars have been high for quite a while now. He warned me of the dangers and symptoms of low blood sugar. My question is, and i know its kind of silly, but what about when i'm sleeping? I know i can drink some juice before bed at 10pm, but then thats 10 hours before i eat again. I can drink juice again when i wake up at 7, but thats still 9 or 10 hours before breakfast. Thanks for any help.

I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.

I have elevated liver enzymes due to hepatic adenoma. Currently taking glipizide for high blood sugar, but is causing side effects. Weight gain, extreme low blood sugar, restless sleep. What can I take instead that will not affect the liver?

am now taking glipizide 5 mg along with colestipol 1gr twice daily and gabapentin 300mg 3 times daily and my blood sugar levels are staying high. First time on all these meds and my sugar levels were fine on lisonpril. Could one of thse being causing the high readings. My diet is the same if not lower in sugar and calories.

That happened to me with metformin and my doctor switched me to glipizide. Now my numbers are going in the right direction. I think you need to complain to your doctor and find what works for you.

Hi Again, Thank you for responding. My levels run in the mid100's and I am on the maximum dosage od glipizide and metformin. I cannot afford the insulin they want to put me on. My main concern is this may be MRSA. I have had klebsiella pnuemonae(sp?) and am worried now I have this. Hopefully it is just my diabetes. What I am really worried about is why they won't fully drain and why it was bleeding for a whole day. If they do not go away in a few days I will have to see a Dr.

I'm a novice when it comes to diabetes so I could use some help. I'm on 2.5mg of Glipizide and have been for about four years. My doctor discourages blood glucose testings -- says that's only necessary if I were on insulin. I do test occasionally (though I feel guilty when I do) and when I test I'm finding that in the a.m. (non-fasting), it's running 300 or more -- this morning it was 321. I'm on Glipizide and Juanvia. 1) My PC just increased my thyroid dosage so my body might be trying to adjust to this. I think I remember tyroid can mess with your temperature perception. 2) My Shrink had RX me with an anti anxiety medication that I had just started taking a recently. Sure didn't help with the anxiety for the heart issues. But I stopped taking it 2 days ago because I was getting light headed and dizzy especially when I stood up.

Hello.........you are not alone...I have been having effects of metformin and glipizide since May 27, 2015. I am going into the clinic tomorrow. My pharmacist said "oh there is a bug going around". This is clearly not a bug this is either the meds are in too warm of a temperature and not being as effective or I've got another kidney infection. Been up with abdominal pain, bloating, gas ..just can't get comfortable and my numbers are not coming down as fast as they were.

Last September I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I started taking Glipizide 5mg in the am along with meds for blood pressure. I also made major life style changes. I exercise an hour a day five days a week now. I eat extremely heathy. I lost 30 lbs. I'm sleeping again. I changed jobs. I'm still very overweight, but all my numbers are now in the normal range or close to it.

hi i am 54 year old i have been diagnosed with psvt 2years ago at the same time i was diagnosed with diabetes i am using glipizide for dm.and for psvt i have been using verapamil and clopidogrel since 2years is it safe to use these 2 drugs for such a long time can i discontinue them.
