glucotrol

Avatar n tn I have elevated liver enzymes due to hepatic adenoma. Currently taking glipizide for high blood sugar, but is causing side effects. Weight gain, extreme low blood sugar, restless sleep. What can I take instead that will not affect the liver?
647391 tn?1275016633 I routinely have blood sugars in the 150 range my A!C has been 7.7 and 8.2. I was suppose to have some foot surgery, but it was cancel because of the A1c. It is the 1st time I was told I couldn't have surgery because of the diabetes. My regular doctor signed off on me having surgery. The foot surgeon wouldn't do it. I just didn't think my blood sugar level was of any concern.
Avatar f tn Eventually I went on 1000mg twice a day Janumet, and 2.5XL Glipizide, it worked for a while. I recently gained 8 lbs. but not sure it was the glipizide. On my second day of Victoza, so far ok. Interested to hear what kind of reaction you had to Victoza.
Avatar n tn is glipizide 10mg the same as glyburide 5mg / because my husband was drinking the gyburide and when we went for the new prescription it had changed to glipizide and he hasn't felt good since the change do i call his doctor
Avatar f tn I am a type 2 diabetic and I concerned about fasting (religious) and taking glipizide. I have been on metformin for over 14 years and have had to recently add glucotrol to my regimen. I do not have any low blood sugar symptoms at all and I am scared of the time I have to restrain from eating. Is any one else ever dealt with this?
Avatar f tn During strenuous/aggressive exercise your body releases adrenaline which in turn causes your muscles and liver to release stored glucose [BG]. Have you tested at 1.5 and 2 hr intervals? It may take that long for your body to come to rest/normalized, it does mine. If it persists call your Endo.
Avatar n tn I also take 500mg metformin after a meal(breakfast and dinner) and was advised to take 5mg glipizide before meals (breakfast and lunch) but sometimes I measure my bs before and notice it's sometimes 70-90 . A little about me: I don't eat at regular intervals, I don't snack , I have 3 meals a day . Wake up at 530 go to work, eat breakfast at 9 and then my lunch around 12 , dinner between 5-630. No snacks. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Avatar n tn The Gastroenterologist recommended Liver Biopsy to check for liver damage. This is a scary procedure and I wanted to know if there are other alternative procedure/processes. Also, is there something I can do or treaments I can receive to treat this problem. I weight 122 lbs, and 5'4 tall. I take Glucophage XR, Januvia, Glipizide ER, Avapro (to prevent kidney damage, not hypertensive), Calcium with Vit D, Fish oil, Loratidine (hives as needed) and Zantac.
553878 tn?1226507294 You do not want to end up in a situation where you cannot treat and will need a new liver.... and then have to do tx after that too. And then, we are not getting younger... The risk of postponing tx is a loss of ca 2% of possibility to be cured per year. And you are just a year past the magic number. I'm sorry I'm butting in on the treatment issue. Am just concerned.
2053416 tn?1330411192 Due to a lot of weight gain. My doctor took me off actos and put me on glumetza. I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.
4117735 tn?1349962369 The reason asked is that I have been monitoring my glucose and it has been between 200 - 300, and I would like to lower my readings.
317787 tn?1473358451 Now she uses a once-per-week injection of Bydureon, and her diabetes is very well-controlled. Initially she used a helper drug with it, Glipizide ER, but she no longer needs that. She doesn't have any noticeable side effects from these meds and has kept her weight down pretty easily as the Bydureon reduces appetite as well as controlling the diabetes. You might want to ask your doctor about these drugs as an alternative.
Avatar n tn In fact Alcohol will cause low BG the reason being your liver does a lot of amassing things, BUT only one thing at a time. When you drink alcohol the liver stops all other activity and removes the poison from your blood (alcohol). When it does that it no longer dumps sugar OR removes metformin from your system. To much metformin can cause lactic acidosis which if drinking for days and continuing to take metformin can be deadly. You dont say what you were drinking.
Avatar f tn well we used to, anywise when you wake up your body releases a lot of hormones and your liver does a glucose dump to give you energy so you can get going. Glucofage helps with liver dumps. OR if you go too long without eating your liver will release glucose (your body thinks you must be starving) try eating some protien and fat before bed peanut butter on a small cracker.
341655 tn?1240368839 m a 22 year old with steroid induced diabetes and my blood sugar has been in the lows of 42-60, I ate and had some glucose gel which brought it into the 80's but about an hour later it dropped again to 42 where I had symptoms of extreme hunger, shakiness, heaviness in my legs and sweating. I'm worried its going to crash into the night and I could go into a diabetic coma during sleep, if thats possible?
Avatar f tn I am on 3 tablets a day of each of Glipizide (5mg) and Metformin (500mg). I take the Glipizide equally spaced out during the day but the Metformin one at lunchtime and two with my evening meal as instructed.
Avatar n tn am now taking glipizide 5 mg along with colestipol 1gr twice daily and gabapentin 300mg 3 times daily and my blood sugar levels are staying high. First time on all these meds and my sugar levels were fine on lisonpril. Could one of thse being causing the high readings. My diet is the same if not lower in sugar and calories.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a year prior to HCV. I've used metformin, glipizide and actos (pioglitizone) for eight years now for DM2 management; including during both HCV treatments. I was eventually successful with interferon therapy, for what it's worth. I can't comment on the victoza; I have no personal experience with it. Reducing insulin resistance might be critical to succesful inteferon-based therapy as well.

Avatar n tn Bitter gourd and spent turmeric at 10% level were tested for their efficacy on glycosaminoglycan metabolism in various tissues viz., liver, spleen, lungs, heart and testis in control, diabetic and treated rats. The glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) were isolated from defatted and dried tissues. The contents of sulfated GAGs decreased in all the tissues and the decrease was more prominent in heart and testis.
647391 tn?1275016633 I got my A1c and Glucose results - I had surgery postponed because of my A1C and glucose. Well, it isn't better. The A1C is 8.0 and the glucose is 140. The glucose number is down from before, but still not where it should be. I don't know what I am going to do. The foot surgery isn't going to happen. It is the end of the world, just not the way I want to leave me foot. Is there any hope of bringing it down. I just take a low dose of glipizide in the morning.
Avatar m tn That happened to me with metformin and my doctor switched me to glipizide. Now my numbers are going in the right direction. I think you need to complain to your doctor and find what works for you.
Avatar m tn My husband who is 61 had a mild heart attack in 2007. He also has controlled asthma -- hardly ever uses inhalers or other meds for it. Has diabetes 2 controlled by metformin and glipizide. He's on Plavix, Toprol, ramipril and lipitor for heart maintenance. He also takes niacin. For the last three years, ever since his heart attack, he has had blood work done every three months. It always comes back the same. His HGB ranges from 18 -- 19, his HCT from 53% to 58%, his RBC 6.3 to 6.5.
Avatar n tn I have recently been prescribed Metformin for type 2 diabetes and have gone from 500 mg to 1,500 mg per day. A1C and glucose is worsening despite higher dose and strict diet, exercise. Does my body have an issue with the drug? I was considering Berberine as a natural supplement instead of Metformin, thoughts?
Avatar n tn I'm a novice when it comes to diabetes so I could use some help. I'm on 2.5mg of Glipizide and have been for about four years. My doctor discourages blood glucose testings -- says that's only necessary if I were on insulin. However, I will occasionally check my blood sugar -- maybe once or twice a month or if I'm not feeling well. I checked it on Sunday and found it was running somewhat high.
