Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed with Hep C and now my doctor is telling me I have gestational diabetes. Is this because of the HCV? Do I even have gestational diabetes? Or does it just seem like I have it? Please help me.
Avatar f tn Elevated blood glucose levels are indicative of gestational diabetes, although no one seems to know exactly what causes it. Hormones in the placenta can block the action of the mother's insulin in her body; insulin resistance makes it hard for the mother's body to use insulin, and without enough insulin glucose is turned into energy because it can't leave the body. A high level of blood glucose, called hyperglycemia, requires the baby to work harder.
Avatar f tn Honestly dont be nervous. Gestational diabetes is pretty common. Just watch the amount of carbohydrates in your meals. Keep them low usually under a total of 60g for breakfast and dinner and under 45g for lunch. Keep snacks to no carbs at all. Cheeses are great. Cut the soda and sugary food back and you should do just fine. Im a type 1 diabetic for 13 years. Talk to your doc about it. Its not that bad when its just the gestational diabetes.
Avatar f tn Yes, diabetes that develops during pregnancy is called gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes requires close monitoring throughout your pregnancy. Typically, once you deliver, the diabetes resolves. However, immediately after delivery your doctor will monitor your blood sugars and your baby's blood sugar. Good luck.

Avatar f tn I have Gestational diabetes as well I have had it since 26 weeks I'm now 30 weeks in the beginning I had to see a dietitian and have to test test myself 4 times a day for my glucose levels I was doing really well for a while I lost weight but now baby is getting bigger and hard for me to control my sugar I've done everything I can and doc said they will start me on insulin next week just once a day but wish you all the best if you have a question let me know the biggest risk is the baby
Avatar f tn Gestational diabetes is a fairly common precursor for people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. So yes, please treat gestational diabetes as an advance warning. This means attention to diet (lower carb is usually helpful), weight, activity, and the need for regular monitoring (hba1c testing every 6 - 12 months is a great idea). Be aware of diabetes symptoms and if in doubt test.
Avatar f tn I do not have diabetes but everytime i am pregnant i get gestational diabetes. I would think your dr would be working w/ you to make sure that you have controlled diabetes as i am sure there are still things you will want to be informed about being pregnant w/ diabetes.
Avatar f tn That sounds more like anemia than diabetes, I have gestational diabetes for the second time and I've never experienced that.

3104777 tn?1363885649 Gestational diabetes is just that, it does not mean you will have diabetes after giving birth. If you fail the test, I would retest, it's inaccurate a lot of the time.
Avatar f tn I have gestational diabetes and I'm 35 weeks going on 36 weeks and today was the first day I've had a high reading and I'm not sure why? I'm controlling my gestational diabetes with diet and exercise and have been doing fairly well until today. Anyone else with this problem? Thanks in advance!
Avatar f tn I found out I have very high sugar levels at 32 weeks. I have been keeping track, watching my diet and have recently started taking insulin shots but still seem to be getting high numbers:(....I spoke to my diabetes specialits and she says its expected and we may increase the insulin units (earlier they were increased from 4 to 6 units but still coming high). Has anyone else been taking insulin shots? any long term effects or dependencies on these for me or the baby?
