Gleevec side effects treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Gleevec side effects treatment

gleevec

Avatar n tn Still maintaining current dose of 400mg.Apart from some annoying blisters on my palm, other side effects rather acceptable.
Avatar f tn Fortunately, in the last several years, two other agents (these are referred to as second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors) – dasatinib (Sprycel®) and nilotinib (Tasigna©) have both been shown to be at least equally effective (and likely better) in treating CML. They have different side effects, but either can be used as initial therapy for CML or after imatinib therapy. This may be helpful to you: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar n tn After two weeks on 400mlg gleevec my WBC droped from 36.5 to 7.1. My doctor told to come for additional test in two weeks. Now my WBC is 1.3 and absolute neutrophils count is 0.04. I was told to stay home on antibiotics. How long it may take for my counts to clime back to safe range. And of course, I'm off gleevec right now. Does it seem that dose of 400mlg is too high for me.
Avatar n tn My husband is very good about dealing with all my side effects. Your Dad might run into a problem with friends or family. They think once you start taking this simple pill that you are completely better. There is no cure for CML right now, and people do not understand what we go through. All they know is your in remission, so why don't you get on with life. Tell your Mom to keep finding things for him to do. Maybe he needs to get into a group discussion.
Avatar m tn Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count. This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
Avatar m tn I fear that I have diastolic dysfunction of the left ventricle, which is a side effect of the Gleevec. I saw my cariologist 2 years ago and he said I had some slight thickening but nothing to worry about. I am a 44 year old male, 5'9 200lbs (I know slightly over weight). I have told my PCP and my Hemotologist how I feel and they never seem concerned or worried and consider everything CML related. I feel that I am seriously ill.
Avatar f tn Some get really ill, with all side effects mentioned, others get some side effects, or not so severe and others fly through treatment. You can never know how you will react, until you get there. I have not started treating, yet, but I am preparing myself for the worst. If it won't be as bad as I expect, I will be happy. If it will be as bad, I will at least be prepared for it.
Avatar f tn Hello, I was just reading about an older dog having a problem with urinary incontinence and the treatment she was given, particularly the possible side effects. My White Bearded Collie (13 years old) started being incontinent last year and my vet has prescribed INCURIN 1mg daily. This has been mostly effective (just the odd occurrence when she was asleep or distressed). I was just concerned that it may have some serious side effects such as those mentioned for the other treatment (PPA).
Avatar f tn He was on top of transplant list but all 3 livers that became available were unacceptable. Treatment side effects are nothing compared to end stage liver disease so I am very motivated to get through this for my son and myself. I was able to work FT and care for an aging parent in 2005. She passed away in January of this year. I will miss her support but unfortunately will have more free time.
Avatar f tn Some of us don’t get particularly ill from the treatment meds, Amy. I treated for a few years, and most of my complaints were centered around fatigue; I could have slept for weeks at a time :o). How long is your treatment duration; 24, 48 or more weeks? What genotype HCV are you?
Avatar f tn What r the treatment my doctor said IV.but I C where there's pills so confused and really wish I knew what my numbers match.Thank you.
Avatar n tn I am still in treatment, but I have read that many people deal with side effects for up to 6 months after they finish. It takes a while for all of that stuff to get out of your system, and then your body has to re-learn how to function without it. Be patient with yourself.
Avatar f tn I mean some of them sound awful. Some good news? Will interferon ruin you physically and mentally for the rest of your life. I hear of some people who have done the treatment more than once on this site and have not complained that much and would be willing to tx again if need be.?????????????????????? thanks and Merry Christmas everyone!
425825 tn?1222629631 So treatment was successful for myself and like i said, i had hardly ANY side effects. There were times i felt better on treatment than off. I know very strange, but each body is different and each person can handle different things. So don't get discurraged and think that treatment is NOT working just because your side effects are minimal. Be thankful and stay positive that you will reach SVR. The mind can do amazing things.
Avatar m tn I am quite sure the treatment drugs exacerbated the existing pain. After treatment cessation things went back to what is my "normal".
Avatar m tn Guess I got my answer 9.9 hemoglobin. Add procrit to the list.
Avatar m tn Most of my side effects are gone, but I still have a few. I feel great, even with the few side effects I have left. What I noticed was they lessened in intensity as the days went by. Then at some point I would realize a certain side effect was gone. Then another and another. They just keep disappearing, but not all at once, and it is gradual. At least that is what I found. I also found that it is a little uneven, just like they are while on treatment.
Avatar m tn I am in week 4 of the Olysio/Sovaldi combo therapy and am disappointed at the side effects I'm experiencing. Prior to starting the treatment I was very encouraged by what I was finding on the boards, especially after two bad experiences with interferon treatment and an allergic reaction to ribavirin. Unfortunately I am experiencing maddening itching which I'm controlling with Allegra and extreme fatigue and an all around foggy feeling.
