Common Questions and Answers about Gleevec leukemia

gleevec

Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed last year and was immediatley put on gleevec 400mg/day.At my last consult my metabolic stats had risen, hence blood tests to determine if the gleevec is no longer working.I am still in firstphase and wonder what my options are if the gleevec is no longer an option.Amin pretty good form, just very tired and a lot of bone pain.
Avatar n tn I am a leukemia survivor. I have developed dry dark patches on my back. What caused it? What's the best treatment?
Avatar n tn He takes Glevac everyday, which seems to be helping the leukemia, but he is always sick. He has tried Zofran, Compazene, Reglen and now a scopalomine patch. None of these have worked for him. Needless to say, he is now depressed and sleeps all the time. Is there anything else out there that can help with nausea? We wonder about the medical marijuana, but don't know if that's an option for him. What about seeing a naturopath? Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn She then went to Mayo and the doctor there told her she did not have Leukemia based on her blood work there, but she had been overdosed on Hydrea during the summer to the point her wbc was 3 and was only recovered to 11 by the time of her appt in Sept. Now her wbc is 58 and her hometown doctor is putting her back on Hydrea. Her family is concerned she is going to take a serious chemo drug when there is still a question of what she has. Could it be an infection that isn't showing up?
Avatar m tn Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count. This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.
Avatar n tn Is it possible that after taking gleevec for only two weeks WBC droped from 36.7 to 7? All other blood counts are also came back to normal range. Could doctor make mistake in diagnosis of CML? Maybe I should get seg second opinion?
Avatar n tn After two weeks on 400mlg gleevec my WBC droped from 36.5 to 7.1. My doctor told to come for additional test in two weeks. Now my WBC is 1.3 and absolute neutrophils count is 0.04. I was told to stay home on antibiotics. How long it may take for my counts to clime back to safe range. And of course, I'm off gleevec right now. Does it seem that dose of 400mlg is too high for me.
Avatar n tn Am on Gleevec 400mg, now having problems with blisters on the palm. What can I do about it?
Avatar m tn I have CML and was treated with Gleevec for 4 years and achieved remission. I have for the past several months been experiencing sudden onset of weakness which last for hours, to days. My blood pressure which has remained under control for several years with atenolol has been running 145/105 and higher for the past three to four months. I have a feeling of fullness in my stomach, and I have sporatic episodes of mild coughing, this occurs maybe once a week.
Avatar n tn * buprenorphine Metabolized into norbuprenorphine by cytochrome-P450 isoenzyme 3A4 * Tyrosine kinase inhibitors, including Gleevec and Tasigna, used to treat chronic myelogenous leukemia and gastrointestinal tumors.
Avatar m tn //www.cancer.org/Cancer/Leukemia-ChronicMyelomonocyticCMML/DetailedGuide/leukemia-chronic-myelomonocytic-survival-rates (from 07/25/2011) "About 20 percent of CMML-1 patients and about 10 percent of CMML-2 patients survived longer than 5 years." Also, what's your LDH? Any other markers tested? Does your 28% apply to blood blasts? You haven't mentioned any BMBs being done - yet I'd think that would be automatic, so maybe your figures are for marrow and not blood.
225036 tn?1294509400 s post - the pill is called Gleevec. It is primarily for leukemia, but it is one of the treatments my doc at MD Anderson has in his back pocket ready to give me if the time comes that I need it. Becky, I know you are facing the fact that you are out of chemo's to try. But I'm wondering about Gleevec. I don't think it is an approved ovarian cancer treatment, but right now is critical. Wonder if your doc would consier trying it. I hope the Vitamin C infusions are helping.

1553907 tn?1367609586 Yes I saw that on your home page. What if you go back to the same doctor and tell him that the treatment made you a lot worse? Would he listen to you? What about going to the states for a second opinion? Is it too costly? My husbands mother is from Edmonton but has lived here in California since 1952. But his aunt still lives there her husband had chronic lympocytic leukemia and was also Canadian and he thought he had gone out of remission but they wouldn't let him have an MRI.
Avatar m tn I do have Leukemia. Mine is CML, and it does not go away and come back. With my type of Leukemia the white count would continue to rise at each blood test without any type of treatment. Just keep getting your blood tested to see how your blood counts are. There are other things that can cause some of your problems. You mentioned a High Calcium, and that could be a indication of a Parathyroid Problem. Ask your doctor to run a PTH test to check those numbers.
Avatar n tn Is leukemia a possibility if I've been having chronic wrist pain since mid-January 2008. I went to the dr., he did an xray and said nothing appeared. I had a CBC w/differential done Dec 31 2007 and everything turned up normal. I know bone/joint pain is a symptom of leukemia, would this be more systematic or could it be a localized area? I also came down with a cold a few days ago, constant coughing, mucous but no fever, please any insights?
Avatar m tn I have not heard of a link between HIV and Leukemia, however I know there is a link between HIV and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (a cousin to Leukemia). According to the National Cancer Institute, HIV can also be associated with Hodgkin disease and cancers of the lung, mouth, cervix, and digestive system.
Avatar n tn And of course I will worry anyway, so I am just wondering if anyone else have had this problem and wether I should worry about it being leukemia?
Avatar f tn They can lead to specific types of anemia but not leukemia. If a patient already has leukemia, then red blood cell production and utilization of these elements becomes impaired, and can lead to anemia. Your symptoms may be indicative of both conditions (lymphoma or leukemia). Other possibilities would include chronic infections such as tuberculosis. I hope that the PET scan can be done soon and tell us useful information.
Avatar n tn How many test are required to have a positive diagnosis of Leukemia, and how fast will it be diagnosed ?
Avatar n tn So, my father called me and told me that his dr said that he had a "little" leukemia but he's fine. Is this possible? He told me that people can have a little leukema their whole life and be fine. I have never heard this before and I thinking that he just wants to protect me from the truth.
