Recently, she has been in and out of hospital for critically low sodium level. This has occurred for about a year. Anyone experienced similar problems or know of any research showing causal link?
Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count.
This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.
Is it possible that after taking gleevec for only two weeks WBC droped from 36.7 to 7? All other blood counts are also came back to normal range. Could doctor make mistake in diagnosis of CML? Maybe I should get seg second opinion?
I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
After two weeks on 400mlg gleevec my WBC droped from 36.5 to 7.1. My doctor told to come for additional test in two weeks. Now my WBC is 1.3 and absolute neutrophils count is 0.04. I was told to stay home on antibiotics. How long it may take for my counts to clime back to safe range. And of course, I'm off gleevec right now. Does it seem that dose of 400mlg is too high for me.
I have CML and was treated with Gleevec for 4 years and achieved remission. I have for the past several months been experiencing sudden onset of weakness which last for hours, to days. My blood pressure which has remained under control for several years with atenolol has been running 145/105 and higher for the past three to four months. I have a feeling of fullness in my stomach, and I have sporatic episodes of mild coughing, this occurs maybe once a week.
Am on Gleevec 400mg, now having problems with blisters on the palm. What can I do about it?
i get my heart checked every 2 weeks now and i am fine with the qt thing. i take the chemo pill called gleevec and have to force myself to eat so i dont get sick when i take it. how long will these withdrawel problems go on? i have xanax to take (1mg) but dont work to good. i should would appreciate any advice from any one on how to deal with these issues, family dr says its anxiety but i think its the withdrawels from the high dose of elavil.

* Cyclosporine (Neoral). Blood levels of cyclosporine are increased if taken with grapefruit juice. A plausible mechanism involves the combined inhibition of enteric CYP3A4 and P-glycoprotein, which potentially leads to serious adverse events (e.g., nephrotoxicity).Blood levels of tacrolimus (Prograf) can also be equally affected for the same reason as with cyclosporine.
You might find he starts to be able to tolerate the pill. Gleevec is first choice for treating CML, and if he is doing good in every other way then encourage him that he is doing great.

She then went to Mayo and the doctor there told her she did not have Leukemia based on her blood work there, but she had been overdosed on Hydrea during the summer to the point her wbc was 3 and was only recovered to 11 by the time of her appt in Sept. Now her wbc is 58 and her hometown doctor is putting her back on Hydrea. Her family is concerned she is going to take a serious chemo drug when there is still a question of what she has. Could it be an infection that isn't showing up?
I'm a 37 year old and I just had a complete blood workup done a week ago due to ongoing muscle and joint pain I've been experiencing for quite a while. The blood work was essentially normal except for slightly elevated triglycerides and cholesterol, but what really stood out was that my B12 level was elevated at 1299. I believe the normal range is 200-900.

I see different drugs in the pipeline, including Gleevec which is very successful in other blood cancers. I do see some monoclonal antibodies there. Aha, the bortezomib study is here:

But it was just a pilot, i.e., the very earliest stage of investigation. But that apparently showed it to be safe, as expected. IOW, it is not a risky last-chance drug. Neither most likely are none the MABs risky, they are very mild in side effects.
Hello. I just bought a pulse and blood oxygen meter to monitor my heart rate. However, I noticed that when walking my blood oxygen level drops into the 80's and my pulse jumps up to 115 or higher (this is with just light walking through a store). I do have a heart condition. I have swelling around my heart and my pericardial sac is slightly thickened to around 4mm. Could my heart problem be causing this or is this something else?
Today is my first day of testing blood glucose. My diagnosed level is 180. I tested before breakfast at 143, 2 hours after breakfast I tested at 251, 2 hours later after excersize I tested at 086. Are these types of spikes something that is normal?
I really don't understand yet what to expect.

Thanks for your information. Actually I tested my blood sugar 3 hours after ate. I am not diagnosed as diabetes till today, but I am awared that my blood sugar level may increase in this my age because of my bad eating habits like sweet, meat, rice , alcohol drinking etc. That's why I am testing my blood sugar level regularly. I want to know whether testing after 3hrs ate is perfect or not.
