Gleevec and bone pain

Common Questions and Answers about Gleevec and bone pain

gleevec

Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
Avatar f tn I am still in firstphase and wonder what my options are if the gleevec is no longer an option.Amin pretty good form, just very tired and a lot of bone pain.
Avatar m tn Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count. This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CML in May with WBC at 222 and an enlarged spleen. Currently on Gleevec 400mg and the last FBC shows WBC at 2.1 . Still maintaining current dose of 400mg.Apart from some annoying blisters on my palm, other side effects rather acceptable.
Avatar n tn t want to see me, that fever was not from gleevec, and that I needed to monitor myself by myself by simply taken ibuprofen. This is what I did all last week and only this Monday he did a blood work. For now, what can I do to help my body to build my immune system back? Any vitamins? I'll appriciate any advice.
Avatar m tn I have CML and was treated with Gleevec for 4 years and achieved remission. I have for the past several months been experiencing sudden onset of weakness which last for hours, to days. My blood pressure which has remained under control for several years with atenolol has been running 145/105 and higher for the past three to four months. I have a feeling of fullness in my stomach, and I have sporatic episodes of mild coughing, this occurs maybe once a week.
Avatar f tn A definite diagnosis of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is made by demonstrating the existence of the Philadelphia chromosome on cytogenetic studies of the bone marrow cells (harvested by bone marrow biopsy) or by detecting the bcr-abl gene (this is the defective gene responsible for the CML) by means of a test called polymerase chain reaction or PCR. If these two tests were not done, I can't see how a diagnosis of CML can be made.
Avatar n tn You might find he starts to be able to tolerate the pill. Gleevec is first choice for treating CML, and if he is doing good in every other way then encourage him that he is doing great. I hope this helps you. I would be glad to help you with any other questions.

My drs. just keep telling me to watch and wait, but I don't feel comfortable doing that, especially since I am fighting a recurrent staph infection that keeps returning every month.

987242 tn?1335490770 Okay I do not believe I have Leukemia, but every time I look up this symptom I find Leukemia. I am hoping to get the bottom of my problems and would like to ensure that bone pain is the best description for what is occurring to me. I have two types of pain that seems to come from my bones or at the very least very deep in the muscle. One is a aching that leaves my legs feeling extremely cold. To the point of me laying in very hot water to try and get some warmth.
Avatar f tn I have been having bone pain for the pass couple of years on and off and recently it s becoming more pronounced. I have a positive RA panel and high raji cell assay also elevated immunocomplexes. I was rerfered to a specialist but cannot afford to do so at the moment. 1436330 tn?1284666036 OMG....I can actually feel it again just from seeing you describe it! Heating pad and baths. I would say that advil helped me more than tylenol if you can take it. Take 800 mg. Sorry! If it helps you any, I am having sympathy pains for you!!!!!!!!
Avatar f tn One more thing, your bone pain might not last long. Sides tend to come and go. I was happy the bone pain wasn't a long lasting side for me. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn Since the big leg bones produce most of the hemoglobin, I suspect the pain was due to the production of Hgb. My bone pain was modest and resolved itself in a few days. Bone pain can be a severe side effect and should be reported to your doctor. Good luck!
712802 tn?1274645485 with everything I have going on (all the changes in my body) it makes sense to me that the bone pain could be from the muscles, tendons, and ligaments pulling on them. Having bone pain in my collar bones and sternum, with disc degeneration and arthritis in my shoulders; it seems highly likely that my bone pain is just what you said. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Could bone pain be related to Fibro or CFS? I have constant bone pain in my legs, but my doctor says I'm fine. He said it might just be my CFS (I don't have a Fibro dx), but he seemed to brush it off.

Avatar f tn Since then I have been on several other chemos and have recieved both red and white cell booster shots and have not had any bone and muscle pain..so for me it was the carbo/taxol that caused it. Good luck..and please meake sure to mention this to her Onc.
Avatar f tn I'm 18 years old, active, and for the past 10ish years I have been experiencing bone and joint pain. It really upsets me because I used to play soccer, basket ball, track and field, floor hockey, writing, doing drama, and do 4-H. but I haven't been able to do any of that stuff because my body won't let me. When I do these things my lungs and heart start to hurt a lot. My doctor won't diagnose me, and I just want the pain to go away.
17542556 tn?1457654206 My doctor wanted me to do a total body scan with nuclear medicines because of my bone pain. Is this necessary? Do I need x-rays at all? Should I have a bone density scan? Is this bone pain (which is tolerable) a serious side effect? Sometimes I think my oncologist only wants to make money.
