Avatar f tn Xopenex is a rescue inhaler, that means you have to use this when he has an episode of Asthma. Flovent is a steroid inhaler. This are preventive inhalers. The type of drug commonly used in preventer inhalers is a steroid. Steroids work by reducing the inflammation in the airways. When the inflammation has gone, the airways are much less likely to become narrow and cause symptoms such as wheezing. Steroid inhalers are usually taken twice per day.
Avatar n tn but what i am wondering, like for people who are allergic to alot of things. Is the flovent the same type of medicine lije as the albuterol inhailor. I can use the albuterol inhaler but i am not sure if i can use the flovent or not. Can someone give me this answer please? i have looked and looked for this type of answer but cant seem to find it any where. I would appreciate if someone could help me out please.
Avatar f tn Flovent is a corticosteroid. It is not generally prescribed for short-term use. Inhaled steroids carry substantial risk, especially for children. Ask about alternative treatments if the xopenex is not sufficiently helpful..
Avatar f tn Within days of stopping the flovent again the rash was back, even worse than the first time. I strongly suspect that the flovent (or I should say stopping the flovent) is the cause of the rash and that the use of the flovent supresses it. The pediatrician had not heard of this and subsequently referred us to a dermatologist. I know if will take several weeks to get an appointment with the dermatologist.
Avatar n tn A doctor MAY have prescribed you to take the ventolin before you take the flovent to ensure the flovent reached deep into the lungs but give them a call and double check. In that case - ventolin first to open the lungs and then flovent to reduce inflammation.
Avatar m tn As to your question about the dose of flovent, in the treatment of asthma, and whether you will “eventually need a higher dosage as I get older”, the answer is that the dose required may vary over time and is unpredictable. The general rule is that one should be given the lowest dose of an inhaled steroid, required to result in very good-excellent control of asthma. This will require a combined effort by you and your doctor to establish that dose.
Avatar f tn Question, do the Flovent and Advair have the fluticasone propionate ingredient in common? Tonight will be my 1st use of the Flovent. Concerned that I may have a mitral valve problem plus the emphysema. My symptoms of attack are severe shortness of breath, high heart rate, and the immediate need to urinate. Does anyone have anything similar to this? I have not been advised supplemental oxygen as of yet.
Avatar n tn Understand your predicament. Flovent inhaler contains steroids and is given to prevent an attack of asthma. Ventolin inhalers contain the active ingredient salbutamol, which is a type of medicine known as a short-acting beta 2 agonist. This is given when a person actually has an attack of Asthma, and is referred to as an ‘escape inhaler’. It would be good to have it with you, handy to use it when you need it. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance.
Avatar m tn I am taking Flovent, Spiriva and ProAir. Since I've been on the medication I've been Dxed with idiopathic neuropathy, cervical radiculopathy, carpel tunnel. I also have other entrapment symptoms, ulnar ,and I think in my legs as well. Sometimes I get a burst of nerve pain in my arms and legs a few minutes after using the Flovent and it also causes some tendon swelling. I've shown over and over that I have less pain on lower doses of meds.
Avatar f tn Does anyone get a racing heart from taking flovent, or has expienced dizzeness, short of breath and lots of headaches?
Avatar f tn She told me to skip every other day and taper back the dosage but she also told me I could not stop taking it completely because of my asthma. I am really anxious to be free of Flovent once and for all and looking into alternative asthma medicine. This discussion is related to Having multiple problems at once, all connected maybe?.
Avatar f tn I take 4 puffs 44mcg Flovent 2x day so could easily take less of that. Do you think it is safe for me to take the turmeric? My doctor seems open to alternative treatments.
Avatar m tn This year i completely forgot to start my meds, so i had a minor asthma attack. i I went to the doctor. He put me on flovent, my albuterol, also to keep taking my allergy pills, Zyrtec. So i started feeling better.. Im a 28 year old, im working out alot cause i know im a bit overweight. im a runner. And since that attack i havent been able to have a full workout. I lose my breath easily, my chest feels tight, i feel like yawning all the time to catch some air.
Avatar n tn I discontinued the use of Advair (which is basically a combination of Serevent and Flovent) because it almost killed me (choking). It also caused adrenal fatigue, was harming my eyes, and was subverting my immune system. In place of Advair I use a variety of natural anti-inflammatories and mucolytics. My health is much improved and I found that the severe bronchitis I had was in fact CAUSED by the Advair.
1754037 tn?1327886811 I am 18 weeks and have asthma, I have had it my whole life, I am one of those who was born with it and didn't grow out of it. I take my albuterol inhaler a couple times a day. My OB/GYN also put me on flovent cause the steriod I was on before I was pregnant hadn't been tested on pregnant women and she wanted to be safe. My OB said that is safe to use both the albuterol and my flovent, especially because it causes more damage when you deprive the baby of oxygen.
Avatar m tn m interested in hearing from anybody who has had similar symptoms, or a similar course of action before getting a diagnosis. I have never really heard of tinnitis or vertigo being symptoms of MS, and those are the main reasons I even started pursuing medical help to begin with. The doctors have ruled out some explanations (like the acoustic neuroma), but there are still other possibilities on the table (Meniere's disease, or even high blood pressure for example).
Avatar n tn It kind of sounds like a form of Action tremors, but I have to agree with mkh9.
Avatar n tn Flovent is not a rescue inhaler. Who told you that? Only Albuterol nebs or inhalers are rescue inhalers, Flovent is aka fluticasone, you can grow aspergillus with flovent and advair. Did you read the patient information that it can also cause resp infections as well as cataracts, over time? Have you changed your toothbrush, had dental cleanings or told your MD/ Have you been offered Mycelex lozenges or Diflucan?
Avatar m tn The onset of action ranges from 45 minutes - 1 ½ hours, and the duration of action is six hours. Diazepam carries a bi-phasic half-life of 20-50 hours (for Diazepam), and 30-200 hours (for Desmethyldiazepam). Valium is indicated for the long-term management of generalized anxiety and tension-anxiety. Tolerance will not develop to the anxiolytic property of Diazepam, although tolerance will develop to the sedative/hypnotic property.
Avatar m tn A partial µ-opioid receptor agonist, its mixed agonist/antagonist activity affords it a lower risk of dependence and abuse than full µ agonists like morphine. Meptazinol exhibits not only a short onset of action, but also a shorter duration of action relative to other opioids such as morphine, pentazocine, or buprenorphine.
Avatar m tn One of the newer suggestions is the use of orally ingested budesonide. You may want to check with your doctor.
