I have been prescribed Xoponex HFA and Flovent but I am afraid to take them because of the side effects that I experienced last time.
I have seen two doctors so far but I am not getting any better. Do you think that I should see another doctor? Could I have asthma even though my testing has been inconclusive? Are there any alternatives to the medications I have been prescribed that have milder side effects?
The cough cleared up for the most part, as did the wheeze, but the meds had serious side effects – I stopped the Levaquin after 8 doses, because it was making me depressed and exhausted, which I still am. I am also still coughing a bit (producing a little mucus), and feel short of breath, but my lung function is at 92% and I have optimal peak flow (475). I’ve cut back my meds to 220mg flovent twice a day, and albuterol when necessary.

I started having panic attacks and my bronchel tubes where getting hard to breath so i started back on Advair. I am going to get Flovent to replace it if i need it but i am really trying to get off all medications, eating better and living a
healthier life style!!!! I don't like all these scary painful side affects i will do what ever i have to, to stay away from Advair. GOD BLESS If anyone had any information about getting off and withdrawls it would be greatly appreciated!
Flovent is a corticosteroid with serious side effects Among them are osteoporosis, overgrowth of Candida albicans, adrenal problems, cataracts, and on and on.
In addition to Ventolin you can use natural anti-inflammatories. There are many - vitamin C, vitamin B6, mullein, marshmallow, boswellia, ginger, and on and on. I use a nebulized albuterol combination (Duoneb) as the only prescription. I no longer use inhaled steroids after developing serious problems.
I am on Plaquenil 400mg Metoprolol Tartrate 50mg BID, Proventil HFA 2puffs every 4 hours, Flovent Diskus 250mcg (started one week ago), Nasonex, Augmentin 875 BID. I have had no problems with my cardio selective Beta Blocker prior to catching this cold. My peak flows are still in the High Yellow Zone and I am maxing out on my rescue inhaler and I haven't been on the Flonase long enough to provide control. But I am not wheezing...just stuck in the yellow zone anywhere from 360-390...
I am NO doctor, simply a fellow asthma sufferer - but I definitely think the Flovent IS causing Cushing's. You actually are on DOUBLE the recommended dose of the Flovent - normally is it only used twice a day.
It's very important, both because of the high dose you've been on and the amount of time you've been on it, that you taper your dose of the Flovent slowly and do not stop it abruptly. Doing so could cause many major problems.
Many people have trouble with Foradil 12 mcg (formoterol fumarate), but I have used this long-lasting inhaled non-steroidal powder with no side effects whatsoever. It is much longer-acting than albuterol sulfate. And the effects are rapid.
As Tammy2009 stated, there are ocassional flare ups.

Hi, I have a daughter with EE, she was diagnosed 3 years ago, she is 9 now and she been on Singluar for the last 3 years which has helped a lot and there are no side effects (especially no agression). We are just starting to have problems again now and we are off to the Gastro again in a couple of weeks, but the Singluar was a great drug for her.
If you use your Flovent with a spacer, that will help to reduce any side effects you may have. However, I'm really quite surprised that you aren't on a long acting bronchodilator along with your inhaled steroid, it is more effective then combining two steroid inhalers together.
What sort of allergy symptoms are you having to your inhalers? Wheezing after taking it? Or developing hives?
Although it can cause nervousness and many other ill side effects, bad temper does not seem to be one of them.
The temper could stem from the asthma itself...because she is 6 she is still trying to find ways to express feelings, pain, etc.
It's possible that she's acting this way because she's feeling nervous from the medication or from the asthma itself...remember that it's a scary thing not being able to breath.
Severent (salmeterol) can have very serious side effects, death being the most notable. Flovent is a corticosteroid. Read the FDA warnings of February 2010.
Like you I have moderately severe COPD. I use Duoneb (similar to combivent) in a nebulizer and find it very helpful. I discontinued the use of Advair (which is basically a combination of Serevent and Flovent) because it almost killed me (choking). It also caused adrenal fatigue, was harming my eyes, and was subverting my immune system.
I heard that symbicort has less long term side effects but after over a year my FEV1 scores haven't improved at all on it
I had taken tylenol twice on top of my normal Flovent HFA and Albuterol HFA inhalers as needed. My whole family was ill, with 3/5 of us in the hospital for dehydration from vomiting so much. Three weeks back I had a Z pack for bacterial laryngitis and took tylenol then too. Those are the only medications I have taken. I do not drink, smoke, or do drugs.
In 2009 I had my gallbladder removed due to gallbladder disease. Other than Asthma I have been healthy.
