Common Questions and Answers about Flomax and renal stones

flomax

Avatar m tn My gynecologist did a pelvic ultrasound which was completely normal. She thought it could be kidney stones. I went to the er in pain and they did a renal and aortic ultrasound which were normal. I went to the er again a few days later still in pain and they did a ct scan. They told me I had several small stones in each kidney but they weren't the cause of my pain and they sent me home. I am at a complete loss! I continue to have these pains nonstop.
Avatar f tn In addition the therapy for renal stones depends on the size, the location and the kidney functions. Please consult your primary care physician who will do blood tests, x- rays and may ask for an ultrasonogram to find out the cause for stone formation. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Most 3mm UVJ stones pass without surgery, and Flomax and fluids are all you can do. If it has not passed, the treatment of choice would probably be ureteroscopy, an endoscopic procedure to break up and remove the stone.
Avatar f tn The treatment for kidney stones depends on their size and what they are made of and also if they are causing pain or obstructing the urinary tract. Small stones usually pass through the urinary tract without treatment. It is good advice to stay well hydrated as that should prevent the stones from getting any bigger or new ones from forming. For kidney pain you may take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen or naproxen .
656452 tn?1332783935 I've listed below my CT Scan results. Am on Flomax, an antibiotic and drinking a ton a water. Because I'm not in major discomfort, my Uro is giving it 2 weeks to see if it passes on its own.before a follow up imaging study. Was wondering what % of stones like mine pass on their own ? I've had other stones this size, but never have any gotten "stuck" like this.
Avatar f tn Both of my kidneys fill up with stones and very large ones while I am pregnant. I even had to have surgery and a renal stint places to keep my kidneys drained while I was pregnant. I took pain meds and hot hot showers to ease the pain, heating pad work ok too.
Avatar m tn constant pressure in the lower abdomen (pelvis and groin), and a constant urge to urinate that makes me practically home bound. On Flomax 0.4 mg. and hydration. I use a strainer, and thus far – no stone. 1. Is a 3 mm stone likely to pass on its own, if it has not passed already? 2. How long can it take for a stone to pass? 3. Anything I can do to expedite the process? 4. How much fluids should I consume? Please, advise...
895634 tn?1283989210 Update: Week 27 of 48. UND, sides well-comtroled. Previously seen questionable indeterminate liver lesion on MRI now determined to be NOT HCC due to stability over time and imaging features. Had surprise wake-up callyesterday 5 am...Left renal colic. Anybody aware of an association between treatment and kidney stones? I've had renal colic before, but this is by far the most painful bout. Hepatologist gave green light for Vicodin or Percocet, which are helping.
Avatar f tn I also started taking a medication called FloMax prescribed for me by the VA Urologist and it seems to be working great, in conjunction with the bottled water. There is a generic brand for FloMax that is cheaper too. I'd sure look into getting on a daily FloMax regiment and watching what kind of water I was drinking. Oh yeah, as a non vegiterian, I'd also suggest a great big steak too! May not help you with the kidney stone problem but it sure will make you feel better!! LOL!
Avatar f tn He agrees that l have definately passed a stone/stones and that the 8mm one is still there and in his oppinion he says it could hve been there for years andy may never move. I'm thinking well thats great for u but what if it does move,l can't get that out.

Avatar n tn On Saturday I went to the emergency room for treatment of my 1st Kidney stone, it is now Tuesday and it has not yet passed. This is not an issue, yet.. The issue I have is that while I had an orgasm on Tuesday, I did not ejaculate any sperm. What could be the problem?
187666 tn?1331173345 Hello, Most people with kidney stones will have blood in the urine .The urine may be pink or reddish, or the blood may be visible only with urine dipstick testing or microscopic examination of the urine. In people who do not pass kidney stone lithotripsy is the treatment of choice. It is indicated for stones 1 cm or less in the kidney and upper ureter. Contact your doctor if the haematuria is persisting. Persistent haematuria can lead to weakness, dizziness and hypotension.
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? There is no relation between varicocele and renal stones. Presence of renal stones at a younger age should warrant a complete work up for any metabolic disorders or dietary abnormalities which could promote the formation of stones in the urinary tract. Consult a urologist for further assistance. Best.
Avatar n tn I can only tell you what I've been told over the years I've dealt with kidney stones. Drink plenty of water daily and make sure that your urine stays clear in color when you urinate. When you think you're drinking enough water, then drink another 8 oz glass of it. Additionally, recently I've started taking Flomax (generic version) on a daily basis.
Avatar n tn ”)(1) Also, it is important to note that the characteristic and size of renal and ureteral stones are important in choosing lithotripsy as the management of choice. “… consider ESWL in most patients with renal calculi as first-line treatment, except in patients with renal calculi bigger than 30 mm in diameter.
Avatar f tn Back in july i posted about having several stones in my left kidney one of which was 8 mm and also one in that ureter and one in the right kidney. Well after over a month of flomax and massive amounts of water i had another x-ray which showed 9 stones in my left kidney the largest measuring 4 mm. Nothing in the ureters so i passed the 3 mm in the left and the one in the right it just took FOREVER lol. So I'm guessing that my 8 mm stone broke into more pieces?
Avatar f tn My daughter was diagnosed with polysistic kidney dease. She is now 3 years old and she has had 6-7 UTI and the last one was on 12/1/10 and she was in the hospital for 5 days she was recently diagnosed with hydronephrosis and her last renal ultrasound stated " there are focal echogenic structures bilaterally which are probably nonobstructive renal calculi" can someone explain to me what this means.
Avatar n tn Hi, Renal calculi can vary in size from as small as grains of sand to as large as a golf ball. Kidney stones typically leave the body by passage in the urine stream, and many stones are formed and passed without causing symptoms. If stones grow to sufficient size before passage—on the order of at least 2-3 millimeters—they can cause obstruction of the ureter.
Avatar m tn The urge frequency was sometimes unbearable!! Anyhow started on Flomax, and in just one day noticed the frequency (6-8x day to 4x) and urgency diminished. If no BPH...how is the Flomax working??? Thanks!
Avatar m tn ultrasound is diagnostic for both grading of prostrate enlargement and site and size of stones. Kidney stones usually cause obstruction if they are present in renal pelvis or ureter. In case of obstruction due to enlarged prostrate, medicines are initially given which relaxes smooth muscle of urethra and improves urinary flow, surgery is last resort. In case of ureter stones, type of treatment depends upon size of stone.
Avatar n tn s also had 7 kidney stones in the last 5 months. Could Lisinopril and his excessive sweating be a contributing factor?
3987674 tn?1348933041 I posted about a month ago asking about hashimotos disease. I still don't know if that is my diagnosis or not. Last time my tpo antibodies were checked they were greater than 600. My free t4 was 1.6 and tsh 20. 2 months before that free t4 was 6.8 and tsh 16. On 125mcg eltroxin daily. Last weekend I was rushed into a&e with renal colic and drs suspect kidney stones although through xray they were unable to see any. Kidney function is very good and there was blood in my urine.
Avatar n tn They sent me home with a script for Norco and Flomax and told me to get a follow up appt. with my Dr., drink plenty of fluids, and strain my urine. It was a week before my Dr. could see me, but I had the Norco and was able to stay on top of the pain. By the time I saw the doc, I hadn't had any pain for approx. 36 hrs. so I thought maybe I had passed it without knowing it. He did a urine test and it showed a small amount of blood +1. So he is thinking it did NOT pass yet.
Avatar f tn Thx for your response I have passed one of the stones in the hospital a few days ago still have another in my right ureter and a 7mm in my right kidney and several small stones 35 wks pg now and they are going to induce me in two weeks due to the kidney stones causing contractions and wanting me to have lithotripsy after her birth. I was told I wouldn't be able to pass the 7mm stone without intervention what are my chances with that they said its in the middle of the kidney.
