Avatar m tn I have practiced martial arts for the last 20 years, I have never been concerned about HIV or HCV in that environment.Unless you are a vampirous MORTAL COMBAT character who executed a flawless victory over KANE, and are ordered to FINISH HIM by biting off his head and dining on his blood, there is absolutely NO RISK to you. It doesn't transmit in that manner.
Avatar f tn send him outside SERIOUS martial arts training- will keep him interested in the protection of others and self defense- Get him in a karate school that teachers mottos that instill self discipline- fighting is DISCOURAGED- but a warrior mentality of protecting the innocent is encouraged. So this is not just physical, it teaches emotional and ethical integrity if you get in a good school---- so ask around- My son teaches Kung Fu.
Avatar f tn The doctor believes this attack was triggered by martial arts, since I had a test two days before the event, and recommended I quit due to the stress. I love martial arts, and would like to continue in them, so can you suggest anything I can talk to my doctor about? I am willing to get a wrist heart monitor to wear during training sessions, and would like to hear any other suggestions that will allow me to get back into training.

Avatar n tn Her dr may be able to reccomend a local psychologist who offers social skills training for ADHD children. There are also several books out there on the subject of helping ADHD children with social skills development. Another thing to try-- martial arts. Sounds crazy, I know, but the physical activity in martial arts actually ENCOURAGES physical control. The actions are repeated over and over-- until the child gets is right. Its sort of less stress in terms of sports.
700000 tn?1231287536 The only problem I have is that it is kind of a bummer in that without the flexibility in my wrist, some of my basketball and martial arts activities that I participate in currently are limited. I still live a normal life as an engineer and go to the gym 5 - 6 times per week and never feel any pain except on REALLY cold days. I recently landscaped my backyard with no problems. As far as flexibility, I was barely able to do a flat handed push up 3 years ago. I am 30 years old currently.

Avatar m tn m very conscience of what I eat, and consider myself very healthy. I snowboard religiously, cycle, and compete in martial arts (japanese fencing) tournaments. However, in 2000, I tore my ACL in my right knee and had ACL replacement surgery. In 2003 I again tore the ACL in my right knee, along with my meniscus cartilage. After my second surgery I never felt like I healed right. I had a lot of muscle atrophy and it never really got back to the muscle tone it once had.

Avatar n tn One other source "close to home" is your school. Check with your PE teacher or any coach for advice on correct lifting form and other activities you can do that won't damage your shoulders any further. I've seen so many people in the gym who hurt themselves like this by using too much weight too soon; and as you already mentioned, incorrect form. You get much more benefit from lifting less weight using correct form. Hopefully you haven't damaged yourself permanently.
Avatar n tn Also I have practical, personal and specialized career training/experience in a few fields like Policing and Martial Arts so I was wondering if you might consider the following. Avatar n tn I would see if there is a little dragons program in your area and if possible try for soft forms of martial arts like Tai Chi or Ju-jitsu. The teach flexibility, and have largely moves that can only be used if another person makes the first move. It cuts down on calls from angry principles regardin hitting and pushing.
Panda They are group x classes and are great cardio that focus on HIIT (high intensity interval training). I used to take martial arts when I was in high school, so Body Combat and Turbo Kickboxing are right up my alley, next to any type of dance. I've always had a bad right knee due to Osgood Schlatter. Now my left knee is starting to act up due to knee effusion. Since I am older (33 yrs old), my joints, especially my knees, take the worst beating.
Avatar f tn Keep doing what you were doing prior to getting pregnant I didn't slow down my workouts until about 30 or 32 weeks pregnant. .. as long as you feel OK and nothing hurts its fine. Avatar m tn I would try to stay away from sports like baseball right now, do things where he can be active all the time, such as swimming, martial arts, soccer, etc. I read that in a book that suggested that for some boys, the team sports where there is a lot of waiting is hard on boys. Avatar m tn Anyways, recently I have taken up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, Wrestling (Mixed Martial Arts). During training, we suffer some injuries.Usually that include injured hands, feet, split toes from the mat, mat burns and some rashes. Every now and then someone will end up bleeding, which they are usually removed from training until they quit bleeding and are bandaged up. My concerns are that the HIV/HEP C statuses are unknown. We are not required to submit a blood test prior to training.

Avatar m tn ll ask Lester who I know and is heavy weight title holder in martial arts and has a number of college wrestling trophies in ND. I doubt there is an erotic sensation involved...but you never know! :) I have experienced snycope a number of times with blood flow cut off in a wrestling match. Avatar f tn Other lower-body dynamic stretches include lateral leg swings, clockwork lunges and even specific martial arts kicks and footwork like the capoeira ginga. Upper-body dynamic stretches include arm swings, standing trunk twists, quadruped trunk twists and figure-eights with a light medicine ball. Always develop a steady breathing pattern and movement rhythm when you perform dynamic stretches. Choose the ones that move similarly to the movement patterns of the workout.
