Common Questions and Answers about Flexibility in runners

flexibility

Avatar f tn One way to work on the dynamic flexibility of the anterior shin is to subject it to exaggerated stress, in a controlled way, such as walking on the heels. If the muscle is regularly subject to an even greater dynamic, eccentric contraction than during the intended exercise, it will become more capable of handling the ordinary amount of stress.
Avatar n tn Hi i was running up to 10 weeks and had to give it up as was feeling the effects and found it hard to slow down. Used to do a lot of running. hard at first but u get used to it. hard to know whats the right thing to do but everybody knows their own body and limits!!
Avatar f tn I would like to run/walk a 5k. Any runners out there? I need a training schedule and ideas of how long to train. I walk 4 miles every day and currently walk a 13 minute mile. I am looking at a 5k 4 weeks from now and 8 weeks. I would like to do both, but will register for the later one if I need more time to train. I would like to step it up to some type of running, even if my time is quite slow.
Avatar f tn Have anybody experience a tight feeling in there low part of there stomach while running? It's not really a cramp but diff noticeable, because your stomach turns rock soild. I'm 18w 5ds and always been an active runner, and even ran during my last pegeancy up until 34 weeks...
Avatar m tn I still suffer from excruciating cramp in my feet. Over the last 2 years I have built up the muscles in my feet and have increased flexibility with daily stretches and exercises but still suffer from painful cramp in my arches and toes. It seems to occur when my toes are pointed for long periods of time as I tend to tense my feet quite hard.
Avatar m tn I have flexibility issues in almost all of my joints (Knees, elbow, wrist, ankle). Coincidentally, all the joints in the right side of my body are worse. I cannot squat as the back of my feet cannot touch my butt, my hand cannot touch my shoulder, cannot do pushup as wrist will hurt a lot. I have done xrays but doctor said my xrays are fine. Went through physiotherapy but joints flexibility does not improve no matter how much i stretched.
1530342 tn?1405016490 On Saturday, West Liberty-Salem (Ohio) High junior Meghan Vogel won a state title. Incredibly, that might not even be what she or anyone else remembers most about her day at the Ohio Division III track and field state meet, because she later committed one of the most selfless acts of the year on the track: She stopped running the 3,200-meter final to help along a foe who had collapsed just 20 feet from the finish line.
8411000 tn?1464556711 Just seen an article on Lyme in the newest Runner's World magazine. I haven't read it yet, just a FYI.
Avatar f tn As the presidential campaign unfolds, the differences in approaches to Medicare by President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney have taken center stage. But what is getting far less scrutiny: Romney's plans for Medicaid. He would convert the health care program for the poor, disabled and elderly into a block grant to the states and sharply reduce funding over time.
Avatar n tn The problem is likely due to blood not returning to heart and can be caused by inactivity of the arm muscles and this would lead to swelling. It is not usual that runners carry and squeeze a soft ball. This prevents fluids to be trapped in the tissues. There can be an electrolyte imbalance: When electrolytes are kept in balance it helps prevent swelling in the tissues. Thanks for your question.
Avatar f tn Hello, can you convert 7km?
15695260 tn?1549593113 A systematic review2 of 25 previously published papers encompassing more than 125,000 individuals revealed that the overall prevalence of hip and knee OA is 10.2% in non-runners, 3.5% in “recreational” runners and 13.3% in “competitive” runners (defined as professional, elite or ex-elite athletes). In other words, running (for the grand majority of us) is NOT shown to be causally related to onset of knee OA. Let’s say that again.
Avatar n tn My 80 year old mother had TKR surgery last week. She says when she stands or sits for any length of time, her foot hurts and she must lay down to relieve the pain. The doctor said this is typical because of blood rushing to the foot and recommended putting the support sock on. Has anyone else experienced this? Everyone is impressed with her flexibility and she's doing her exercises regularly but this pain has really gotten her concerned and regrets getting the surgery.
Avatar n tn I've been having the worst cramps in my left calf for the past 2 days :-( I've been eating bananas (long distance runners eat for potassium for muscle cramps) & drinking water water all day, still nothing has helped :-( Any suggestions?
730826 tn?1317943334 Then when I washed and dried them they shrunk and fell apart. I JUST got my new runners broken in, went to mow the law, wearing my steal toed shoes this time. When I came in from mowing the lawn, I found that my puppy decided to chew my runners. She never has chewed shoes before. Its just my luck. Hopefully they are still wearable as she just chewed the heal.
Avatar f tn I can move them around with my finger. It is right on my knee cap. I have had runners knee and had a few falls on my knee in my life. It does not hurt that bad unless I stand or walk for a while. Im assuming its loose bodies/cartilage but im not sure if you can have those by the surface of your skin above the kneecap? What do you think this is and should I see a doctor for treatment? I hope this makes sense!
Avatar m tn There was no need for any chemo or radiation since the tumor was well encapsulated. He engaged in all follow up tests and recent routine tests were all normal except his abdominal CT Scan showed some swelling in his bladder lining. All urine tests were normal - no signs of blood or infection...no sense of urgency to urinate or anything else unusual.
Avatar m tn It defiantly can not be a shin splint. This pain is just a few inches above the big toe knuckle. It's been a couple weeks with this pain in the foot. Walking barefoot in my house i feel no pain unless i press on the area then i feel a mass amount even with painkillers. If i have my cleats or runners on i feel pain all the time. I think im defiantly to young for falling arches...
Avatar f tn I tore my hamstring in three places two years ago. Lots of rehab later I am finally able to jog again. Up until now have done other cross training or walking activities, and lots of stetching, rolling of the hamstring. I started jogging three weeks agin, doing a Runners World training program of 5 weeks to a 5k. It is going fine, and while my leg is not 100% I have only minor pain, But....my foot on the leg with the tear gets pins and needles during the run and for a few hours later.
Avatar m tn He prescribed me with Glucosamine and taught me a basic of knees strenghthening physiotheraphy. In addition, he said its unnecessary for me to have a X-Ray screening and surgery as the symptom is mild. FYI, I am not active athlete and has an active routine activity. My question is: a. Can it be fully recovered? How long it will recover?? b. Any alternative medical ??? c, Wjhat are the do's and dont's? Please reply asap..
Avatar m tn Hi Brad, I agree with nickppatel re the leg activity in water polo. I played water polo for 6 years in my late teens to early twenties (then joined the military) and I have a full understanding on the amount of leg work required just to play water polo, let alone being the goalie.
Avatar m tn Do not apply anti-chaffing stick to the area or petroleum or oils, that will clog the area. Buy some runners shorts and wear that over your underwear (to avoid causing a yeast infection) and under your pants/skirt. These runners shorts will be SLICK and help your thighs to slide back and fourth, eliminating friction. This should help you heal in that area. I know its tempting but don't squeeze the irritations, let them resolve on their own.
