Avatar n tn s advice, you need to be in some sort of physical therapy to strenghten and improve flexibility of muscles related to your spine. Also, if your accident was fairly recent, you need to rest a lot, so not being able to get out of bed is your body trying to tell you something. You also need to be on some sort of medicine, either pain killers or antispasmodics, to help control the discomfort you are experiencing in your back, since the shots are not enough.
Avatar f tn The way to ease pain quicker is to eventually get into physical therapy for a few sessions, and then you keep up with the exercises they teach you to improve flexibility and strength in the operation area, thus preventing unnecessary discomfort. In the meantime, you could probably use some massages a few times a week to help those muscles, plus heat helps pain, too.
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor to get a referral to a spine specialist, and they suggested that I try physical therapy first. I have gone 4 times so far, and it is going well! The physical therapist said that besides a bulging disc I'm extremely hypermobile and weak in the neck with a very stiff thoracic region. She said the arm pain was definitely being caused by the lowest of my cervical discs, rather than a thoracic disc.
Avatar m tn MRI of the thoracic spine was performed using routine MRI protocol. Findings: The alignment of the thoracic spine is intact. No significant facet arthropathy. The cord is normal in caliber and signal.
Avatar f tn I have arthritis in my c5-c6 of my spine. I know they did x-rays of my cervical spine, thoracic spine. They were more concerned about my neck. I also had a MRI of the same area but it just showed mulitple levels of arthritis. So I try to keep active and do exercises.

I have an old injury in the thoracic spine, and I still do my exercises, which include pulling the shoulder blades together tightly, which are the ones that support the thoracic vertebrae, but I don't know what the exercises are for the cervical spine.
Avatar m tn Generally speaking, thoracic disc herniations are "treated" conservatively. This involves rest, and rehab-type exercises to strengthen the surrounding musculature. Medical physicians commonly prescribe pain-relieving meds as well. The difference between a disc "extrusion" and "protrusion" involves whether or not the outer part of the disc ruptures. If the material remains intact (bulging), it's a protrusion.

Avatar m tn Well, it means you have a bulging disc in your thoracic spine, which if you have pain between your shoulder blades, that's why. They send these reports out to patients, so they'll have a copy, but the doctor who ordered the scan is the one you need to have a followup appointment with, so he can explain things to you and perhaps offer some sort of treatment plan. You are not expected to understand what it says; it's just for your records.
Avatar f tn My neurosurgeon said to never have any kind of surgery on my thoracic spine but this is not much of a life, having to lay down most the time. Sitting in a chair for any length of time makes my stomach swell until I can't breathe, so I can only sit in a recliner. Should I try to find someplace to see if they can do anything for my thoracic spine?

MRI shows slightly buldging disc at L4-L5 and X-ray says L5 is a transitional vertebral body, whatever that means. MRI of thoracic shows Shmorl's nodes throughout the thoracic region and a X-ray I just had for another reason said there is mild anterior compression of T10 through T12 and that they are old.
