Avatar m tn I have been to a spinal PT and I temporarily felt better but not much. He focused only on my spine and said my movement was very limited for a 27 year old. I had an X-ray taken in December that my Internal Med. Physician initially said revealed dehydrated discs around the S1 area but later said they looked fine. I have been doing yoga 3-5 times a week the past 1.5 months and been to a stretch therapist 5-6 times the past three weeks but the problem persists.
Avatar n tn s advice, you need to be in some sort of physical therapy to strenghten and improve flexibility of muscles related to your spine. Also, if your accident was fairly recent, you need to rest a lot, so not being able to get out of bed is your body trying to tell you something. You also need to be on some sort of medicine, either pain killers or antispasmodics, to help control the discomfort you are experiencing in your back, since the shots are not enough.
Avatar f tn Take food items that strengthen your body, stretching and flexibility exercises are good for the purpose.
Avatar n tn The PT will then prescribe you a specific set of exercises, flexibility and strengthening for your condition. Other modalities that can be helpful to reduce your pain might be heat, ice, ultrasound, electrical stimulation and soft tissue work. Lumbar traction is also helpful in temporarily reducing the compression of the irritated nerves and therefore allowing a decrease in inflammation and pain.
Avatar f tn Hi, Presence of osteophytes (spurs) and narrowing of foraminae are indication of degenerative disorder of spine. Cervical spine disorders such as spondylosis and myelopathy are often related to osteophyte formation. Osteophytes in your neck leads to nerve irritation leading to mild to severe pain in related area supplied by those nerve coming from that area of spinal cord and difficulty in breathing or eating may also be possible.
Avatar f tn The way to ease pain quicker is to eventually get into physical therapy for a few sessions, and then you keep up with the exercises they teach you to improve flexibility and strength in the operation area, thus preventing unnecessary discomfort. In the meantime, you could probably use some massages a few times a week to help those muscles, plus heat helps pain, too.

667016 tn?1238891904 Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to this community & hurt my back Oct '06. I lifted a heavy bucket out of the sink & experienced excruciating pain in my lower back R hand side. Later that night I temporarily lost feeling in both legs, they were like dead weights - I had to crawl to bed. Next morning I was still in agonising pain & my spine was severly bent sideways - to the point where I looked deformed & felt like I was going to topple over.
Avatar m tn I need some exercises specifically for targeting the support structures in the area of L1/L2. Note that I am reasonably fit. Can swim a kilometer, and do so regularly. Can't run/jog because of my back, and also the knees are a bit worn from working as an electrician in a steel plant for 28 years. Have a few free weights, a combination machine, and stationary bike.
Avatar f tn I also know that physical therapy or even just simple careful stretching exercises at home will help in general, to perhaps increase blood circulation to the site of the lesion, keep up muscle strength so as to maybe take dead-weight pressure off the spine, and even free up some jammed-up nerves. But a doctor or PT specialist should supervise this sort of thing, because I myself tried some yoga at home one time, and, for a little while anyway, I made my back worse!
Avatar m tn Over the last 2 years I have built up the muscles in my feet and have increased flexibility with daily stretches and exercises but still suffer from painful cramp in my arches and toes. It seems to occur when my toes are pointed for long periods of time as I tend to tense my feet quite hard.
Avatar f tn t hunch or move my back around, my muscles tense up incredibly and i have a severe amount of pain. and i see the only solution is to bring back the natural flexibility of the spine, because this unnatural solution of surgery clearly hasn't been working.
Avatar f tn I have a problem with chronic pain in my left shin and have had bouts with plantar fastitis. Suddenly by shoe inserts to support my high arches feel awful. What are the right exercises and what else can I do?
611964 tn?1223767720 Has anyone been given back extension exercises for posterior disc bulge, and told not to worry about the stenosis, as that is always going to be there, but that you want to open the back of the spine to help slide the disc back in place with the extension exercise?? Also told to remove the pillow from under my stomach to help open the spine from the back. I am just so confused. Any thoughts from anyone would be appreciated. I have been told not to been forward at this time.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know of gentle exercises to get my stamina up? I have bad knees, and rheumatoid arthritis in my back so I'm not super flexible. Want to get extra weight off to help improve health...
Avatar m tn ve been diligent with my physical therapy and I have full flexibility in the leg. I can bend the leg at the knee and I can fully extend it. I can put weight on the leg and the doctor no longer requires me to wear the surgical boot. I still need to use a cane or crutches to get around. How long does it take for the tibia fracture to fully heal, and is there anything I can do to quicken the healing process on my own other than exercises and physical therapy? Thank you.
15502615 tn?1440995053 Your doctor may recommend that you meet with a physical therapist to provide you with specific exercises designed for your needs. Range-of-motion and stretching exercises can help maintain flexibility in your joints and preserve good posture. Proper sleep and walking positions and abdominal and back exercises can help maintain your upright posture. Most people with ankylosing spondylitis don't need surgery.
Avatar f tn I had minor spine surgery a week ago. I can't bend or twist. Any thoughts on what exercises that are low impact I can do?
