Common Questions and Answers about Flaxseed meal in pregnancy

flax-seed

Avatar f tn Try flaxseed meal. There is a brand called Bob's Red Mill that is already ground. If you live in an area that has a Trader Joe's store, that's a great place to get it. They sell the product cheaper than anyone else I know of. Other places will have it, too. I have seen it at grocery store chains in my own area. You can also find it at natural food stores or co-ops. I would try Trader Joes first, though. The beauty of flaxseed meal is that it is an actual food fiber.
Avatar n tn When my wife was preparing for an operation, her lab work showed her liver counts to be very high, near 200. The Dr. said, many things eaten could raise these levels. They wanted to know if she had eaten cereal with flaxseed and said flaxseed could have a large effect. I mention this so you'll know if it happens to you.
Avatar n tn To be effective, omega oil supplements usually have to be taken in distilled form (meaning gelcaps, not flaxseed). They are absorbed better if taken with a fatty meal.
Avatar f tn A couple of members have mentioned using activated charcoal for the really bad gas. Most gastro doctors tell people to use psyllium fiber, like Metamucil. I have had to use other fibers, like flaxseed meal. It's true that you need to build up slowly how much fiber you use, especially when your system is obviously sensitive already. Like sparkle40, I can't use the wheat bran either. My gastro doctor mentioned Metamucil and the like to me.
Avatar f tn I do alright using flaxseed meal rather than the psyllium based fibers that you mentioned. I can use just a little in water, like the fiber drinks, or just sprinkle a little on my food. It's an actual food product and it has nutritional benefits, like omega 3. I buy the Bob's Red Mill that is available at Trader Joe's, because it's more affordable. It's already ground flaxseed meal. I haven't heard of the Heather's Tummy Fibers, so I'll have to look for that.
Avatar f tn I can relate to some of this, because I have the same kind of IBS that you do. I don't know if I have FMS (I have the symptoms to indicate the strong possibility), but I do have CFS and MCS, so I can relate. We have a special problem, since we have many food sensitivities and allergies. I am sure you are already aware of the gluten intolerance and lactose intolerance issues, since they go with the territory. I was hospitalized with renal failure not too long ago myself.
689528 tn?1364135841 m here to tell you this is only a possibility if you over consume flaxseed. Like everything else in life too much of the flaxseed will be a bad idea, especially during pregnancy. Take caution on the intake of flaxseed and your pregnancy will not endure any complications. Flaxseed will actually be more beneficial to your pregnancy than harmful. The reason being is because flaxseed is a major source of omega 3 fatty acids, which is highly recommended during pregnancy and breast feeding.
Avatar m tn There is a gentler fiber that I have found to be less irritating to the gut. This is flaxseed meal. I read of a woman who said that she used it much like one uses Metamucil and drinks it down first thing in the morning and last thing at night and has done so for years. Taking psyllium fiber (the main ingredient in Metamucil) wasn't helpful for her bowel troubles, but the flaxseed meal was. I find it helpful for me, too, but I simply add it directly to whatever I'm eating.
163322 tn?1458676408 Nut butters are great too such as almond butter. I make my own in a food processor. Almonds in addition are a good source of Vit E , Calcium several minerals and fiber. It is also easy to spread and just yummy when lightly toasted.

I am a 49yr old female so I feel I need those for the bones, teeth plus I live in the san joaquin valley in california and currently its in the 100's so need the potassium. the biotin is for my hair and scalp. I was taking a liquid multi but I always forget to take it because it sits in the fridge and not with the rest of my pills. I difenitely (cant spell) rely on various sources. and will look at all sites.
1129232 tn?1360800358 In fact, flaxseed like your pre-natal omega oils help develop eye tissue as well as neural and brain tissues. These oils are MOST important in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy and should already be in the mother's system before conception to best be transferred. Make sure they are high quality vitamins and GOOD LUCK!
Avatar m tn m sure you and your mother will see some improvement in your IBS symptoms by using flaxseed meal instead of psyllium fiber. Psyllium fiber is known to be harsh and irritating to the gut. Whereas flaxseed meal is soothing and calming to the gut. I add it directly to my food. I find that it has a pleasant nutty kind of flavor, which is great, since I do miss the taste of nuts, since I've developed nut allergies.
Avatar m tn Loaded with alpha-linolenic acid, an essential fatty acid that helps reduce inflammation, flaxseed has been used for centuries for medicinal and health reasons. Gandhi proclaimed, "Wherever flaxseed becomes a regular food item among the people, there will be better health." The seed itself has terrific nutritional value, very usable protein, tremendous fatty acids, and minerals like magnesium, potassium, and zinc. Additionally, they're a great source of fiber.
Avatar n tn Coffee helps me go, sometimes orange juice too.
408496 tn?1269603350 I have heard that RLS is common in pregnancy and that if you have it pregnancy , that you are more than likely to have it as you age. My mom had this too. Anyone else experience this? What did you do/are you doing for the pain? I will not take any medicine for it, just wanting tips such as heating pad and such. Thanks!
1282285 tn?1271424395 To God be the glory! There is medicine that can help with arthritis pain. I take prescribed ibuprofen myself for my jaw arthritis. However, anything, like celebrex I've read is even worse, can affect your stomach that is in that NSAID category. I think I remember maybe it was relafen they said wasn't as bad for the stomach but I think that drug gave me a headache.
Avatar m tn Vitamin D liquid (have taken it in the past but had forgotten to take it daily), B12 (probably took too much, as I took 2,000mcg once for 4 days in a row, started eating 1 tablespoon of flaxseed meal in the morning (used to eat this all the time)...I also started seeing a PT for my plantar fasciitis. I stopped taking my probiotics yesterday because I thought maybe they were contributing to the problem? Who knows. Yesterday, I also began eating cultured coconut yogurt again.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if Flax oil is contraindicated while treating Hep. C? Seems like an odd question, but I seem to remember scanning some info. awhile back regarding this question. I am interested in using it for another medical issue, but don't want to do anything that may hurt the effectiveness of the drugs bashing my virus.
Avatar f tn The dark chocolate is a good source of magnesium. I take flaxseed oil capsules 1000 mg twice a day. I don't take it with the evening meal, however, or it gives me dreams. I know yams are something my mom used to fix us for pms/period symptoms. Pumpkin seeds I was told is a good source of those omega 3 fatty acids, which is good for inflammation and mood.
Avatar f tn I heard flaxseed is not recommended during pregnancy... take mirilax. A cap full in any type of drink. It softens your stool so it's not a laxative bit it helps!
Avatar f tn I use the Oregon Grape with each meal according to the directions on the label. I use one cascara sagrada at night to prevent constipation, so I don't have to take so much MiraLax because I feel the same way about pharmaceuticals as you do. Another good thing to do is take dietary fiber everyday. I have been using flaxseed meal and inulin fiber for dietary fiber, since I'm intolerant to psyllium fiber, such as Metamucil. Psyllium fiber irritates my GERD.
Avatar n tn I eat the same breakfast, lunch and dinner, nothing in that area has changed, but the lightheadness seem to be lasting longer by 10 mintues. First it ws for 45 min, now its seem to be getting longer. Any thoughts: Women Age 54 Starting Menopause Do not smoke Thanks Colleen This discussion is related to Dizziness Everyday Same Time Each Day.
Avatar m tn Well the boil in the bag says 10 minutes. Well I boil it for about 20 minutes and then leave it in the pot covered for another 40 minutes soaking up even more water. It looses most of it's taste but swells up with water. It gets really mushy like over cooked pasta but ya know what. That water that gets soaked up stays there through my whole digestion process. I eat rice every day and my stomach feels better for it.
