flax-seed

Avatar f tn Is the "flaxseed meal" you speak of come already ground up? I have read that flaxseed does no good unless it's ground up.
390388 tn?1279636213 Can you substitute a meal drink or food bar type of thing for a meal? I'm having to eat 3 times a day now in which for me is very hard. If so which ones? Is there anything like that on the market for diabetes? Just curious.
Avatar m tn There is a gentler fiber that I have found to be less irritating to the gut. This is flaxseed meal. I read of a woman who said that she used it much like one uses Metamucil and drinks it down first thing in the morning and last thing at night and has done so for years. Taking psyllium fiber (the main ingredient in Metamucil) wasn't helpful for her bowel troubles, but the flaxseed meal was. I find it helpful for me, too, but I simply add it directly to whatever I'm eating.
Avatar f tn Maybe you could add a serving of yogurt and a couple tbsp high fiber cereal or some berries? Have you tried a scrambled egg with spinach, tomatoes, onion, mushrooms, sweet peppers, etc? Or even a hard boiled egg with a slice of whole grain toast and serving of yogurt? Your nuts and fruit for lunch isn't enough, unless you're eating a lot of it; in which case, while nuts are very good for you, they also contain a lot of fat, so amounts need to be limited.
Avatar n tn When my wife was preparing for an operation, her lab work showed her liver counts to be very high, near 200. The Dr. said, many things eaten could raise these levels. They wanted to know if she had eaten cereal with flaxseed and said flaxseed could have a large effect. I mention this so you'll know if it happens to you.
Avatar n tn I buy the liquid gels and also grind whole flaxseed and mix it into a healthy smoothie drink. (Obviously, the flaxseed is to be taken orally--never directly to the eye!
Avatar f tn A couple of members have mentioned using activated charcoal for the really bad gas. Most gastro doctors tell people to use psyllium fiber, like Metamucil. I have had to use other fibers, like flaxseed meal. It's true that you need to build up slowly how much fiber you use, especially when your system is obviously sensitive already. Like sparkle40, I can't use the wheat bran either. My gastro doctor mentioned Metamucil and the like to me.
974298 tn?1324833193 um I am not sure about the flaxseed... I have no info on it!!! but it won't hurt just to try it for one cycle and see how you do!!!
Avatar f tn Vitamin E is found in all whole grain sources, wheat germ; and omega 3 are in nuts, fish, teas, flaxseed, and egg to name a few. Plus you get the added benefit of the fiber.
Avatar f tn I do alright using flaxseed meal rather than the psyllium based fibers that you mentioned. I can use just a little in water, like the fiber drinks, or just sprinkle a little on my food. It's an actual food product and it has nutritional benefits, like omega 3. I buy the Bob's Red Mill that is available at Trader Joe's, because it's more affordable. It's already ground flaxseed meal. I haven't heard of the Heather's Tummy Fibers, so I'll have to look for that.
Avatar f tn I can relate to some of this, because I have the same kind of IBS that you do. I don't know if I have FMS (I have the symptoms to indicate the strong possibility), but I do have CFS and MCS, so I can relate. We have a special problem, since we have many food sensitivities and allergies. I am sure you are already aware of the gluten intolerance and lactose intolerance issues, since they go with the territory. I was hospitalized with renal failure not too long ago myself.
Avatar n tn After cooking, I stir in 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed meal, one teaspoon of maple syrup and one teaspoon of peanut butter. Delicious! JoAnne My allergies are off the chart so healthy meals are hard. No fruit other than citrus, blueberries and blackberries, no tree nuts, no shellfish, no soy . . . It is difficult. Breakfast usually is organic yogurt, I put steel cut oats on the night before so they are somewhat chewy. At times I put blueberries or blackberries in too.
Avatar f tn I hope it's normal bcuz Im in the same boat, but only 24weeks. I feel like I eat a meal & soon as I take my last bite Im looking for my next meal. I hve a crazy pattern of sleep bcuz I need 2 wake up & feed my belly. I thnk ur fine!
Avatar f tn Here's one I found that tastes great if you like egg salad! Greek yogurt egg salad 1c. Greek Yogurt 4 large eggs .5-1 tsp dill weed (depending on taste preference) Salt/pepper to taste Whole wheat wrap or lettuce wrap Boil, chop and peel all of the eggs. Mix together all ingredients in a bowl and add dill weed and salt and pepper according to taste preference. Avatar n tn A fiber that I found better than psyllium, which is actually simply too irritating for the stomach and the bowels of just about everyone I know, is simply flaxseed meal. A healthy amount of fiber is supposed to help balance out the colon, regardless of which extreme symptom a person experiences. When you see your gasto, you may be prescribed an anti-spasmodic medication. My doctor has me using the generic form of Bentyl. I hate it, because it sedates me too much.
Avatar m tn Something I have found very helpful for my IBS is the use of flaxseed meal as my fiber supplement. I noticed that a couple of other people have been mentioning this as well. If you've been using psyllium fiber, I suggest switching to flaxseed meal. I'm sure you and your mother will see some improvement in your IBS symptoms by using flaxseed meal instead of psyllium fiber. Psyllium fiber is known to be harsh and irritating to the gut.
Avatar f tn I have stopped all junk food for last two weeks and its lack of time for me to exercise.I have started taking 1tsp of flaxseed and pinch of cinnamon starting from tomorrow. Heard they would help in my insulin resistance. Does any one have any idea of flaxseed and cinnamon good for reducing weight and getting periods regularly being in pcos ? just want to confirm I am on right track. Any other natural food that i take to effectively reduce weight?
1269982 tn?1271173219 try to substitute things like bacon for turkey bacon for example...on the omelets, make 2 egg yellows and 2 egg white..this will cut a lot f calloeries and you will feell very full.proteins make you feel full.everytime you eat a sandwich, take off 1 of the bread.bun.i also buy for me the 45 cal whead bread..you can find on any albertsons.a good shake is the pure protei, it has no carbs...be careful with the protrin bars, they are fullllll of calories...sodas, only the diet ones.
Avatar m tn Vitamin D liquid (have taken it in the past but had forgotten to take it daily), B12 (probably took too much, as I took 2,000mcg once for 4 days in a row, started eating 1 tablespoon of flaxseed meal in the morning (used to eat this all the time)...I also started seeing a PT for my plantar fasciitis. I stopped taking my probiotics yesterday because I thought maybe they were contributing to the problem? Who knows. Yesterday, I also began eating cultured coconut yogurt again.
Avatar f tn I used flax seed meal for helping me keep my weight up, putting it into smoothies, oatmeal, etc. It makes wonderful cornbread. Check out this post: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn The dark chocolate is a good source of magnesium. I take flaxseed oil capsules 1000 mg twice a day. I don't take it with the evening meal, however, or it gives me dreams. I know yams are something my mom used to fix us for pms/period symptoms. Pumpkin seeds I was told is a good source of those omega 3 fatty acids, which is good for inflammation and mood.
173939 tn?1333217850 The work place is my biggest challenge. Workers skip lunch breaks, then make microwave popcorn in the afternoon to substitute for a meal. Each company addresses my allergy differently. Most ban popcorn my the floor or building I work in. Which seems to be the best solution because the air filtration systems in typical offices cannot circulate air fast enough to keep the corn allergens (and popcorn smell) from wafting through the entire work area.
Avatar f tn I use the Oregon Grape with each meal according to the directions on the label. I use one cascara sagrada at night to prevent constipation, so I don't have to take so much MiraLax because I feel the same way about pharmaceuticals as you do. Another good thing to do is take dietary fiber everyday. I have been using flaxseed meal and inulin fiber for dietary fiber, since I'm intolerant to psyllium fiber, such as Metamucil. Psyllium fiber irritates my GERD.
