Avatar n tn As far as I know, studies about flax seed and cancer are still in their infancy stage. The cancer more frequently associated with this is prostate cancer. I'm quoting this text from the american cancer society website: http://www.cancer.org/docroot/NWS/content/NWS_1_1x_Flaxseed_Ginseng_Show_Promise_for_Cancer_Patients.

Avatar m tn It makes them tons worse. I take a tsp. of flax seed each day and blend them in a smoothie and that doesn't seem to bother me. What brand of plant based omega 3 do you use? After my bad experiences with krill oil, I'm kind of scared to take anything but whole flax seeds.
213398 tn?1202670474 The scientist attribute the lack of Alzhiemers to the Tumeric. Flax Seed Oil (Omega 3) is GREAT for everyone....(I only use organic products) and try to get it in my food sources first ...fresh salmon, Flax seed...but also take an organic supplement. My doctor highly recomends it, but again I was taking it before I was Dx. I just started mixing Acai juice in my fruit drinks/ on ocassion(mainly because it is so expensive) never heard of any negative effects...again I am new to this one....
163322 tn?1458676408 Actually, I don't use flax seed oil. I use flax seed meal, mixing it into granola, oatmeal, smoothies, etc. Its great for making corn bread. But I'm not on triple therapy either. And I love coconut anything!

612551 tn?1450022175 Hi Jerry. There are some benefits of flaxseed, as the oils are similar to fish oils but without the smell. However, there is a higher ratio of omega-6 to omega-3, which isn't too good. It's a complicated process, but effectively dogs find it hard to convert alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) to the more active non-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, so although some omega-6 is okay (in fact, some say it's essential), it's the ratio between omega-3 and omega-6 that's important.
Avatar n tn i just started treatment with telaprevir, and have used flax seed oil for the fat on one dose and will use it again. the problem with flax seed oil is it goes rancid really fast. so if you are going to use it make sure you buy from a very reliable source that refrigerates the oil and check the date. yesterday i bought an 8 ounce bottle of barlean's flax oil that was pressed on 9/15/10 with an expiration of 3/15/11. so make sure it is supper fresh. rancid oil will cause liver damage.
Avatar f tn I use a stabalized ground flax seed product to provide about 2/3 of my daily Omega-3 and a high quality fish oil capsule for the final third. The flax adds a pleasant nutty flavor to the small portion of yogurt I mix it with. I use products with (if I remember right) a 6:1 ratio of Omega-3:Omega-6. I get plenty of O-sixes from my diet (they are easy for most of us) but don't eat nearly enough foods rich in O-threes to keep a good ratio going.
671251 tn?1236116671 It was very cheap and I made salmon cakes which were very good and quick to make. It also said that flax seed and flax seed oil are high in Omega 3 fatty acids without the worry of mercury. Flax seed flour is good to add to foods in place of some of the flour. It has to be ground or crushed to be used by our bodies. Walnuts are another good source too. I found a good recipe for salmon cakes in Joy of Cooking. Here is the recipe I used.
Avatar f tn I have tried different brands of fish oil on different occassions as well as my husband. I wished I could take it for the health benefits; but, in our case, it causes digestive upset such as bloating and gas. So, I've replaced fish oil with flax seed oil and we do not experience the gas and bloating we had with fish oil. In my case, I feel much better on flax seed oil, emotionally as well as physically.
Avatar n tn It is a combination of concentrated fish oil and GLA plus sesame and curcumin, vitamin a and a few other things, i was using flax seed oil prior to this without much relief. So those of you not getting relief with flax seed for your dry eyes try fortifeye dry eye therapy.

2046312 tn?1360379600 Blend flax seed in coffee blender, mix with peanut or almond butter, and eat on an apple with a glass of milk. This was all I could stomach that early.
Avatar n tn My husband has severe dry eyes, and has started taking omega 3 and flax seed oil. It is working very well, but his dose (after gradual increase to a point of benefit) is more than recommended. Can he overdose on 3 times the normal dose of purified omega 3 fish oil..the brand he takes is Health from the Sea PFO pure fish oil liquid. He takes twice the dose of the flax seed oil (same brand name).

Avatar m tn While metamucil worked during treatment for me, I think it is disgusting to drink (my opinion), so as soon as treatment ended I went right back to flax seed. I don't really know why I used Metamucil and not flax seed during treatment, but I am glad to use it now...
Avatar n tn Hello -- I have been trying to find out whether consuming flax seed would interfere with the efficacy of the taxol / herceptin treatments that I am receiving for my breast cancer. I understand from a study done at the University of Toronto that flax seed may help to eliminate breast cancer. However, I would not want to consume anything that would interfere with my regular medical treatment. The cancer is in the left side of my lymph system. It is estrogen-receptor and HER-2 positive.

Avatar n tn A 100 percent organic moisturizer and revitalizer can be made by mixing pure Camellia seed oil with a few other oils to create a salve. Camellia seed oil is derived by pressing the seeds of camillia flowers. Mix 1 teaspoon Camellia seed oil, 1 teaspoon Evening Primrose Oil, one quarter teaspoon Vitamin E oil and 3 drops lavender essential oil in a small bottle. Blend by shaking before use. Massage a few drops onto thin skin daily to help build it up and thicken. Keep refrigerated once blended.
Avatar f tn The reason is that flax seed, like soy or even more so, seems to have an effect on estrogen and hormones and might interfere with your body during pregnancy. Ask your doctor. One study on this was: Brooks JD, Ward WE, Lewis JE, et al. Supplementation with flaxseed alters estrogen metabolism in postmenopausal women to a greater extent than does supplementation with an equal amount of soy. Am J Clin Nutr 2004;Feb, 79(2):318-325.
